The fourth unit of the French Film Festival "Wild Youth" has three films directed by Leo Carax. I don't know this person.
Before the screening, the director said a few words on the stage. A small French man with messy hair and blurred eyes looked like a French director.
"Boy Meets Girl" and "Bad Blood" are both films directed by Karax in his 20s. "Boy Meets Girl" is a stream-of-consciousness movie, you can't see the obvious story shape and plot, only the shots, narration and music that change according to the director's consciousness. I do not understand. And I estimate that more than 50% of people don't understand it. Because of the sudden break for a few minutes in the middle, a lot of people said, "This is the end? What the hell!" I thought it was definitely endless, so I knew I shouldn't be the slowest. I think Karax is describing a love, a love like a dream, a theatrical parting and a chance encounter, an unrestrained passion and a bloody pain. The scene where the heroine dances alone in the room is very expressive, as well as the final scene. Our lives seem to happen in that room with transparent walls, we see the lives and loves of others in solitude, we dance alone, and in moments of emptiness, we think about death. The ending is interesting, the girl wants to kill herself, but ends up dying in the boy's embrace, after all, that's what love is.
"Bad Blood" is still about love. I think. The whole film unfolds like a dream, on a dark street, in a dark carriage, in a dark room, and love suddenly comes out in the middle. The figure that floated by like a giant is a memory that cannot be erased from the depths of our hearts. Juliette Binoche performed well in the film, her inner temperament coincides with the role of anna, and Karask is very good at choosing actors.
The most memorable scene in the film is when Bundy turns on the radio and it's playing David Bowie's modern love, and during the music, Bundy starts running down the street, and this scene reminds me of the heroine in Boy Meets Girl in the room. The solo dance, so expressive with tension, fully demonstrates the young Karax's talent and aura in using the language of the camera.
Karax's love does not need to be expressed in stories and tight plots. In "Boy Meets Girl", he completely abandoned the storytelling technique, and completely changed the scenes and stage themes as he wanted. There are many scenes that remind me of "The Chef Who Thieves Him" His Wife Her Lover", the application of dramatic scenes makes the film more magical. Two years later, Karask filmed "Bad Blood". This time, based on the former, it started a slightly controlled performance. "Bad Blood" is more refined and smooth than "Boy Meets Girl". If "Boy Meets Girl" is taken Compared to the works of Marco Chagall, "Bad Blood" is closer to Monet's paintings. The love that happens in a quiet night is like a water lily, which opens brightly in the moonlight.
In both films, Davie Bowie's music is there, and that's what excites me. This Brit-rock pioneer really influenced the whole of Europe.
