As an exploratory theme, "From the Abyss" does not focus on the characters and the adventure process. The abyss - the face of the world and the rules behind it - is the real protagonist. Therefore, although the painting style of this work is full of childlike healing, the author examines everything with a calm and almost cold gaze.
The protagonist of the story is a twelve or thirteen-year-old child, full of love and courage, but the world does not have much warmth for children. The teacher of the orphanage controls the children with an attitude similar to that of the employees. Li Ke's room is a former torture room. During the daily exploration, you will encounter the bones of prayers. No one thinks that children should be isolated from these realistic and cruel topics. So despite the lightheartedness of the story before going down the cave, despite the bright, green abyss, there is a grim tone as vast and silent as the "unknown."
At the same time, the author does not render horror and nothingness at all. Looking down at the abyss from the sky, a slender waterfall hangs down from the cloud-filled hole, and the darkness of the abyss reflects the bright light. On this mountain pass like a volcanic lake, the buildings of the giant cave town are closely stacked. The inner circle spreads vertically to the bottom of the cave, often extending elegantly. The outer circle surrounds the vast sea, and ships are constantly passing by. Here, the first thing to wake up is to look at the abyss. Exploration is the most vibrant career, survival, yearning, and belief.
Once you step into the abyss, human values and rules become insignificant, and the only thing that can support the protagonist is the spirit of survival and exploration. It is this spirit and the vast unknown that together constitute the core tension of the whole work.
After entering the cave, the mentality of the characters is good, but the fear that the author conveys to the audience keeps adding up. Climbing will bear the setting of the curse, so that every step of the protagonist cannot be turned back. The setting that the creatures who have entered the "Cage of Exemption from the Curse" will climb to the center of the cave also casts a strange and terrifying atmosphere on Li Ke's yearning for the abyss.
In contrast, as a re-set story, all the obstacles and methods of overcoming the protagonist are understandable. Therefore, a situation without any hope within the rules was suddenly thrown out on the fourth floor—Reg, who has always been kind and gentle, watched Rico’s life go by and the helpless despair was prolonged as much as possible, and was forced to start cutting Rico’s arm— Even if the audience knows that they will be mechanically serene, they will still be shocked by the plot of this psychological limit. After that, it is understandable how dark and profound Nanqi's background is, which leads the audience to actively think about the cost of exploration and the boundaries of the story.
The 13 episodes of the first season (nearly 16 episodes in length) have completed the laying of the two-level tone of sunshine and cruelty. In the environment of heavy character design and heavy labeling, it is rare to solidly achieve an exploration sci-fi story. the way it should be. On this basis, you can master the intimate and romantic sense of fantasy fairy tale, which brings amazing beauty and vitality to the story.
Personal evaluation 8.5, worth a look. A score of 8 is because it can lead to discussions on exploration, cost, and the progress and destiny of human collectives on the basis of harmony and integrity, and a score of 8.5 is because it also complements the style of painting and the spiritual core.
