The literary drama is poor, the martial arts is average.
The action scenes still have a high level of Korean film industry, at least three stars, but the literary drama pulls the hips and deducts one star.
The long and redundant old problem of Korean movies has not changed. The difference between literary and drama is that the rhythm is too slow and there is too much waste.
And the actor's disastrous acting is even more embarrassing.
After watching Parasite and Itaewon, the performance of the lead actor is actually very natural, and there are not so many winking and coercive routines. This is obviously not the actor's fault, but only obeys the director's arrangement.
When it comes to rhythm and length, I believe that even for an audience of sci-fi/super-English films who have never been exposed to similar themes, it is extremely tedious and uninteresting.
In 2020, most moviegoers are already familiar with this drama of human experimentation/revenge of survivors, and it can even be said to be a bad street, so there is no need to narrate in such a ramble and covertly.
However, the director's narrative methods have not kept pace with the times at all.
The simplest example, the relevant paragraphs of the heroine's friend, all deletions will not have any effect on the audience's understanding of the plot .
For the sake of her mother's illness and her own physical condition, the heroine must participate in talent shows to seduce the power of the company in reverse.
In other words, it doesn't matter if there is a plot of her friend or not. This character and its related plot have no essential driving effect on the main line.
"Spider-Man" sets the role of basic friends, which is an old way of Marvel, adding some light condiments to the main film;
"Captain America" sets up a role as a base friend because they really have a role.
If it is said that in order to reflect the human side of the "witch", it is necessary to arrange a good friend, but she already has adoptive parents, and she has a lot of ink, especially taking medicine for her mother, which can fully reflect the humanization of the heroine, so the girlfriend and her police officers The plot of the father is more repetitive and cumbersome.
What does it mean to keep pace with the times? Taking into account the background of the times and the audience's reading volume, appropriate choices and integration of the storyline are made.
If the background of the era is earlier, you can replace it with a modern background and make corresponding modifications: for example, the family background of "The Color of the Stars" is very good, although the shooting is not good;
If the storyline is earlier, you can keep the core unchanged and integrate into the background of the corresponding era: such as the case of the taxi driver in "Sherlock".
Moreover, the main story line of this film is actually quite simple, so there is really no choice in making it like this:
Many years ago, the human body modification project of a certain laboratory was a great success in the second generation.
Their first generation of modified people is mainly limited to brain modification, and the experimental samples include adults, and there may even be sequelae.
The second generation of modified human beings are multiple transformations of genes and brains, and children have strong adaptability, so they are better human weapons if they are started from an early age.
However, the company's executives were worried that the combat power was too strong to control, and ordered the direct destruction of this batch of reformers.
As the strongest and most successful product among them, the heroine fought with the first-generation transformants who came to destroy, some of the second-generation transformants who defected, and the guards, and successfully escaped.
Among them, a small number of 2-generation transformed people, (probably) Dr. Bai thought that they were useful, plus their "loyalty and controllable", stayed, and the rest were all killed.
The heroine's escape destination was chosen by the family of the bereaved architect who had consulted the information a long time ago. Sure enough, it was successfully adopted.
Over the years, the adoptive mother suffered from Alzheimer's disease, and even if her superpower was deliberately suppressed and not used as much as possible, it still caused a strong burden on the brain, so that her lifespan was only 1-3 months.
The heroine knows that Dr. Bai is an expert in brain research, and there may be a way; and the company has strong financial and material resources, maybe its research institute will have corresponding drugs. However, the company's secrecy is too good, and the heroine's active search can never be found.
In order to repay her kindness to her adoptive mother, her health, and her blood revenge in her early years, the heroine chose to take the initiative to participate in talent show exposure and reverse fishing.
Fish caught.
As the creator, Dr. Bai's position is biased towards "doves", and he hopes to send a few second-generation reformers to capture the heroine and control it with drugs, so as to realize the use. After all, it is his own work, and he can keep it if he can;
However, the first-generation man with scars who arrested the female protagonist back then pursued the company's tough "purging" policy. He disliked the second-generation reformers who were fundamentally (genetically) different from others, and resolutely punished them. Elimination is a "hawk" position.
The conflict was completely intensified after the heroine was caught in the laboratory and injected with brain repair drugs for 1 month. The three-way melee of the doves and hawks heroines.
In the end, the heroine got the medicine and set the laboratory on fire.
This drug can only maintain the heroine's condition continuously, and cannot completely cure it. The cure requires a bone marrow transplant of a relative, and Dr. Bai has died in the melee.
Therefore, she gave most of the medicine to her adoptive father, and took a small part of her own to embark on the road of finding a cure for her own problems.
In the end, relying on her own efforts, she found Dr. Bai's sister.
During the conversation, because she was worried that she would take action against Dr. Bai's sister, a suspected reformer, the so-called "daughter" of Dr. Bai's sister, appeared behind her.
To be continued.
As for a sci-fi action movie, as long as the action is fast and fierce, the editing is fast and sharp, and the narrative rhythm is fast and tense, it will be successful.
Such a simple and clear main line is dragged down by this hip-pulling narrative, resulting in a serious shortage of action scenes in the second half, anticlimactic, and hastily.
In short, it's not fun enough to play, take off your pants and watch this.
Get rid of those boring and lengthy foreshadowing, and give some more writing to the battle scene, I believe the score will be much better.
But with this level of narration, whether the director can still pull in the investment to make a second film, I don't think so.
