"Living can change things, and when you die, there is nothing."
So, in order to survive, David started a life of escape and romance with the faith given by his close friend John.
Cross-border travel from Croatia to Denmark, Eastern Europe to Northern Europe. Things that ordinary people can't imagine, but in a child's deep, staggering, confused, and firm footsteps, it spreads recklessly as if leading to the end of the world.
It was originally for the escape of life, but in the poems and paintings, a feeling called romance was imprinted in David's heart.
So, together with David, we forgot the darkness and loneliness of the plains in the middle of the night; we climbed over the isolation of freedom by the high fence together; Looking back again, the childlike David was playing in the pool with a heartbeat (I think this is the most beautiful scene in the film, hehe); the endless sunflower fields under the sun; the girl Maria, who is more beautiful and kind than an angel; And the old man Sophie who knows how to fill the wounds with optimism. Everything, just smile, no more sadness.
From this end of the map to the other, David is wandering, searching, traveling, and growing.
His best friend John taught him to believe in himself; sailor Robert taught him to understand life and communication; old women and young couples taught him to exchange for equal value; young girl Maria taught him his first taste of ambiguous heartbeats and the beauty of family; old man Sophie It taught him to trust each other and keep smiling. A journey on the map, a journey on the road of life.
The planner of the trip, the officer in the labor camp. Because of the order, the family of childhood sweethearts is torn apart. Because of redemption, a map was drawn and a trip was arranged. The arrival of David's destination was also a cleansing of his sinful soul.
I always see it in my dreams, that familiar yet unfamiliar face, close yet far away. Every time I touch it, my dream wakes up to pieces.
In a book "The Sorrows of Travel", David was surprised to find that he, like the author, was walking alone in this disastrous world. The author's face is looming in his mind. A lightning-like recovery, a memory that has been oppressed to the point of withering. So, the destination of the trip: Denmark on the other side. That is, the eternal and timeless warm harbor has long been forgotten.
"The tomato-covered map of Italy stolen from the ship is still crumpled in his pocket; will fired Robert start anew with the pearl-handled knife I traded for him; beautiful Maria , can you feel the warmth I leave behind??? That is my prayer to Santa Maria; the peaceful grandma Sophie, I don't look like the self in the portrait anymore, welcome, I will definitely come back to see You..."
Another translation of the film adds "Send a Letter to Copenhagen". Letter is the message of life; Copenhagen is the happiness at the end of the map; and David is the angel who transmits light. Passing on the last happiness that belongs to you.
From Croatia to Denmark, from the low point of life to the turning point, once in a lifetime, once in a lifetime -- a journey on a map that never stops.
