I couldn't read this novel after reading it a few times before. Watching the movie directly feels like reading the introduction to the story.
The actors are really not good-looking, and the background is always foggy. With admiration for the original book, I spent all day reading it.
Many films have been made in that dark, damp and vast English highland, and this scene can feel a kind of savage and reserved temperament as soon as it comes out.
The mind is overwhelmed by the intricate stories, but this kind of script is bitter and the performance is emotionless, there will be a big gap. But it should be the same when such serious and depressing bitterness novels look like.
After reading it in general, I wondered whether classical novels must be made into classic TV series. I feel that it is not as enjoyable as the movies made by Quentin's bloody stories. Novels and movies are not the same thing.
Mr Maugham is said to have approved of his articles being put on the screen. But he was because the people who watched the drama at that time were high-ranking people in society, and he needed to be one of them. Fortunately, the story is not his to act.
Of course, stories are stories, and art is much more than stories.
