Raging Bull (1980)

This movie is given to you when you first watch it My feelings are not good, probably my understanding is not enough. Now after watching it the second time, I still feel the same, and it seems that I haven't improved much. Or, this film is really not my type.

The film tells the twenty years of boxer Jake LaMotta's life. Jake LaMotta is a very capable boxer. He often dominates the boxing ring, but rarely wins matches. Because the game is controlled by Italian gangsters, Jake LaMotta never bows to them. Jake LaMotta had a wife, but he fell in love with the young girl from the neighbor's house. Through his hard work, Jake LaMotta won the girl's heart. In the following years, Jake LaMotta won many victories, but never got the chance to challenge the boxing champion. It was because of the Italian gangsters. In a few years, Jake LaMotta married a young girl and had children. His younger brother also married and had children like him. One day, because of her loneliness, Jake LaMotta’s wife was discovered by his younger brother while having fun with gangster men in a bar, causing his younger brother to fight gangster men. After the matter was settled, Jake LaMotta agreed to make a deal with the gang-releasing water in a game. With this transaction, Jake LaMotta got the coveted opportunity to challenge the boxing champion, and he was successful and became the new boxing champion. After the victory, Jake LaMotta discovered that his younger brother was fighting with gangster men for his wife, and suspected that the two of them had an improper relationship. These suspicions caused Jake LaMotta to fight his brother. Their brother completely turned his face, and his brother left him. Over the next few years, Jake LaMotta won several matches and said goodbye to boxing after losing the title of champion. After leaving boxing, Jake LaMotta opened a hotel. But it didn't last long, and Jake LaMotta was arrested for taking in minors. After he was released from prison, he could only act as a master of ceremonies in a tavern. After a chance encounter with the younger brother, they finally reconcile as before and the movie is over.

This film is a biographical film about the twenty-year life of boxing champion Jake LaMotta. Through the film, you can understand his glory and downfall, success and failure. However, this is not an attractive movie. The main character of the movie is the American middleweight boxing champion in the 1940s, and most of the content of the movie is related to violence, madness, and suspicion. These are too far away for me as an ordinary person living in China. My point is that only movies that resonate with the audience are good movies. Such a biographical film about people who have nothing to do with my own age and life makes me uninterested.

The film is called a masterpiece or a classic because most of the reasons have nothing to do with the plot, but Martin Scorsese's great shooting techniques and the film's religious themes. There are a lot of specific analysis on film shooting skills on the Internet, but in my opinion, it is a bit over-interpreted. If a picture can express so many meanings, isn't the director a god? As for the religious theme, you can find it from the "Bible" paragraphs typed in the ending credits. It's just that, for me who don't believe in any religion, I don't understand it. In addition, the process of destruction and redemption discussed in the film is a topic that many films often involve. This film is not the only one. There is no need to deify the ups and downs of Jake LaMotta's life too much. In short, as a movie layman, I don't feel how excellent and unique the movie is. I can only say: Let people who like this movie like it, I don't like it!

Although the movie feels mediocre, the director's use of shots and editing still impresses me. The picture of the whole movie gives people only one feeling-reality. The bloody blood and blood donations on the boxing ring are full of blood, Jake LaMotta's brother is fighting in the bar, Jake LaMotta and his brother are arguing, quarreling, and fighting. These scenes are a bit cruel, as if they were happening right in front of their eyes. Through the use of these shots and skilled editing skills, the director gave the film a sense of documentary reality. The documentary filming method also makes this biographical film more convincing, and it also makes this film unique in biographical films.

There is another part of the movie that makes me very interesting, that is, the scene where Jake LaMotta seduce his second wife to go to bed. From playing ball to leading into the house, from the kitchen to the bedroom, from the waist to the kiss to the bed, this step by step action can be called a classic. This is a classic step for an American man to seduce a woman into bed, and it can be used as a textbook. Of course, all this must be done with the acquiescence of the woman.

The most notable thing about this film is the performance of the actors. The actor Robert De Niro's performance in this film is too horrible. The violent, suspicious, simple-minded, and irritable character is very comprehensive. He is already the incarnation of Jake LaMotta and is completely different from Robert De Niro in other movies. . Robert De Niro's most admirable thing in this film is the increase or decrease in weight, which is ruining his own body, which can only be described by the word "dedication". Joe Pesci's performance in this film is not inferior to Robert De Niro. The expressions in his eyes, expressions, movements and arguments with Robert De Niro are all perfectly deduced. He is like Robert De Niro's brother, very real and achievable. letter. Cathy Moriarty is a big beauty in this film, but the acting is equally good, not a vase-like character. Although the performance is not as brilliant as the first two, but it also played this tragic woman.

This film is a recognized classic movie, but I don't like it. Throughout the movie, all I felt was violence and anger, and the process of a boxer from success to failure, nothing else. If you don't like it, you don't like it. You can't say that you like it against your will, but you have to dare to say "no" to the classics. This is my criterion for watching movies. Let those who like it like to go!
