John and Ella are an old couple. Ella is 80 years old and John is older. Ella is seriously ill and needs to be hospitalized. Will the two people who have been together for decades be separated from now on?
The two suddenly ran away from home without notifying their sons and daughters, driving their old RV along the East Coast Highway 1, all the way south from Massachusetts to the southernmost island of Key West, Florida. It was 40 years ago when they took their children on a trip to Hemingway's house.
John, a retired literature professor, loved Hemingway. He has Alzheimer's disease and can't remember many things, even the names of his son and daughter. He drove the car according to his wife's instructions, and read Hemingway's short stories every time he got to the campsite, watching but weeping. He said he saw the last word but could not remember the beginning of the novel.
Ella took medicine all the way, but she was able to maintain her condition. There was nothing unusual. She was still busy and busy, taking care of her amnesiac and forgetful husband. She said that John's reticence over the years has spared her a lot of embarrassing moments when she has nothing to say.
But there were times when it annoyed her. At a gas station, she went to the small supermarket to make a phone call, and suddenly saw John filling up the gas, he left her and drove away. She hurriedly threw down the phone and yelled to get out, but she couldn't catch up. A motorcycle party with a beard in leather jackets and trousers next to her was chasing her from behind. John was very strange when he saw it, saying what are you doing so dangerously on a motorcycle? He simply forgot that his wife was supposed to be in the car.
The most annoying is this time. In the evening, John got up, sat on the bed and pulled Ella, and asked: Did you see Ella? where is she? Ella said, I'm right here. John is sure, no, you're not Ella, Ella is my love, twenty-two, with long blond hair, and a beauty.
Ella was stunned. She slowly got up, walked silently out of the car, and sat on a camp chair weeping. Her husband can't even remember her.
John also walked slowly and looked at her carefully, are you really Ella? Ella said bluntly, of course. She also looked at John and asked provocatively, who are you? John hurriedly said, it's me, John. Ella said, you are not, my John is a young teacher, handsome and knowledgeable. I want him back. I want him back.
This is the movie "Love Before Memories Die" released in 2018. Seeing this brought tears to my eyes.
Whether one day, we will be too old to lose our memory, too old to forget our children, forget our wife, and forget everything now. Perhaps, this is not amnesia. After all, those young and beautiful images have not disappeared, but have become more profound.
