You can change some things in life, but not in death

Some conversations between the little boy David and his friend John in the movie made me pause the movie for a long time to think.
David naturally said a sentence in the face of all day fear life: I don't want to live anymore.
His friend David warned him: Do not say this sentence in the future.
David asked: Why can't it be said? Anyway, there is no good thing, what's the point of living.
John replied: You can change some things in life, but not in death. So you have to try to live no matter what. (Because I once had the idea that life is not very interesting.)

Even though he was hurt, he was also surrounded by terrible memories of the hurt, so he was always afraid and couldn't believe anyone. And when he tried to open his heart, every time he opened his heart to believe in people, he got a lot of help.

At the girl he saved, he dared to ask her where Denmark was. At the girl's place, he knew where he was going and what countries he had to go through to get to Denmark.

At Sophie's place, he slowly dropped his guard and learned to trust himself to be safe, and despite his fears the moment he met the police at church, he bravely greeted him and made sure he was safe. Moreover, he went to the bookstore with an open heart. If he was still afraid, he would not go to the bookstore. Finally in the bookstore, he believed Sophie, and he gave Sophie his documents. Finally got in touch with her mother so quickly.

No matter how much pain we go through, we still have to believe that most people in the world are good people.

Impressed by the child's strength and perseverance!

I Am David quotes

  • David: I wish I were dead!

Johannes: Don't say that. Don't even think it.

David: Why not? There's nothing good here! What's the point of even staying alive?

Johannes: Because if you're alive you can change things. If you're dead you can't. Do whatever you can to stay alive, no matter what! Go.

Title Card: In the years after World War II, many people in Eastern Europe were sent to forced labor camps for disagreeing with their new governments. Because of this, families were torn apart. Life in these camps was very harsh, and escape was not an option. And yet, for one boy named David, it was his only hope...

The Man: Are you listening to me? You must escape from here tonight. It's your only chance to stay alive. If you follow my instructions and make it out of the camp. Travel when it's dark to free Bulgaria so you won't be seen. They'll be everywhere waiting to arrest you. And unless you're very careful, you'll be caught. If you make it across the border, you must get the envelope to Denmark. First, head south to Selonika, and hide in a ship that's going to Italy. When you arrive there, travel north as far as you can. Your journey will be long and it may be impossible, but you must get this envelope to the authorities in Denmark. You must not open it. If anyone sees its contents before you get there you'll end up back here. Do you understand?

The Man: I know you've lived in this camp your entire life, but there is a world outside it. However, it's a very dangerous world. Trust no one.
