The film is set in a surreal world full of shadows and grays, and the protagonists of the plot are two unnamed boys (voiced by Jinhachi Nezu) and a girl (voiced by Mako Hyouto). The girl carries a mysterious egg with her, and she spends a lot of time collecting bottles and handicrafts in a Gothic dead city. A boy with a cross-shaped weapon on his back also came to this town one day with a mysterious machine. At the same time, the figure of the giant coelacanth appeared above the town, and the people in the city also came to life in groups and began to hunt these fish with long spears. In the girl's giant cave-like bottle, it is like a shelter, and there are collections in it. The boy waited for the girl to fall asleep and broke the mysterious egg. The girl was very angry and followed the boy who had left. In the end, the girl sank into the valley and died, and the bubbles spit out of her mouth finally turned into eggs.
In the film, there is clearly enough time to make the settings clearer, but Mamoru Oshii refused to do so, allowing the camera to spend a lot of walking, repeatedly filming the water that gradually engulfs the city, the rushing or silent flow, various kinds of scenes. Incomplete interpretation of symbols. The two protagonists have been silently facing each other for an unreasonable long time, sliding towards destruction in the dullness, which is really the performance of supervising the willful. Silence and monotony are deliberately created by the supervisor, intending to achieve a mysterious religious effect, and leave blank for the sake of blank. The religious allegory sketch that could have been completed in 10 minutes was pulled for more than an hour, so that the audience's completion function could be fully mobilized, and various excessive interpretations were added to this uncomplicated film. In my opinion, Mamoru Oshii in this film pretends to be procrastinating, and cunningly uses the audience's mood to explain the work to give himself gold, which is pure pretense. If there are audiences who are willing to buy his account, he should have one and be grateful. It is ridiculous that he is a box office poison to complain that the environment is not generous enough, and that he cannot get a job for several years.
Some people may say that "Angel's Egg" is an art film, dull. Art films are mostly the reactions of supervisors' personal thoughts and ideas, but because of this, art films put forward higher requirements for supervisors' expressive abilities. Taking the thought in "Angel's Egg" as an example, it is actually highly targeted and fragmented: it can be summed up in one sentence or one sentence, and it lacks systematicness and universality - which also determines the art of art. The film mostly focuses on the field of short films, it is just a small fable, there is no more content to talk about, it is a representative art film

Angel's Egg quotes

  • Boy: I've seen a tree like this somewere... When was it? So long ago that I've forgotten... Under a sky where the clouds made sound as they moved. The black horizon swelled and from it grew a huge tree. It sucked the life from the ground... And it's pulsing branches reached up, as if to grasp something...

  • Boy: Maybe you, I and the fish only exist in the memory of a person who is long gone. Maybe no one really exists and it's only raining outside.
