1. Cinema One Doctor's Clinic · Interior Scene · Night/Day

An old-fashioned black-and-white film was being shown in the cinema, and the audience was few and far between. On the screen is a doctor's clinic in the 1930s. One patient shouted and begged the female doctor to inject her with morphine. The patient's beautiful face was distorted by tears, drug addiction and unbearable pain. She knelt down at the doctor's feet, grabbed the doctor's legs, tugged at her hair, and rolled on the floor. The female doctor, wearing a white coat, looked at the patient sternly and indifferently. The overly mournful and exaggerated performance on the screen is completely the style of the late expressionism of the 1930s. The camera turns to a woman in the audience, who is the on-screen patient actor, but much older, with hair and trim typical of the 1950s. She is Veronica Foss. Veronica closed her eyes, as if listening intently to the sound on the screen.

Patient: You have to help me... You should help me, I can't stand it anymore, I can't stand it anymore... I'm going to die of pain... Please have pity on me, have pity on me. I'll give anything, including myself, anything... I beg you. I can give you anything, including myself, everything...

Doctor: Everything?

Skipping the patient's twisted face with a hint of doubtful expression, she raised her head and nodded humiliatingly.

Patient: Everything.

With a look of contempt, the doctor kicked the patient away and walked to the desk. She opened the drawer and took out a bottle of medicine and a needle. The patient almost stood up, staring blankly at the doctor, like a hungry animal watching his every move. The female doctor interrupted her preparations and gave the patient a cold and decisive look.

Doctor: Well, that's all.

The doctor shook his head arrogantly, pointed to the paper on the table, and motioned the patient to approach her. The patient climbed to the table, struggled to pick up a pen from the table, and signed the paper. She lifted her sleeves, bare her arms, and never took her eyes off the doctor. The doctor prepares the needle and grabs the patient's arm. The needle is getting closer and closer to the patient's arm.

Patient: Thank you...I'm yours now...all I have is yours...now all I can give you is my death.

Doctor: Thank you. However, I don't know what to do with such a gift.

2. Studio · Interior · Daytime (flashback)

In the studio, Veronica is shooting the last shot of the doctor's clinic.

Director (voice-over): Thank you.

Boarder: "Insidious Drugs" 145 shots, fifth time. the last time.

Veronica just finished playing the role of the patient, and in the applause of the film crew, she regained her former beauty. The director stood up to congratulate her, and the two left the scene.

VOICE OVER (continued with applause): That's great, Veronica, you're so amazing...it's unparalleled...you've moved me.

VERONICA (laughs): It's touching -- it's my profession.

Raybine: I'm so proud of you.

The man standing behind said he was Marcos Raybine. Veronica ran up to hug him.

Director: I thank you too, Veronica.

Veronica: You should thank him... without him there would be no me.

Director: Dear Raybine, your script is really good.

Raybine nodded in satisfaction, Veronica smiled happily.

Veronica (turning to the director): Honey, you don't get what I mean, I'm not referring to his script, it's his love that gives me strength, understand? ...is his love.

Boarder (Voiceover): Rest now! Technicians please!

3. Cinema·Interior·Night

Veronica still closed her eyes. She suddenly stood up and walked out of the cinema.

4. Woods·Exterior·Night

It was pouring rain, and Robert Crone was walking in the deserted woods with an umbrella. Suddenly he stopped and turned to look: under the tree stood a woman drenched by the heavy rain, her hair was stuck to her cheeks, and the makeup on her face had long been blurred by the rain - it was Veronica . She looked at Robert motionless. Robert approached her.

Robert: Will you accept my umbrella?

Veronica looked at Robert seriously, as if she was seriously considering an important and extraordinary proposal. Finally made up my mind.

Veronica (laughing): The umbrella?

Robert was a little embarrassed, but he quickly accepted the humorous woman's challenge.

Robert: Whatever you want to call it. For me, it can also be called an umbrella.

The two walked out of the woods, arm in arm. A tram arrives, and the two run into it. The tram left, and the sign next to it said: Geisegger Steiger. This is a suburb of Munich, home to several famous film studios.

5. In the Tram, Interior Scene, Night

Trams pass through the residential areas of Greenwalt and Harracing. Robert and Veronica are standing behind the tram. Veronica stared at the tramway outside the window and turned her back on Robert. Faced with this eccentric woman, Robert felt overwhelmed. He took off his trench coat and handed it to her.

Ticket inspector: Next stop, Gross Heiserohe Bridge!

Robert: I said, you put on my trench coat first... or it should freeze.

Geronika: Thank you... What's your name?

Robert: Robert Cron.

Veronica: Mr. Crohn, you are very warm.

Robert looked at Veronica's back and hesitated.

Robert: We can sit down... there are seats available over there.

Veronica was suddenly very excited, and her tone seemed a little rough.

Veronica: I don't want to sit. I beg you, let's just stand here...

Robert didn't expect his suggestion to elicit such a strong reaction, and felt embarrassed at once. Veronica seemed to sense his embarrassment and turned to look at him.

Veronica: If I sit down, I might be recognized by others, understand...they will stare at me, talk about me, and someone will come and talk to me, do you understand what I mean?

She stopped suddenly and turned away. Robert nodded, pretending to understand.

Robert: Oh, yes...I see.

Veronica breathed a sigh of relief and smiled with relief, a smile that made her look incredibly beautiful despite her unkempt face.

Veronica: Thank you...really!

6. The tram stops in front of Dr. Cass's clinic · Exterior · Night

Munich's city center: Thiersplatz. Veronica Foss gets off the tram. Robert watched through the rain-soaked car window; she trotted forward on the pavement, getting smaller and smaller as the tram passed her. Robert shook his head and left the car window until he couldn't make out her figure. From Veronica's point of view, the camera looks at the receding tram. After the tram disappeared from her sight, she steadied her pace, stopped in front of a gate, and quickly entered. Next to the door is written: Dr. Mariana Kass, neurologist, consultation by appointment.

7. ROBERT'S APARTMENT Interior Scene Night

Robert was woken up by the phone ringing, but he didn't get up, he just shook his girlfriend Heiliette, who was sleeping beside him, to wake up.

Robert: Phone!

Heliette: It's yours!

Robert got up and knocked over a few bottles. He turned on the light and kicked the ashtray over. Heliette crawled over from the bed and gave him a look.

Heliette: Really! Why don't you drink up the beer?

Henriette went to answer the phone, and Robert sat on the edge of the bed, motionless. He took a small notebook from the bedside table and read in a low voice as he wrote.

Robert: Hearing that unheard sound at night...

Heliette: He's resting.

Robert: The hundredth name of Allah...a brass drum sound that Mozart never wrote in his lifetime.

Heliette: Where? when?

Robert: Conversations heard inside the Matrix.

Robert crossed out the verse he had just written from the book.

Heliette: I'll go back and tell him...thank you, bye! . . . a woman who said she wanted to see you at the Privilege Hotel at five o'clock this afternoon, Mrs. Foss (coughing).

Robert: I don't know her.

Harriet (laughs): It's true. She said you were a very attractive man.

As Heliette spoke, she lay back on the bed and slid into the bed. Robert looked preoccupied.

8. Hotel Privilege·Tea Room·Interior·Night

The ordinary woman who was frightened in the heavy rain turned into a beautiful, elegant and confident woman at this time. She is the famous actress Veronica Foss. Sitting across from her, Robert was a little unpredictable. He couldn't figure out what the arrogant woman in front of him wanted from him, why he was dating him in such a luxurious place, and why she was interested in him. Anyway, the date fascinated him. The two were sitting in the tea room on the second floor of the Privilege Hotel.

Waiter: Your drink.

Robert: Thank you.

Waiter: You can ask at any time, sir.

Veronica: It must be interesting to say that you are in charge of sports news at the newspaper.

Robert: Sometimes it's okay.

Veronica (laughs): It's always exciting to watch people fight against each other. The victors are exciting, and the losers are equally exciting. Why are you fighting?

Robert: Me?

Veronica: Yes, you. Tell me about your life, okay?

Robert: Well...you see, my life is rather monotonous. There will be neither victory nor defeat.

Veronica: Is it your wife who answered the phone?

Robert: It's my girlfriend.

Veronica: Do you love her?

Robert: Do I love her? ...tolerating each other.

Veronica: Robert... can I just call you Robert? (laugh)

ROBERT (nodding): Of course.

Veronica (laughs): I think I have to blame you...

Robert didn't understand, Veronica gave him a lenient smile.

Robert: Blame?

Veronica: Because you didn't recognize me right away, did you? You didn't recognize who I was, did you?

Robert still didn't understand who she was.

Robert: Ah...really...but I didn't recognize it suddenly.

Veronica: You can't lie to me. But what I want to tell you is that someone cares about me without knowing that I'm Veronica Foss, that I'm a celebrity. What a pleasure it was for me. I've finally become a... ordinary person again.

Robert: Yeah, movies are...not reality.

Veronica was a little restless, obviously not satisfied with Robert's answer. She looked around and waved at a waiter. The waiter approached and bowed.

Veronica: Waiter! The lighting here is unbearable. Please turn off the lights and light a few candles.

Waiter: Yes, ma'am.

The waiter lit a cigarette and a candle for Veronica, then walked away. Veronica lifted the candle on the table and turned it, creating a mysterious shading effect on her face. Robert looked at her ecstatically.

Veronica: You know, light and shadow—that's the secret of cinema.

Robert: I don't watch movies very often.

Veronica: You can see the effect of light and shade on my face... do you think I'm pretty?

Robert: Beautiful, I think you are a very beautiful woman.

Veronica: Yeah, yeah, yeah, bright and dark. Do you... have three hundred marks?

ROBERT (finding out his wallet) Three hundred marks? I don't know, maybe there is?

Veronica: I just saw a brooch in the store, a small brooch, but it's so beautiful... As long as I want something, I have to have it right away.

Veronica emphasized her tone, emphasizing the last sentence. Robert had already pulled out his wallet and handed her the money.

Robert: Take it.

Veronica: Thank you, will you wait here for me for a while?

Veronica put away the money, smiled flatteringly at Robert, and left. Bruch's Violin Concerto is playing in the hall.

9. Hotel Privilege · Staircase and Lobby · Interior Scene · Night

The camera follows Veronica from the upstairs tea room into the hall. Robert watched her upstairs as she walked across the hall to the small jewelry store in the hotel.

10. Jewelry Store · Interior Scene · Night

In a high-end jewelry store, the salesperson in front of Veronica was a little overwhelmed.

Veronica: I want a three-hundred-mark brooch, please hurry up. I said I want a brooch of 300 marks,...isn't it difficult?

Salesperson: What do you think... madam, what do you think of this? That's about three hundred marks. Two hundred and eighty-five marks to be exact.

Veronica's eyes fell on the pictures of actors and singers hanging on the wall. The only unsigned photo in the photo is Veronica's, a typical star photo from the 1940s.

11. Hotel Privilege·Tea Room·Interior·Night

Robert asked for a beer. Veronica approached him from behind, covered his eyes with her hands, and whispered.

Veronica: Guess who I am? A mysterious uninvited guest, or... Hahaha!

Waiter: Your beer.

She laughed, and then said--

Veronica: No... or don't guess,...let me guess who you are...you are the man who asked for a beer,...because it's easier to figure out if the woman who betrayed him or not. Another mysterious stranger...

Veronica, who had been standing, turned in front of Robert.

Veronica: Is it?

Robert was a little embarrassed. Veronica didn't give him time to answer, and just kept talking quickly. Suddenly she looked anxious, as if she had lost interest in him.

Veronica: Don't say anything, because now you can only tell lies!

Veronica waved to the waiter. Robert got up and subconsciously picked up his wallet. Veronica made a gesture of rejection.

Veronica: I'll pay.

Veronica gave the waiter twenty marks.

Veronica: Stop asking for change, thank you. (turns to Robert) Nice to meet you, now I have to go...I have an appointment with a producer.

The two walked through the tea room.

Veronica: A filmmaker, of course for filmmaking, you know...he used me to make a lot of money, and now he's thinking about the next step,...I don't want to make films anymore, but No way...isn't this brooch nice?

Veronica kept talking, and Robert, who followed him, became more and more confused.

Veronica: I'm looking for a leading role. The role is good, but I can't help it... Besides, it's the script written by my husband... Of course, the script he wrote is suitable for me to play. You should really come to our house as a guest, and now I have to gone. Goodbye, Robert!

Veronica reached out to him, and Robert held her hand unnaturally, not knowing whether to shake or kiss her goodbye. Veronica smiled, put her arms around Robert's head, and kissed his cheek.

Veronica: You can call me Veronica if you want.

Robert: Goodbye, Veronica.

Robert said goodbye shyly like a middle schooler, and walked away. Veronica walked in the opposite direction. She hurried to a bloated gentleman. The man stood up from the sofa and stared at her hesitantly.

Veronica: What's so nice, fat man!

Producer: Veronica, my child,...what's the matter? Are you unwell?

Veronica: Ah, ah, Pretorius, it's okay, I'm fine.

13. Jewelry Store · Interior Scene · Night

Veronica stood in front of the salesperson, almost pleading. She was very nervous at the moment.

Veronica: People who should like it don't, what do you say? What am I doing with a brooch that doesn't work? Ah, ah... You see, you can't tell,... so please give me my money back.

The salesperson looked at Veronica speechless.

Veronica: Ah,...maybe I didn't explain clearly...

The polite proprietress of the jewelry store came from behind.

Mistress: Veronica Foss! I heard your voice right away. You can't imagine how happy I am now... Mrs. Foss certainly gets her money back... You remember, 1944, in Berlin.

The proprietress took the picture from the wall.

Veronica: Yes, remember. The movie was shot in 1943. There was a premiere, so I bought a leather jacket, and the premiere was canceled.

Boss: I feel like it was yesterday. Your husband was in a hurry, no wonder he...because it was still bombing. The store exploded after two months. I kept your photo, which you forgot to sign at the time.

With a pleading smile, the proprietress handed the photo to Veronica, and the salesperson handed over a pen. Veronica signed the photo.

Boss lady: Anyway,...it was a good time back then.

Veronica (smiles brightly): Yes, yes, every historical period has its charm... I'm about to make a new film now, and I'll send you a newer picture when I'm done.

Boss lady: It's an honor.

The two women sent Veronica all the way out the door.

Veronica: I'll come to you to buy jewelry when it's time for the premiere. I hope my husband won't be so impatient when we come again. At least don't forget to sign.

Boss lady: We must be waiting here. Say hello to your dear sir.

14. Robert's Room Interior Scene Night

Heliette was eating in the kitchen. Robert kept his Gulentich radio (a popular radio brand in the 1950s) and kept tuning in. He listens to music for a while and the news for a while.

Heliette: Three hundred marks for an aperitif... You mean, am I putting on a celebrity profile too? Is she pretty?

Robert: Beautiful.

Heliette: What did you say?

15. NEWSROOM · INTERIOR · DAY

The editorial office of a daily newspaper has many editors and many desks with typewriters. The newspaper's columnist editor Grete is looking for old newspapers. Robert was standing at her desk. He picked out a photo from an old newspaper: it was Veronica Foss.

Gretel: I already told you, 1951, 1950, 1949, the three-year war was when she was most popular. At that time, she worked for the Ufa Film Production Company, and it was said that there was a relationship between her and Goebbels. A little ambiguous.

Robert: No, Goebbels won't let her in the movie.

Gretel: It's all rumors. Goebbels has been helping her, so she can shoot one film after another... Of course, after the war, she couldn't tell the truth and clarify their relationship everywhere. Her colleagues in the literary and art circles believed her words... How do you know these things?

Robert: I know it from my colleagues in the literary and art circles.

Gretel: At the end of the day, money and ignorance. Actors are ambitious stupid mediocre people, people in the literary and art world are all... When did you start dealing with people in the literary and art world?

Robert: I am interested in literature and art.

Gretel: Stop talking nonsense! Tell me, why are you looking for Fox? She certainly can't play football.

Robert: If I want to go out with her, . . . have a drink or something?

Gretel: That's okay, she hasn't done a movie in three years. The two of you in a bar would make a good couple.

Robert: You think she's an alcoholic?

Gretel: All the actors can drink. It's natural to start drinking when you can't find a job. Her marriage was later ruined.

Robert: Is this true or a rumor?

Gretel: It's another law of nature: as long as it's a rumor about an actor, it's definitely true.

Robert: Why are actors so ambitious, stupid, mediocre?

Gretel: It's true.

Robert: Thank you, Gretel, ... if there is anything I can do to help, just say.

Robert took the newspaper he picked out and walked to the desk.

Gretel: There are always winners in sports, and I'm only interested in losers.

Robert: By the way, can you help me find Fox's address? She's a loser too, isn't she?

Gretel: The funniest thing is watching them lose (laughs), but it's boring to wait until they've already lost. Forth's address can be obtained from her agency: Carla Pietrovis, tel: 240533.

Robert: Thank you!

Robert went to his desk, took off his coat, and made a phone call.

16. Outside the house of Dr. Cass · exterior scene · daytime

Robert came to Dr. Kath's house. He checked the house number, looking in vain for Veronica Foss's name on it. The Trebes came out of the gate. Mr. Trebe wears glasses and uses a cane, and his clothes are a bit dated, but very upscale. His wife was as well-dressed as he was. Robert hesitated before speaking to Mr. Trebe.

Robert: Excuse me, can I ask you something?

Mrs. Trebe: Why do you ask, young man?

Robert was a little overwhelmed, and Mr. Trebe smiled smugly.

Mr. Trebe: Jenny, don't be so serious. This young man is very polite.

Mrs. Trebe: Young people these days are polite, but you can't forgive them for that, what do you think...

The two old men were joking with each other, as if it didn't matter if there was Robert.

Robert was about to go away when Mr. Trebe stopped him.

Mr. Trebe: Are you looking for someone?

Robert: Yes, there's a lady named Foss... She gave me this address, but...

Mrs. Tribe: Sometimes people change their addresses so that people who might need to find them know. Young people, may not want others to find them. Others create a sense of mystery around their lives...trust me, young man.

Robert: I believe...thank you for calling me "young man".

Mrs. Trebe: We are old and you are young. Some of the secrets that young people have yet to discover, old people already know. What do you think, Jayne, are we helping him?

Mr. Trebe: Of course, he's so polite...

Mrs. Trebe: You can ask them directly. If anyone knows some secrets, except the old man, it is the doctor. Especially this kind of doctor. Goodbye, young man.

Mrs. Trebe gave Robert a bright smile, and the two walked away. Robert walked through the door.

17. DR. KAS CLINIC · INTERIOR · DAY

Robert stood outside the door of Dr. Kath's clinic, and Physician Assistant Josefa wouldn't let him in.

Josepha: You have to make an appointment for a consultation. Look, it says on the door.

The woman said closing the door, and Robert turned and walked away dissatisfied.

Robert: Fuck, just ask if there's a lady named Foss living here.

Josepha (slams the door open): Who?

ROBERT (stopping): Veronica Foss.

Josepha: I don't know such a person.

ROBERT (shrugs, turns away): It's okay, thanks.

JOSEPHA (coming out of the door, a little nervously): What's the matter with you? ……who are you?

Robert (seeing Josepha's unease, approaches her slowly, thinking about how to introduce Baiji): I'm a... reporter.

Josepha (looking at him, suddenly polite, even a little humbly): Why didn't you say earlier that you were not a patient for the consultation...please. This way, please... please sit here. After a while, I immediately told the doctor that there was a reporter here.

Josepha said hurriedly, led Robert to the waiting room, and walked away on his own. Another woman was already waiting in the room, and walked past a black man, shirtless, with a towel around his neck. Josepha came in again, with a false smile on his face.

Josepha: Come in...the doctor's here...you won't be here long, are you?

Robert: No, it won't.

18. DR. KAS'S OFFICE ·Interior ·Day

The doctor was polite, but also nervous, and she carefully considered the wording of each sentence.

Dr. Cass: Mrs. Foss is a patient of mine...you know, that's all I can tell you...sorry, are you trying to write about Foss as an actor?

Robert: She should pay me back three hundred marks...I want the money back, that's all.

Dr. Cass: How did you find me here?

Robert: It's a professional secret.

Dr. Cass: You upset me.

Robert: I don't think so, it's just a way of saying...I just said it casually.

Dr. Cass: Then I'm relieved...but it's not unreasonable for famous actors to be reluctant to tell people their addresses.

The female doctor sent Robert to the door and chatted casually.

Robert: Yes, yes, . . . but debt collectors have their reasons.

Dr. Cass: Yes, artists are sometimes different from us. Some things are very careless...or just forget...not so strict.

Robert and the doctor had gone to the door, shaking hands and saying goodbye.

Dr. Cass: Mrs. Foss...I think she's very careful about money...I don't think you need to worry.

Robert: I'm relieved then, thank you for being so warm...bye.

Robert leaves. The doctor closed the door, and she paused for a moment to think. Josepha came towards her with an expression of suspicion. The doctor seemed to have made a decision, nodded, and walked towards the end of the corridor with Josepha.

19. Doctor Cass Clinic Veronica's Room Interior Scene Daytime

Veronica lay on the bed, staring fearfully at the door that was being opened in the darkness. The female doctor and Josepha entered the room, Veronica covered her hands in fear. Cass gestured to Josepha, who stepped forward and grabbed Veronica from the bed, twisting her hands behind her back. The female doctor spoke in a persuasive tone, almost with a friendly look. look at her.

Dr. Cass: If you need money, you should only ask me for it, you know?

Veronica nodded humbly.

Dr. Cass: You should ask me for everything you need, okay?

Veronica nodded.

Dr. Cass: You wouldn't want someone to stick a stick between us, would you? ……is not it? I'm your best friend, right?

The female doctor held Veronica's face with her hands, and Veronica nodded.

20. THE PRODUCER'S OFFICE · INTERIORS · DAY

In the waiting room of the filmmaker's office, Veronica stood irritably at the secretary's desk. The female secretary looked at her calmly and sympathetically.

Secretary: It doesn't matter if Mr. Pretorius is busy or if I tell you on my own initiative that he is busy, what do you think, Mrs. Foss?

Veronica: If it were before, I would have slapped you in the face.

Secretary: That's definitely not necessary. If it was before, you would have been invited in advance. isn't it, Mrs. Foss?

Veronica cried.

Secretary: Mrs. Foss, it's not that I have anything to do with you personally...the role you mentioned, he has already looked for a good candidate in his mind,...is a person completely different from you, do you understand?

The producer came out the door from the back room.

Pretorius: Veronica! Didn't expect you to be here!

Pretorius hugged Veronica, and he quietly made an impatient look to the secretary, who shrugged helplessly at him.

Pretorius: Why didn't you call me?

VERONICA (seriously): I called you three times and you weren't there.

Pretorius (acting angry) It's all excuses, I'm here all the time, it's just...

Veronica: What is it?

Pretorius: I wanted to give you that role, but the director...you know the current director...you can come wherever you want, and the director recommends his own girlfriend.

Veronica glanced at the producer, walked to the door that was not closed, and saw a girl sorting her clothes. Pretorius hurried over to close the door.

Veronica: Is that her?

Pretorius: Yes.

Veronica: Pretty,...younger than me.

Pretorius: It's just a lack of talent...if it's my word.

Veronica: Does she have a mother? I mean in the video.

Pretorius: Mother? Yes, what's up?

Veronica: Let me be the mother, the girl's mother... I beg you... let me be.

Pretorius: It's a very small role, only for a few days, Veronica... I dare not mention such a small role to you.

Veronica: That's why I'm here to ask you.

21. Robert's Newsroom Interior Scene Night

Robert was sitting at the typewriter, and Henriette came from behind and put her arms around his neck.

ROBERT (a little surprised): What are you doing here?

Heliette: Come and pick you up.

Robert: You never come here to pick me up.

Heliette: You never said any woman was prettier than me.

Robert: I mean she's pretty, . . . but not prettier.

Heliette (hands him an envelope): Are you communicating now?

Robert stood up, and Henriette sat in his seat, reading the verse just written on the typewriter.

Heliette: Memories have been forgotten, and hopes are shattered; but when they died in the ascendant, they are now lingering; ... Robert, the poems are beautiful, but a little sad...

Robert: I told you a thousand times, don't read my poems! I do not want to! These verses are disgusting!

He pulled the verse from the typewriter, kneaded it with his hands, and threw it away.

Heliette: You are going too far!

ROBERT (hands the letter to Heliot): Yes.

Heliette (reading in a low voice): My dear Crohn's, to pay you back this little loan, . s...

Heliette wrapped her arms around Robert's neck, looking indifferent. She pulled Robert up, who seemed a little overwhelmed.

Heliette: Not very friendly. She could at least sign the letter, it would be more polite, wouldn't she?

Robert shrugged.

Heliette: ...or maybe Mr. Crohn was exaggerating when he told me about his encounter with the famous actor...or maybe he wanted me to have an excuse to pick him up for dinner at the office.

ROBERT (smiles at her): Who knows?

Heliette: Your trick is very effective... (laughs) But I have to punish you for inviting me to dinner.

22. The Staircase of Robert's House Interior Scene Night

In the dead of night, on the dimly lit stairs, Robert and Heliette were slightly drunk, talking and laughing as they walked.

ROBERT: If they played with 1860, I wouldn't have to wake up early tomorrow morning, but these darn insisted to play with... Kaiserslautern.

Heliette: I don't understand how they both have the last name Walter since they're not brothers.

Robert: Since the two of them are not brothers, but... just because they are brothers, they are both named Walter.

Heliette: You're confusing me... If they were brothers, they should have two different names, one called Fritz and the other called Walter...

Robert: Am I not talking? One of them was named Otmar and the other was named Fritz.

Heliette: What about the other one? The last name is Walter? So you have to do three interviews...

Robert: Yes, . . . one with Otmar, one with Fritz, and one with Walter. Honey, you are quite right.

Robert was about to kiss Heliette when Heliette suddenly stiffened and stared dumbfounded at Veronica Foss, who was waiting for them at Robert's door. Veronica kept smiling.

Veronica: The lighting of these stairs is not designed for women, Miss Hessberg, are you?

Harriet and Robert were speechless. Veronica continued speaking in a very natural tone.

Veronica: Robert, do you have a car?

Robert: The car has, what's the matter?

Veronica: Because I want to spend the night with you, my house is a little far from here, in Steinberg.

Robert was speechless and just stared at her, and Henriette kissed him and walked upstairs. Veronica kissed Heliette kindly as she passed by Veronica.

Veronica: Men always ask "why" first, don't they?

Veronica went down the steps, Robert hesitated, and followed down the stairs. Heliette watched them go away from a height.

23. Villa Steinberg · Interior · Night

All the furniture in the living room was covered tightly with white cloth. Veronica lit the candle holder, opened the piano and sang while playing, and Robert lit the second candle holder.

VERONICA (singing): ...some girls, some boys...some sadness, some joy, these are memories, these are memories.

Veronica stood up, went into the bedroom, and started undressing.

Robert: Your husband isn't here?

Veronica: If my husband was here, I wouldn't be here with you....We had agreed to go on vacation, but for many years, there was no chance....As a result, a telegram from the producer , my husband went to Capri,...a contract is a contract, there's no way around it.

Robert walked into the kitchen holding the candle, he opened the refrigerator, it was empty, not even connected to the power. He went back to the living room, and Veronica just came out of the bedroom.

Robert: Shall I turn on the main power switch?

Veronica: No, let's go, let's make candles, . As if he knew in advance that the time of death was approaching, he had packed everything up. what do you say? Do you have these quirks too?

Robert: No, how about you?

Veronica (unbuttoning her pajamas): Me? ...I like to possess unguarded men, you are an unguarded man, right?

Veronica walked towards the bedroom and Robert turned on the radio.

The same location as the play, but the furniture is uncovered, the floor is carpeted, and the lights are on. The news on the radio makes it clear that the background is circa 1944. Marcos Raybine was smoking and drinking, looking very restless. Veronica's sweet voice came from the bedroom.

Veronica: Turn off the radio, it's boring!

Marcos: Listen to the news.

Veronica went into the living room, sat down and poured herself a drink.

Veronica: We don't need to listen to the news, the battle is not here. Find a bandstand and listen, please, please... turn off the lights, please.

MARCOS (goes to the gramophone, finds a record): Why do we always have to be so useless, always have to work, have to do something, . . . why can't we live comfortably?

Veronica: Why don't you understand me? If an actress is going to play a scene of... possessing a man... then she has to think of condensing all the women's personalities into this one character... so she needs special lighting and special music.

Marcos: Yes, you need alcohol, you need sleeping pills, and…

Veronica: Yes, alcohol and sleeping pills, why not? And don't you also drink all day long?

Marcos: I drink,...but I drink for a different purpose than yours,...I drink to relax, but you drink to...feel different, feel great, attractive, feel the world There is only you.

Veronica appeared in the living room under the sheets, her hair disheveled and her eyes dull.

Veronica: You, you broke my vase,...you want to destroy my home! ...are you trying to destroy me? !

She screamed and fell on the piano, and Robert hurriedly bent over to help her. He stared into her eyes, grabbed her hair with both hands...

Veronica: I don't know you... don't touch me!

Robert: I'm Robert, you're Veronica, ... we just had sex together.

Robert tugged at her hair with both hands, Veronica sobbed, she was less nervous and slumped.

Veronica (crying): I'm not feeling well,...take me to the hospital,...take me to the city, please, please.

Don't tell him where the broken vase came from... ah, better... don't show him... you have to promise me! . . . when you find the new vase, go to my house and leave it in the old place... here is the key.

Robert's car suddenly stopped in front of Dr. Cass's house. As soon as the car stopped, Robert got out of the car and went around Veronica to help her out. Robert glanced at the dark high-rise buildings, none of which were lit. Veronica was already having a hard time supporting, she leaned on Robert, and the two crossed the road to the door of the building. Just as Robert was about to ring the doorbell, Veronica stopped him and looked at him kindly.

Veronica: Now you should go.

Robert: What if there's no one up there? ...what if we don't open the door? ...

Veronica: There will be someone, this is my doctor for many years, I know her very well... (laughs) She will prescribe it for me... Now you go, I will go in as soon as you leave,... I will give You call...thank you...thank you very much.

Robert kissed Veronica's outstretched hand with a sad look in his eyes. He got into the car and watched her enter the building door. A window lit up in the dark building.

Dr. Cass: How many tablets did you take?

Veronica: I'm so tired, please...

Dr. Cass: Do you think these sleeping pills will help you? is not it?

Veronica: Very bitter...

Dr. Cass: Yes, yes, it's very bitter... so that you can remember, hurry up!

Josepha picked up Veronica and dragged her to the urinal, and Veronica began to vomit.

Dr. Cass: What is that man waiting for downstairs?

Veronica: Which man? I don't know any man.

Dr. Cass: I believe you because you promised me... I'm your best friend. I'm your best friend, right?

Veronica: Yes, you are my best friend, help me!

Dr. Cass: Well, you have to spit out those sleeping pills before I give you the injection. I said...you don't want to die early, do you?

Veronica and Josepha walked back to the room.

Dr. Cass: You can only die with my permission.

Everyone laughed together. Music was playing on the radio all the time.

31. In front of Dr. Kath's house, in front of Robert's car, exterior, daytime

Early in the morning, Idel came out of the door, glanced at Robert's car, and got into his car as if nothing had happened. The sound of him starting the car woke Robert up. Robert saw the car go away.

Robert glanced at the doctor's building. Josepha came with two bottles of fresh milk. She smiled at Robert.

Josepha: The doctor asked if you would like to have breakfast with her?

32. Doctor Cass's Office Veronica's Room Living Room Interior Scene Daytime

Veronica fell asleep convulsively. The doctor closed the door and walked down the hall with Robert.

Dr. Cass: She likes this room... She feels it gives her a sense of security. She said it was her sanctuary.

Robert: Does she live here...I mean, does she come here often?

They came to the living room, where breakfast was already set on the table. The black man I've seen before is also here, wearing an American military uniform. Josepha poured everyone coffee and sat down. The female doctor was very polite, and Robert seemed a little tired and uneasy. News is playing on the radio.

Dr. Cass: In an emergency, when the pain becomes unbearable, . . . I should say, when the pain may become unbearable, . . . you know what I mean?

Robert: What kind of pain is this? Is it physical or spiritual?

Dr. Cass: Well, you see, in neurology, there's very little difference between the two... Whether it's real pain or imagined pain, it doesn't matter to the patient, the pain is there...

Robert: But this disease, what do you think? Can it be cured?

Dr. Cass: As serious as Mrs. Foss, . . . it's hard for me to say. She told me that she was going back to work soon and that I would help her, even though work might be harmful to her and it was hard to predict. When she is sick like now, she just wants me to hide her...

Robert smiled.

Dr. Cass: Or wish I killed her.

Everyone laughed.

DR. CASS (turning to GI): Do you find it interesting too?

American Soldier: Yes.

Dr. Cass: Thank you. The words I've said to you sincerely... Of course, it's best not to appear in the newspapers.

Robert: Don't worry, it should say "off the records".

Dr. Cass: "off the records", yes, yes, yes.

Robert: Now I have to go, thank you.

Robert got up and left the living room, and the female doctor accompanied him to the door.

Dr. Cass: Are you going now? I have to ask you a question too...is your interest in Mrs. Foss just professional or is there something else in it?

ROBERT (looking at the female doctor with an honest, but somewhat anxious look): Believe it or not...I don't know about that myself.

Dr. Cass (nodding knowingly): Goodbye!

Robert: Goodbye!

33. In front of Dr. Kath's house, in Robert's car, exterior, daytime

Robert got out of the car absentmindedly. Next to him sat Heliette. Robert was taken aback.

Robert: What are you doing? Did you start following me?

Heliette: It's not you, it's stalking her.

Robert: How did you know I was here?

Heliette: Listen, I've been living with a sports reporter for several years, and I know about him, . . . I know him . . .

ROBERT (face twisted in anger): Damn...

Heliette: Altmar, Fritz and Walter will be angry with you.

Robert: Altmar, Fritz and Walter.

Heliette: They'll be pissed off, . . . have a good night?

Robert: I don't know.

Heliette: Are you in love with her?

Robert: I don't know.

Heliette: What are you doing now?

Robert: Let's go and buy a vase, . . . gotta get it right.

Heliette: Unlike ordinary stores, your girlfriend's appreciation level is very high.

Robert and Heliette got out of the car, and Robert took out the vase he had broken at Veronica's house. He had just reached the door of the villa and saw Mr. Trebe talking to a gardener. Robert was startled, he turned around to hide, and also startled Heliette who was following behind him.

Heliette: I told you that girl is not normal, I think you are almost the same now.

Robert: Don't shout! ...I know the man.

Heliette: That's better, he can give you a discount.

ROBERT: I mean I saw him on the doorstep of whose... house, God, what's so complicated.

Heliette: I think it's complicated too! Now I have to go in and buy a vase for my beloved's beloved,...should it be the same as this one or it doesn't matter?

ROBERT (hands her the broken vase in his hand): Same as this, exactly the same, .

Heliette: Found it? ...found it by accident?

Robert: Yes, let's say it was for one of your girlfriends.

Heliette: One of my girlfriends...that's a good idea, I'll have to remember it.

Heliette looked at Robert happily, shook her head helplessly, and walked towards the villa. Robert was waiting for her outside in a panic.

35. The Villa in Trebe · Interior · Daytime

Mr. Trebe, always well-dressed, took Heliette into a dimly lit room, and Mrs. Trebe was there. There are oriental artworks all over the room.

Mr. Trebe: Heaven sent me an angel to try and test, ahhh...Jenny, do you think we should be tempted like this?

Mrs. Treybe: Anyway, we can talk to each other with respect, you can tell our mutual girlfriend, we already know the family like the back of the hand, and we know which ones are still ours.

Heliette: I,...just wanted to...

Mr. Trebe (hands her an identical vase) Take it,...you can go, be careful, this is a valuable,...my angel, you seem a little uneasy, don't you? This vase is more precious than a person's life, but in exchange I only want a little bit of happiness.

Heliette (doesn't understand what Mr. Trebe is talking about, can only murmuring): Of course...is your stuff always so cheap here?

Mr. Trebe: Of course not, of course not, you have many ways to enjoy happiness, and I, only...

Mr. Trebe accompanied Heiliette to the door.

Mrs. Trebe: You told our girlfriends that Mr. Trebe's book of happiness remembers every single account, and we know that the number of blank pages in this book of happiness is few and far between.

Mr. Trebe: Allow me to open the door to your world...my world is a dream. Please tell our mutual girlfriend that I miss...the pleasure she gave me in the end.

Mr. Trebe stopped Heliette's way, and he lifted his sleeves to reveal a tattooed number on his arm.

Mr. Trebe: I want to show you something.

Heliette: What is this?

Trebe: Treblinka concentration camp (a famous German concentration camp during the Fascist period)... Didn't our girlfriend tell you? It means that she still abides by the rules of the profession,...My angel, now you know why I don't want to have anything to do with your world anymore...

Heliette left the room, and Mr. Trebe hugged Mrs. Trebe tightly.

36. In Robert's car, exterior, daytime

Heliot sat next to Robert, holding the vase, looking forward in confusion.

Heliette: Now what?

Robert: ...I don't know.

Heliette: What I don't understand is that he thought it was the female doctor who sent me, but this damn vase belongs to that damn Foss,...sorry, it's yours...Veronica.

Robert: I don't know.

Heliette: Have you been fired from the newspaper?

Robert: I don't...

Heliette (finishing for him): You don't know.

Robert (continues to drive, he rubs his face with his hands, then speaks): Do me a favor, please? You put the vase in her house.

Heliette (frozen for a moment, happily): Why not, of course, yes...I've always wanted to see how a...a former movie star's villa was laid out...if I ran into her at her house Woolen cloth?

Robert: No.

Heliette: Then why don't you go? You can smell her panties again... sorry.

Robert: I have to go back to the newsroom. I have to keep working.

Heliette: How do you think our relationship... how can we continue? ……You do not know.

The editor-in-chief sat at his desk, and Robert explained nervously.

Robert: I went outside for a while.

Editor-in-Chief: You are not at Kaiserslautern.

Robert: You see, we've known each other for so long,...

Editor-in-Chief (lights a cigarette, approaches Robert): God, if you say that,...

Robert: I just wanted to say, . . . I'm really following an event, and you can trust me.

Editor-in-Chief: Your contract does not mention trust or distrust. The contract says you're in charge of sports news, ... not movie news.

Robert: It's also written in my contract that in exceptional circumstances...

Editor-in-Chief (interrupting): Of course, after talking to the Editor-in-Chief...

Robert: Aren't we talking about this, don't complicate things... it's a story about the downfall of a former movie star. It used to be golden light, but now it is dark and obscure.

The phone rang, and the editor-in-chief went to answer the phone.

Editor-in-Chief: I told you not to... Who? Looking for Robert? Wait, take it to me first.

Editor-in-Chief (speaks to Robert with hand over microphone): Your business... hello, beautiful charming lady, it's an honor to speak to you... my name is Borzo, editor-in-chief... at a dance a few years ago I introduced myself to you...of course you don't remember me, but I still remember you...what? ...yes, I'll call him right away...but I'll have to keep a watch on him...he's a slick...what? Ha ha ha... Interesting... Best regards to you.

He handed the phone to Robert.

Robert: Hey, it's me, Mrs. Foss... how are you? thanks. I'm fine too... of course, I'm interested... where? ...the 3rd hall in Bavaria...I will definitely come. Thanks for calling me. Goodbye, Mrs. Foss.

Robert put down the phone.

Editor-in-Chief (in Robert's voice): "Goodbye, Mrs. Foss", is that the way to talk to a movie star? Even though he's a former movie star... Isn't it better to leave this matter to the Ministry of Literature and Art?

Robert: No.

Editor-in-Chief: Well, I agree with you on keeping track of those psych clinics.

ROBERT (trying to hide his excitement): To figure out why her husband was running away?

Editor-in-Chief: Yes, but I still don't understand why a star goes to a psychological clinic... Did you write this or I wrote it?

ROBERT (goes to the door): I write.

39. Dr. Cass Clinic · Living Room · Interior Scene · Daytime

Veronica is dialing the phone. Behind her is an American soldier in a vest. He hummed a little tune and dispensed the medicine.

Veronica: Hey...is that the production office...I'm Veronica Foss...what? ...Veronica Foss...It's okay, it's okay, I just wanted to ask when the production car will arrive...yes... come pick up my car...I beg you not to talk to me so much , I know very well that I am not the protagonist of the film. Thanks, asshole!

Veronica dropped the phone, she didn't notice when she was calling. Dr. Cass came in from outside. Veronica was a little nervous, Kas looked at her coldly, and asked in a low voice with a threatening tone—

Doctor Cass: Where's the key?

Veronica: What key?

Dr. Cass: Give it back to me right away!

Veronica: I...

Dr. Cass: You didn't give it to him, did you?

Veronica: Something went wrong, he accidentally put the key in his pocket.

Dr. Cass: You gave him the keys to my house!

VERONICA (rising in protest): ...not your home...at least not yet.

Dr. Cass: Ah, isn't it?

Veronica: I'm still alive...I'm going back to work.

Dr. Cass: Yes, two days at most,...don't make people laugh!

AMERICAN (interrupting the conversation between the two women, in English): Doctor, can you give me some packing paper? There are three small vials of medicine here.

Dr. Cass (in English): Damn it! This is for her...

American Soldier: Huh, huh!

Dr. Cass: When will I see you, that reporter?

Veronica: He went to the set.

Dr. Cass: Well, you have to remember, I'm waiting for the keys to my house. Understand?

Veronica: Understood.

Dr. Cass: You won't be allowed to see him again in the future...Understood?

Veronica: This is my personal business.

Dr. Cass: Ah, yes? ...is it your personal business? ...If that's the case, then I'll have to tell him about your private affairs in person.

VERONICA (leaning on the piano): How dare you...

Dr. Cass: How is it? What can you do to me?

Veronica: Robert will be on my side.

Dr. Kass: Of course, men like drug-addicted women the most...you're making your debut and don't want to take a dose?

Veronica: Of course.

Dr. Cass: I thought, how do you want to pay for these medicines?

American soldiers are still distributing potions.

Veronica: With the money I earned... Besides, I still have jewelry.

Dr. Cass (seriously) Jewelry? ...what if I don't like it?

Veronica: I don't need injections anymore, .

Dr. Cass: Ha, is it? ...as if all the patients wanted to leave me today.

Veronica turned to leave.

Dr. Cass: Please stay here for a moment, there are people in the waiting room.

After the doctor finished speaking, he closed the living room door with a smile.

Mrs. Trebe: I beg you.

Dr. Cass: I've done my best to your husband...now it's up to him.

Mr. Trebe helped his wife to stand with difficulty, still looking at Dr. Cass with dignity.

Mr. Trebe: You're right, a book should be closed when you've finished reading it... Dr. Cass, what you gave me is indeed a very beautiful book.

Mr. Trebe kissed Dr. Kath's hand and left the clinic with his wife. Veronica has been watching all this through the living room glass window. Cass came in, Veronica left the living room, and the American soldier kept humming and doing his job.
