After watching "White Balloon" for the first time, I couldn't believe it, these are all of this movie. Its plot structure is very simple, telling the story of a little girl from a poor family who gets her favorite goldfish with the help of the people around her. The film develops only along this line, but in it, many backgrounds and details are explained indiscriminately. The documentary-style lens invisibly narrows the distance with the audience, as if this is the story that happened around us.
The plot of the film seems simple and clear, but the background factors contained in it and the emotions of the characters reflected in it make people feel a lot. Only the voice of the little girl's father appeared throughout the whole process, but he had a strong sense of presence all the time. This setting invisibly reflected the status of Iranian men. But in the later episodes, there is no difference in gender status, only the beauty of human nature. The elder brother sincerely helped her convince her mother to buy goldfish, and the snake charmer also sincerely returned the money to her. To help her find money, the owner of the goldfish shop also kept his word, and even asked her to take the fish first, and then send the money back when she came back. The beginning of the story is a poor family, and the documentary-style lens directly shows the hardships of life in front of us, but the development and end of the story are not suffering, but the poor people live a life full of hope with goodwill, in a poor environment. The beauty is more precious!
At the end of the film, the boy who sells balloons sits on the sewer with a white balloon. He looks at the backs of his brothers and sisters leaving, probably because he is envious of them. Maybe the world is beautiful, as simple as in the movie, but we think it is too complicated.
