love before the memory fades

It can be said to be a relatively special road movie, warm, slow and trivial. The two old people are like leisure seekers in an antique RV, where everything is broken and needs to be repaired, but they spend their holidays in joy, company, and self-deprecation. This story gave me the courage to face old age and illness, to face years of love, and to admire John and Ella for holding hands and arguing. I hope to revisit this film many years from now, so that I too have the courage to face or decide where I come and go. The movie pays homage to Hemingway. John looks like Hemingway. He even hopes that one day he can kill himself like Hemingway when his condition deteriorates.

Will Spencer: I wanted to vomit.

Ella Spencer: No, in the universe. The biggest whore in the whole universe.

    [hangs up]

    Will Spencer: So what's happening?

    Jane Spencer: Nothing. Everything's fine.

    Lillian: But where are they?

Jane Spencer: I have no idea, but Mom seems very... energized. And she sends her love to you, Lillian.

    Lillian: Isn't that sweet...
