I decided to make a small reading note for "Angels and Demons". After all, I really like the part of the novel that begins the analysis of the relationship between religion and science.
At the beginning of the story, Professor Langdon of Religious Symbolism from Harvard University received a call from the director of the Swiss European Center for Nuclear Research (CERN) and discrete particle physicist Maximilian Kohler. He quickly arrived at CERN for a Mingjia murder case. The reason for the killing is that Leonardo Vetra, a physical scientist and Catholic priest, with the help of his adopted daughter, biophysicist Vittoria Vetra, has reproduced the “Big Bang” environment of the origin of the universe through experiments, and “proved” that God from the Bible The creation process from nothing. Of course, the details of the story development are much more complicated and entertaining. No wonder it will be made into a Hollywood commercial blockbuster. But the part of the relationship between religion and science omitted from the movie is precisely the most exciting chapter in my opinion.
The details of Leonardo Vetra's experiments are very similar to what the high-speed particle collider currently in operation at CERN in Switzerland has to do. It cannot be found in nature unless it exists in a fleeting small amount, because once antimatter comes into contact with ordinary matter, the two immediately annihilate each other—all transformed into light and combined. CERN announced in 1995 that they had produced the world's first antimatter, and in 2000 it announced that it had successfully produced about 50,000 low-energy antihydrogen atoms. But since it is a fictional novel, the inner logic does not need to be true.
What is interesting is the inference of the success of the experiment. The key to the experiment in the book is the super energy density during the collision. As long as we accept the point that extreme energy produces matter, the Big Bang and religious creation will be unified: scientific methods have reproduced the universe in zero seconds, and the final result of scientific development is to prove the existence of God. Although I don't like Vittoria Vetra in this story. As a scientist, she has always failed to fail. She is really not a smart vase, but I really like her dialogue asking Langdon whether she believes in God. My personal understanding of this world is very perceptual, and I also believe that there is a higher form of power. Of course, this power is not a specific person mentioned by any religion. At the same time, this power should treat all living things equally. The so-called various manifestations of dreams and other miracles are really the products of self-deception and deception of human beings-as human beings visit, natural destruction, human beings as cancer cells on the earth, why should we get so much weight from God and get more love? ? This is simply more narcissistic than beauty writers who write with their bodies!
