After watching it twice, the key plot of the second time was compared with English subtitles. The director of the film has precise ideas and very skillful expressions, without obvious logical errors. It's a great masterpiece. Many people are arguing about how many times and spaces exist in the film. In my opinion, there are three, of which the first time and space has never appeared directly in the film. Only part of the second space-time appears (through observation from the third space-time), and only the third space-time is relatively complete. So if you don't look carefully, you will get confused. But think about it carefully, there are many plots in the three time-spaces that are repeated, if you can kill them all. Isn't it as tasteless as a running account? And the director's omission of the first time and space is a slight increase in suspense. The following is my understanding, let’s discuss it:
First, the complex that happened before the film...
Doug’s colleague encountered the murderer and was killed by the murderer by chance. The murderer killed the heroine again in order to change the car. Then the murderer Successfully installed a bomb and killed more than 500 people.
Doug came to the scene and found that the heroine was not killed on the ferry. He came to the heroine's home to investigate. Hearing the messages of her father and her friends, there was no blood bandage at the scene. After Doug learned that the time machine could see and influence the past, he observed the heroine's home through the time machine. In order to prevent the tragedy from happening, (very likely) a note was sent to the past self (the reason will be explained later), which led to the death of the colleague and the murderer's motivation to change the car.
Doug decided to go back in time through the time machine. He drove the ambulance to rescue the heroine and returned to the heroine's home. In order to prevent the rescue from being unsuccessful, he left a reminder for the future self: u can save her. Implying that he could go back to the past and change his destiny. Then he cleaned up the wound, was questioned by the heroine, and exchanged trust by calling and predicting the heroine’s friends’ messages. At the same time, the heroine left in the message: Isn’t this a joke? And "someone is here now, it's inconvenient" to record the phone call. For the safety of the heroine, he left the heroine at home (because the heroine's body was found near the mouth again), and went to the ferry to escape the danger alone. At the end, the heroine was kidnapped and killed by the murderer again at home, and the body was disguised. And Doug was killed unsuccessfully in disarming the bomb.
At this point the video begins:
There was an explosion and the female body was found. Due to the wrong time of the murder, she came to the heroine's home to investigate, found blood stains, and listened to the phone message. I heard the heroine record in a friend's message: You are not joking and waiting, then a blank recording, and then her father recording: This shows that the heroine has made a phone call in Zhong. Learn about the existence of the time machine. I received a complaint from a colleague that he left a lot of fingerprints at the heroine's house without gloves. In fact, the director is suggesting to the audience that Doug once went back (because it was a close-up of the director giving the glove to Doug to investigate in the room). Then a note was issued through a machine, which led to the death of a colleague. Use a visual extender to chase to the scene and find an ambulance and explosion marks. In fact, all of this was caused by the Doug of Time and Space last time. The murderer was caught and interrogated through facial recognition. The murderer reported the case and pointed out the development of the case after he was about to cut off the fingers of the heroine. Doug knows all about it: in fact, these are the experiences of Doug (deceased) who passed back to him. And Doug at the interrogation was naturally at a loss.
Doug decided to shuttle to save the disaster. When he drove the ambulance, he already felt that he had come back (because he had seen the ambulance that was blown up). Rescue the heroine just like the last time you shuttled. Come to the heroine's house. Checking his identity, recording the phone call... When he saw that the heroine was dressed in the same clothes as she was killed in the future, he was even more sure that he had come back, otherwise the heroine would not have the opportunity to go home and change clothes. So, from the shuttle to the present (09:44), things have not changed in any way (compared to the previous shuttle). It can be predicted that the ensuing outcome must be the same failure as the last time (will enter an endless loop). So Doug changed his original (instinctive) idea: the safest idea to keep the heroine at home (so I think Doug probably also sent a note to himself before the shuttle last time: because people are in the same The judgments made under the circumstances should be the same). He looked at the time again, remembering the blank recording he heard in the future time and space. It is even more certain that he must have left the heroine at home last time and caused her to be killed. So take it with me...
the relationship of three time and space:
The first time and space is naturally the original arrangement of fate. Because of the tributary produced by Doug's investment in this super cobblestone, this turning point is to transmit the note (if you agree with my inference). From then on, a second space-time parallel to the first space-time came into being. The ending of the second time and space is roughly the same as that of the first time and space. The difference is that first, the death of Doug’s partner has changed from accidental to inevitable (emphasized in the film), and the second is the life of Doug who shuttles back (the reason is explained below). Therefore, it makes sense for the director to omit the first time and space, which increases the suspense and reduces repetition and redundancy.
The third space-time is branched from the second space-time, and the diversion point is whether to keep the heroine at home. The difference between the result and Second Space-Time is that more than 500 people (including the heroine) were rescued. The same is that Doug and his partner still died.
Represented by the graph line: The
first time and space: plan an explosion >>>> Even kill Doug's partner >>>> Kill the heroine >>>> Kill 500 people The
second time and space: plan an explosion >>>>Definitely kill Doug's partner >>>>Kill the heroine>>>>Blow up 500 people in the
third time and space: plan an explosion>>>>Doug's partner must be killed >>>>Save the heroine>>>>
500 people rescued Why three people die (second or third)
1 heroine (twice, the first and second time and space)
in space and time does not change the original, the heroine must be killed in advance, otherwise unable to progress of the investigation of the case Let Doug search her home. The death of Doug's partner may be on the ferry or before. The reason for the heroine's murder was that the murderer wanted to change the car. There are many possible motives for the murderer to change cars. If it weren't for accidentally discovered by a Doug colleague. The whole story will be explained as: Doug saves everyone except his partner through several shuttles of the time machine. The inevitability of his partner's death was motivated by his passing of notes. This is too cruel. So I would rather believe that his partner was not killed on the ferry. It was killed in advance by the murderer. And Doug's note only turned the accidental encounter between his partner and the murderer into an inevitable encounter. This is what I wanted to express many times in the film, and it didn't change the result, but only promoted its accelerated development.
2 Doug partner (three times)
However, Doug eventually changed the result, saving more than 500 lives. Isn't this contradictory again? actually not. Doug changes the result rather than the cause. The reason why he can change the result or know that he can go back to the past is because the heroine was killed early. The heroine was killed because the murderer wanted to change the car. So in my opinion, the reason why Doug could not save his partner was because the death of his partner was the cause of the entire shuttle event. You can travel through time and space to change the result. But you have no way to change the reason for traveling through time and space. At least it cannot be changed before the start of the film and the two shuttles in the film. Unless Doug gets the chance to make a third shuttle, and the purpose of the shuttle is to save his partner.
3 Doug (twice)
The death of Doug (shuttle back, regardless of whether the rescue is successful or not) has nothing to do with the logic of the film, but depends on whether it is reasonable. Do not consider the scientific theory and basis. We can simply say that everything that cannot be proved impossible is possible. We do feel familiar to some people in our daily lives. And sometimes I have a hunch about something happening. The theory or hypothesis of traveling through time and space or parallel time and space can make sense to these. But it seems that no one has ever seen another self (whether alive or not), so there is only one dead end for Doug and his body is unrecognizable (so miserable!). This is actually mentioned in the film ( If Doug received a phone call from the coroner to examine his body four days ago, the universe might explode, etc., in fact, it was alluding to Doug's fate to shuttle back).
