The title of "Miss Violence" is too amazing. The father is too excited to prepare the eleventh birthday banquet for his daughter. And our birthday star, standing on the balcony, looked at the family who were busy preparing food in the house, and then looked at the outside world, with a smile on his face for the first time, and then jumped off the building to his death. Despite all the signs of what was about to happen to this seemingly harmonious family, it wasn't expected that it would come so quickly and so violently.
The film is based on real events in Greece, and the director will only dare to launch it after a year of investigation. How much dirt can a seemingly harmonious family hide: incest, domestic violence, child prostitutes, cold violence, etc. are all domestic ugliness that no one dares to see. The law will not help unless it reaches the level of shocking, and the media will not pay attention until it reaches the level of public anger. , not to the extent of harming their own interests, friends will not reprimand them. Until the father stretched his claws to his granddaughter (daughter) who was less than ten years old, and the next one to suffer would be his grandson (son), the unbearable wife finally stabbed her husband with a sharp knife, which did not change the faces of the children. A smile that no longer exists.
In general, when watching a movie, the audience will always see the innermost side of an ordinary family, or a cowardly husband who is outside at home, or a wife who is skillful and slutty at home, or the sensitive and fragile heart of a rebellious teenager, etc. In short, it is the camera. When it comes to family, all the truth will be exposed on the screen. However, "Miss Violence" does the opposite. From the beginning to the end, the director's perspective is like those two public servants who came to the house to review. They can't see the heavy punching and kicking, and can't hear the swearing words. The audience only had the wounds that the powder could not hide and the abnormal phenomenon of the children who had heard about it. In this home, everyone is acting, gaining safety with obedience and resisting with the fewest words. "Children are always silent and well-behaved at home", this is the result of the father's rhetoric and even proud of the teacher's education.
It is precisely because the family in front of the camera is too oppressive but unable to correct mistakes, when the only violence in the film occurs: the little daughter (born by the father who raped the daughter) is given to two men as a prostitute for gang rape and then raped by her father. On the contrary, it seems a little abrupt, so that the killing of the father, the family leader, should be the most explosive scene but ended flatly, making the whole film feel top-heavy.
There is no difference between a child who has grown up under the perverted norms set by his father and an adult who has accepted some seemingly normal but decadent norms in society, resisting with silence and sinking in silence.
The film won the Best Director and Best Actor Awards at the 70th Venice Film Festival.
