Sergei Parajanov, as a photographer, he is great. Most of the pictures presented in the movie can almost be described as "the ultimate beauty". But as a director, IMHO, he failed because he lacked the most basic "storytelling" skills that a director should have.
But I'm not saying that this is a completely empty film, at least the first half of it "speaks", "by telling a heartbreaking love story, showing the audience a (seemingly) ) The Magnificent History of Ukraine”.
But in the second half of the movie, the director simply gave up the idea of continuing to "tell the story well". Why did the male lead marry the "second female lead"? How did the "second heroine" "steal a man"? Why was the male protagonist killed by a "wild man"?
In the process of narrating this plot, director, you have to give some "emotional foreshadowing" or something? Unfortunately, nothing. The director is busy showing the audience the great rivers, mountains and customs of Ukraine during this time! (By the way, if it is a promotional film of the Ukrainian National Tourism Administration, this movie is simply too perfect!)
To paraphrase a week The slogan that the stars used in the movie "movies shouldn't be made this way."
I don't like all those movies where the form is far greater than the content, unfortunately, including this movie.
