The first is casting and role shaping. A handsome man and a beautiful woman must be the protagonist. If the appearance is not good, it must be compensated by personality. For example, in "The Ugly Truth", Gerard Butler is obviously the one with poor appearance, severely exceeded muscles and fat face, so only Relying on the uninhibited appearance but delicate and sensual role modeling to attract the audience. In THE PROPOSAL, the weaker appearance is obviously the heroine Sandra Bullock, so the screenwriter made her look like a devil wearing PRADA, but because she lost all her relatives since she was 16 or was cursed by her subordinates Hiding in the toilet crying such a lonely and fragile inner world.
And another one with a poor appearance, basically a green leaf that doesn’t require acting skills. This person in THE PROPOSAL is Ryan Reynolds, who is handsome from beginning to end. After watching this film, I won’t be surprised by the new century sexy goddess Scarlett Johansson. Why would you be willing to stay with this man for a lifetime. From start to finish, he doesn't need any acting skills, he just needs to stand there laughing or frowning and pursing his mouth, most of the audience is already satisfied.
After the protagonist is the supporting role issue. The supporting roles in "The Ugly Truth" are lacklustre, almost totally unrecognizable. There are several supporting roles worth mentioning in THE PROPOSAL. The supporting roles of THE PROPOSAL are very brilliant, such as the old naughty boy Grandma Annie, and the striptease at the same time. It could be the priest's Ramone and so on.
The second is the standard plot and jokes. The biggest difference between THE PROPOSAL and "The Ugly Truth" is whether the old bottle contains new or old wine. The latter is to please the audience with excrement, urine and ass jokes, and finally to the end until the heinous ending. The PROPOSAL also has a cliché story, but because there are still bright jokes and supporting roles, the whole film is supported. There are many other scenes in the film where the whole audience laughs and turns, such as the collision of two naked people, and the legendary Ryan Reynolds' "Morning Bo", which can easily touch the audience's laughter. The plot turning in the latter part of the story is not in the end. An example is the scene where Grandma Annie confessed his last words after a heart attack. If Grandma Annie really died like this and then allowed the actor to dare to seek true love, then the film would be ruined in this ending; however, the film chose to use a slightly less vulgar material to save the ending. However, there are still many shortcomings in the plot of THE PROPOSAL. The biggest one is that the two people fell in love too quickly, and the emotional preparation is still not enough. After all, they have only been together for three days. It is not easy for the audience to believe that the two are willing to stay with each other for life after three days. The film is handled too casually. In addition, I personally think that the film’s portrayal of the heroine’s psychology is very appropriate, but the portrayal of the actor is less pitiful. As a result, Ryan Reynolds is almost a big vase. The scenes between him and his ex-girlfriend could have been explored, which is really a pity.
The shooting location cannot be ignored. Romance is the most important thing in romantic comedy besides being funny. After all, most of the audience is couples and female audiences. "The Ugly Truth" has almost no "scenery" at all, and the large number of small towns in Alaska presented by THE PROPOSAL is simply a feast for the eyes.
Generally speaking, THE PROPOSAL is quite good in the same type of movies. Finally, one of the four stars was given because Ryan Reynolds is so handsome....so recommended to friends who like romantic comedies and those who like nymphomaniacs^^ .
