When I was a child, I saw this movie for the first time. I felt that it was a pure special effects action movie. It talked about the war between humans and alien worms, and finally won. The picture is spectacular, but there is no connotation at all.

When I watched this movie for the second time, I found out about the evil of the Zerg, about the disasters suffered by human beings, and about the cause of the war. All came from the TV news reported in the movie. What the audience sees directly from the perspective is only the combat of individual soldiers. At that time, I already understood that TV was just a propaganda tool, so I realized the irony of the movie.

In fact, the movie still has obvious hints in this regard.

The beginning of the war was when the earth was hit by a meteorite, causing heavy casualties. Then the world government immediately announced through the TV network that these meteorites were an attack on the earth controlled by the alien zerg, and launched a war.

However, in the early days of the war, when the Earth Army's fleet parked near an alien planet was attacked by the Zerg, the Earth Government was shocked. It was unexpected that the Zerg had a means of space defense.

So here is the contradiction. The government does not believe that the Zerg has the ability to fight in space, but thinks that they can manipulate meteorites to attack the earth?

The truth is that the Earth government has always discriminated against the Zerg, rendering them a greedy and vicious race. After the earth was hit by a meteorite, the government declared that it was a war initiated by the Zerg in order to divert the conflict, and then declared war on the Zerg. They thought that the war could be easily won, but they didn't expect the Zerg to resist hard and stubbornly. After paying a heavy price, the Zerg was defeated.

Ironically, the film is interspersed with one side of the brainwashing conspiracy promoted by the government through TV propaganda, and the other side is the growth and bloody battle of young soldiers. The more he exaggerated the blood of the soldiers, the stronger the irony.

When I first realized this, I was surprised by what I discovered.

Recently re-watched the beginning of this movie. It was discovered that when the movie started, the protagonists were still school students. The teacher taught them whether it was politics or history. The theme was the decline of the democratic system. The teacher also emphasized in the class that violence can solve the problem. The example used is the Hiroshima nuclear explosion. The teacher also explained that the current Earth government is run by veterans. Ordinary citizens have no citizenship and cannot vote. Only after joining the army do they have the right to vote. The modern cities that appear after that will only make people feel scared. Although the material world is developed here, there is no freedom at all. People receive brainwashing education from the very beginning and then become part of the dictatorship.

This is actually a very clear explanation. A person with common sense will understand that the tone of this movie is ironic when you see it here. There is no need to pay attention to the narrative structure of the movie as I did when I watched this movie.

But I didn't notice such obvious hints at all at that time, because I really didn't have common sense at that time, because I had been receiving similar brainwashing education.

Zander: That's it. Drop status is 100%. We're empty, ma'am.

Johnny Rico: I'm not in any hurry.

Carl: [Indicating Dizzy Flores] Others are waiting.

Johnny Rico: [Looking at Dizzy] Did you read her mind?

Carl: Don't have to. It's pretty clear what she wants.

Johnny Rico: Yeah, but I want Carmen.

Carl: Oh, you got it bad!
