I haven't seen a movie that moved me for a while, and I haven't seen a movie that made me want to watch a second time. Until the other day I watched "Send a Letter to Copenhagen". It's just that when I want to write something, all kinds of thoughts and feelings surface like many blisters, and I don't know where to start.
It's like the journey of life, a long journey, a lot to go through. A journey of seeking, experiencing and embodying love, freedom, and trust.
The male protagonist David is a boy in his teens. His face left a deep impression on me. As a female painter in the film said, his face can be seen to be kind, smart, and very handsome, but very serious. With age disproportionate loss and grief, and a good illustration of childhood experiences and life, the film crew who picked the character cast a good actor with a talking face.
About kindness. David grew up in a concentration camp in Bulgaria, and saw too much about the cruelty and horror of people. Before escaping from the concentration camp, he was also warned by others: Never trust anyone. However, his heart was still kind, and he was not completely engulfed by the darkness of human nature. When he went to rescue Mary trapped in the fire, when he silently asked St. Elizabeth to bless Mary, his kindness was touching. - In the movie, David says that he is not worthy of accepting those beautiful things. I'd say you're totally worthy of the good stuff, whether it's Shakespeare's sonnets, or your favorite book.
About prayer. David got lost in a forest, his compass was broken, he wanted to go north to Denmark, but now he was stuck in the forest of Italy, lying helplessly on the ground looking at the tall trees, suddenly remembered that the baker sent him One of his portraits of St. Elizabeth, the baker told him that St. Elizabeth would help those in need, David prayed devoutly to Elizabeth to get him out of this forest, he was going to Denmark. After praying, he found that the tree he was looking at happened to have many branches. He climbed up to the tree and looked around. It turned out that he was already at the edge of the forest! When I think about it sincerely, I am moved.
About beauty and destiny. Yes, there is another new world: free, beautiful. Different from the cruelty and oppression between people, different from the world of bondage and numbness, people are destined to be liberated, to escape from that world, and to enjoy love, freedom and trust. That new world, to David, was Denmark, it was mother, it was escaping from the concentration camps. For this purpose, I can endure the wind and rain, can endure the pursuit and beating of the police, can endure hunger, can travel long distances, just for the beautiful world in my heart. In fact, when he wanted to escape from the concentration camp, his life had already prepared everything, and the result had already appeared, just waiting for him to experience it and show it. How wonderful is fate, everything is so seamless, it can be said in four words: there is no danger. Destiny is not smooth sailing, but as long as you enter that world, as long as you go on, everything will be fine and peaceful. David has nothing, no money, no experience or knowledge, and he doesn't even know how to use a knife and fork, but along the way, although someone almost reported him to the police, he was always helped. Someone just called him to go for gas, gave him some tips, and he had money to buy bread, and when he was smuggling, he happened to meet a fairly good sailor, and then they met again in Italy, gave him a ride to Milan, and later met a sailor. The kind-hearted female painter grandma took him across the border into Switzerland, and finally made him understand how to trust others and how to truly open up to himself. As written in the movie poster: Believe in the power to change your destiny. That power is powerful and transcendent, as long as it is fully trusted.
It is worth mentioning, by the way, that the soundtrack of the film is beautiful, soothing and holy, and it blends well with the situation in the film. The natural scenery in the movie is very beautiful, the magnificent blue bay by the sea in Italy, the lush forests in Italy, the endless golden sunflowers, the golden wheat fields along the road, the small villages in Switzerland, the silent mountains and the small towns in Switzerland. Tranquility and serenity, although David is fleeing and frightened, he is still attracted when he sees the beauty of these magnificent nature, no matter what the situation, one cannot be indifferent to the beauty around him. Nothing lasts forever, why let a moment of hardship cover your sky?
