Trust and sincerity

Today I finished watching the American movie "Meet Your Father-in-Law".

The plot of the story is very simple. The girlfriend leads the man to see the picky dad. Because of misunderstandings and coincidences, a series of ridiculous plots are triggered. Finally, the misunderstandings are resolved, the suspicions are cleared, and the happy ending. A similar Xu Zheng also has a movie of the same name, "Meet the Father-in-Law", The general flow of the two is similar but the specific plots are different, and they are both very good comedies.

If I have learned anything from it, it must be trust and sincerity. The generation and elimination of the contradiction between the male protagonist, the father-in-law, and the girlfriend are inseparable from these two words. The father-in-law's distrust of the male protagonist leads to misunderstandings, and the male protagonist's sincerity to his girlfriend makes him forgive him. People’s ability to express themselves in language is limited, and one’s knowledge is also limited. Misunderstandings and contradictions between people are inevitable (even if the purpose is for the other’s good). The way to eliminate or reduce this contradiction may be Be sincere and trustworthy (it's a bit cliché, looks very boring, but how to say it is the truth).

See father-in-law's rules:

1. Don't lie;

2. Don't do what you can. If you don't, you won't. If you don't know, you don't know;

3. Love his girlfriend;

4. Willing to compromise with his relatives for the sake of his girlfriend;

5. Be less jealous of his ex-boyfriend, after all, you are the current boyfriend, so be generous;

Meet the Parents quotes

  • Greg Focker: Does he hook all your boyfriends up to his little machine?

    Pam Byrnes: Well, he doesn't need a machine. He's a human lie detector.

    Greg Focker: What?

    Pam Byrnes: Greg, my father was never in the rare flower business. That was just his cover. He was in the C.I.A. for 34 years.

    Greg Focker: How could you not tell me this?

    Pam Byrnes: I wanted to, honey, but it was strictly on a "need-to-know" basis.

    Greg Focker: So, what? He's in the C.I.A.? He was a spy? He is a spy?

    Pam Byrnes: No, he was more like a psychological profiler. They used him to interrogate suspected double agents in the company.

    Greg Focker: Oh yea. That's great. I was scared of your dad back when I thought he was a florist. It's wonderful to know that I've actually got a C.I.A. spy-hunter on my ass.

  • Jack Byrnes: So what if he took the MCATs? He's still not good enough for Pam.

    Dina Byrnes: Who is, Jack? Nobody has ever been good enough for your Pam. I mean, do you realize that you never even warmed up to Kevin until she broke up with him? Maybe it's time you think about what Pam wants.
