Last year, the Russian drama "Evgeny Onegin", which won a lot of praise at the Wuzhen Theatre Festival, was introduced to China this year, and tickets were bought early. Because the reviews were super good and it was an adaptation of Pushkin's famous novel, I thought of doing some homework in advance. First, I attended the early lectures at Shanghai Cultural Plaza, and then I read the original novel, and only after I had a certain understanding of the story and characters did I enter the theater.

The screenwriter obviously doesn't know how to choose, and the original text is spoken through the mouth of the narrator, not to mention whether the Chinese audience can feel the beauty of Pushkin's poetry. Not poetry recitation. In the portrayal of the protagonist, the hero Onegin has too little space, is wretched and unattractive, and the heroine Tatyana is too lively, not as melancholy, shy and timid as a deer in the forest as described in the original book. In the end, it became a big heroine growth drama where Tatyana exposed the scumbag Onegin. This. . Was it really Pushkin's original intention?
I'm really not satisfied. After doing so much homework, I already have feelings for this work, and the drama I see is like this. Then I found this movie.
It's so good, I can't find the right words to praise it.
All trade-offs and additions to the original work are appropriate.

This is a very clever adaptation. In the original text of the novel, when Tatyana wrote the letter, the content of the letter appeared, but the film covered up the content of the letter first, and the audience would be curious as to how the hot words could make Onegin panic when they saw it for the first time. He threw the letter into the fireplace (this scene is also a wonderful adaptation), but then he felt that it was too rude to do so, and quickly rescued the letter from the fireplace. I don't think he read the letter again until Onegin rejected Tatyana until he met her again in St. Petersburg. Tatyana is different from ordinary country girls, and Onegin doesn't have the heart to play with her feelings, but in general he doesn't care about this girl who is simply fascinated by him. So it is reasonable for Onegin to read the letter a second time more carefully than the first, and the original text of the letter appears only the second time. When Onegin reopened the letter, the audience suddenly realized that the girl was so brave and sincere.
6. The Tatyana sisters' divination. The fortune teller in the movie tells them you'll both marry soldiers. But in the original book, Tatyana did not dare to see the ending of her own destiny. The ending of the two sisters was hinted in advance in the movie.
7. On Tatyana's name day, Olga told Lenski that Onegin was pursuing her and offered to invite Onegin to dance. The original text is that Tatyana and Lenski's vain fiancée Olga, who couldn't bear the sullenness at the banquet, took the initiative to invite Olga to dance out of revenge, and they kept saying compliments to her. The adaptation of the film does beautify the Onegin in the original book, making his wanton behavior more excusable.
8. On the day of the duel between Lenski and Onegin, Onegin first violated the duel procedure and directly asked Lenski if it was really necessary to do so? Then during the duel, Lenski shot first and missed Onegin, Onegin shot again, and Lenski died. This part is quite different from the original text. The original Onegin did not express in front of Lensky whether he could cancel the duel. Lensky wrote the gauntlet, and Onegin accepted it decisively, but at the same time he accepted it for himself. I deeply regret my actions at the ball. In the real duel, Onegin shot first, killing him with one shot. This film is also an adaptation that glorifies Onegin.
9. There isn't much of Tatyana's parents in the movie, only when Olga married the officer, Tatyana's mother said that Olga was a real woman like her, explaining that Tatyana's mother didn't love her. her father. A clever take on the original.
10. After Onegin left the village, Tatyana went to his house, flipped through his books, and saw a small painting of her by Onegin. In the original book, Tatyana recognized Onegin as a melancholy and dangerous eccentric through Onegin's annotations in the book. We already know that the film does glorify Onegin's character, and accepting that fact would understand such an adaptation. And portraits are more suitable for visual expression than words.
11. Tatyana's mother took her to her cousin's house in St. Petersburg for her marriage. The aunt said to Tatyana that you have become a burden to your mother now, and you should live in your husband's house with peace of mind. Friendship is already a must. Very good, then if you want love, go ahead and develop an extramarital affair. Tatyana said that if I get married, I will be loyal to my husband. Very interesting dialogue that also hints at Tatyana's final choice.
12. Onegin wrote a love letter to Tatyana, and Tatyana read it and threw it into the fireplace.
