The science fiction spirit we lack

Wouldn't it be too sad if you didn't feel the slightest touch in your heart when looking at the vast starry sky?

"Time and Space Contact", a rare good movie! If I had watched it 7 years earlier, I might not have taken the liberal arts exam. Compared with "Forrest Gump", Robert Zammski has dedicated more sincere works.

It looks strange at first glance. This theme is not inferior to the grandeur of "2001: A Space Odyssey", the story is not inferior to the ups and downs of "Apollo 13", the special effects are not inferior to the exquisiteness of "Forrest Gump", and the performance is not inferior to the ecstasy of "The Silent Lamb" The movie, but it hardly caused any big repercussions, but only gained an excellent reputation among small-scale crowds.

But if you like this movie, it's easy to understand why it was ignored. This is one of the movies I have seen that fits the spirit of science most, and it is also the movie I have seen that perfectly integrates the spirit and philosophy of science fiction, science, religion, and faith. But it is because of such obsession with the spirit of science fiction that this film greatly limits the range of audiences that can talk with it to a small audience. To be an exaggeration, if you haven't thought deeply about this objective world, I'm afraid it won't resonate strongly with this film.

It is difficult to judge whether the theme of the film is about science fiction, science, religion or faith, although sometimes these four concepts cannot be separated from each other independently.

The film’s perspective and the themes hidden in the perspective basically follow these stages: science fiction-science-religion-sci-fi-faith-sci-fi. Among them, the sci-fi perspective only has the beginning and the bridge through the wormhole in the middle. It can be said that in addition to the three parts that add up to less than half an hour, we will realize that this is a sci-fi film, other times will be Let us involuntarily immerse ourselves in the film documentary style. This is a vivid psychological portrayal of intellectuals and think tank elites.

There is a great science fiction writer in China, Liu Cixin, who wrote a shocking short story "Wearing the Road in the Morning", which means "heard the Tao in the morning, and you can die at night". The story of a scientist who happily died in order to obtain the most true learning of the universe when a higher existence arrived. What is a group of scientists? Of course, we can’t expect all scientists to have the same values, but I heard that the core motivation of real scientists’ painstaking research is not "benefiting mankind", let alone "glorious ancestors", but just to satisfy their own inability to restrain. Curiosity. Of course, there will be many artisans and politicians in the scientific community, but satisfying curiosity is actually the state of a "really pure" scientist-although this will disappoint many people.

Obviously, "Overtime Contact" holds the same point of view. Through the description of the heroine Judy Foster's father-daughter love, the film gave the female scientist unparalleled motivation: curiosity, which led to her more or less strange and alternative compared to theologians, politicians and even peers. She does not care about the relationship between men and women, she does not care whether the research results have practical significance, she does not care whether she has gained enough reputation and status in the eyes of others, she only cares whether someone gives her funds, let her go after what she owns without scruples. Desire for the truth. The film first uses the perspective of science fiction to define the scientific spirit: "seeking truth" by defining the ideal scientist. The logic is simple. The credibility of the “truth” obtained based on curiosity is definitely much higher than the “truth” obtained based on economic and political considerations.

Then the theme of the film began to lean toward religion. Although religion appears in the form of a dramatic obstacle, it can be seen from the following two points that the film’s thinking on religion is not negative: First, Judy Foster cannot prove that he "loves his father". ; Second, Judy Foster, who does not believe in God, is not qualified to travel time and space on behalf of all mankind. And when Judy Foster succeeded in a "time and space contact" that could not be proved by existing science by mistake, Judy Foster's own belief was also shaken, she understood the shortcomings of insisting on pure science, she realized In the world, there are things beyond scientific ability.

So the film moves on to the next theme: faith. The taught beliefs are called religions, and the proven beliefs are called sciences. Belief itself is a greater spirit of mankind, which runs through human life thoroughly. When Judy Foster realized this time, the film returned to a pure science fiction perspective, examining the ins and outs of the entire incident, and finally let Judy Foster say such a heart-

wrenching statement: "I have such an experience, I can't To prove it, it is impossible to explain it, but as a member of humanity, I feel that it is true with all my heart. I was given such a wonderful thing, and it changed everything about me forever. It was a foresight, a question about The foresight of the universe tells us with certainty how small and insignificant we are, but how rare and precious we are; it is a foresight that tells us that we belong to such a thing, it is greater than us, and it makes us Everyone no longer feels alone. I hope I can share it with others. I hope that everyone, even for a brief moment, can feel the fear, humbleness and hope.”

Someone may raise objections here. Why do I think science fiction is A more advanced form of thinking that transcends religion, science, and belief. Then I tried to answer this: The spirit of science fiction has nothing to do with the limitations of science. It can not only doubt and reflect on science itself, it can also challenge religion, art, the entire human civilization and even the ultimate truth of the universe. Here, I think the spirit of science fiction is the most perfect expression of the philosophical spirit, and its goal is actually only one: the pursuit of truth, goodness, and beauty. Its posture is proud and humble at the same time; its end is hope and despair at the same time.

And this may be the spirit that most of us have begun to lose. "Who can do it?" You?
