Talk about True Detective S03E03: Trying side by side again today

When I look at your eyes, the warmth is turned on, and the dream in my heart has not changed at all

Scientists believe that there are infinitely many dimensions beyond us. Einstein said that the past, present and future are nothing but an ongoing illusion.

1. In this episode, the perspective of middle-aged Roland who received a forensic question and answer in 1990 was added, replacing the forensic question and answer of Wayne in the previous two episodes. The narrative of the play not only has three timelines, but also a combination of dual perspectives. Like a grapefruit, it is cut horizontally into three, and then vertically split into two.

The forensics of Roland in '90 occurred five days after the forensics of Wayne, on May 17, 1990. The documentary-style subtitle introduction shows that Roland has been promoted to deputy chief of the police station. On the other hand, Wayne not only did not rise, but sank. This result cannot be separated from the influence of the Purcell case.

The question and answer between Roland and the investigator formed a splicing and supplement to Wayne's remarks. Before Wayne talked about the letter, Roland continued to talk about the letter.

2. Roland lit a cigarette and the time went back to 80 years. Wayne was particularly dissatisfied with the bounty notice issued by the children's charity, because he was not consulted on such a thing, and like the previous Halloween roadmap, it would cause an explosion of spam and interfere with the investigation.

In a state where others have no confidence, Wayne firmly believes that Julie is alive.

3. Cut to 1990. Like Wayne, Roland concealed some details of the investigation because they did not follow the blind deployment of their superiors, and privately took actions that only they themselves knew, such as extorting a confession from pedophile Ted.

4. Roland in 1990 mentioned Wayne's memory, and the timeline was cut to 15 years. Wayne was sent to the hospital by his son Henry for examination because of his sleepwalking driving. Old Wayne refuses to admit his memory loss. He is like a veteran with a withered body but still strong will. Many plots throughout the play shape Wayne's characteristics.

Wayne mentioned a word "Rat" in Henry's words, which was mentioned in the first episode when Wayne was fighting with Roland. Wayne said that he hated "rat". "Rat" as a noun is "rat", which is extended to "traitor", and when transformed into a verb, it means "inform" and "betrayal". There is reason to suspect that, in the Purcell case in '80, Wayne experienced what he thought was some kind of betrayal.

In 5 and 90, Wayne informed Emilia that Julie was alive, and the two drove to the pharmacy where Julie's fingerprints appeared.

During the conversation, it was known that Wayne had his future ruined because of the Purcell case, and he had not taken up a major case since then.

He was forced to stay away from the case while his wife went deeper and deeper, which left him emotionally depressed. The atmosphere of the conversation between the husband and wife shows that they have begun to "itch". But Emilia's attitude is clear, she will not give up her attention to the Purcell case.

The sentence of going to the hotel to drink and have sex all night is ironic, she speaks with her lips parted, and both of them use a weak "could" because they have no intention of having fun, and their minds are on the case. .

The two began to talk about the case. If Wayne wanted to find out Julie's whereabouts, he had to talk to the police where the pharmacy was located, but since he had been forced to stay away from the case, participating in the openness might make him even the police. No.

Emilia excitedly expressed her desire to take the initiative in the case, and Wayne questioned her ability to do so, but he tacitly acquiesced to his wife because there was no other way.

6. Cut back to 80 years, Wayne and Roland talking. He had a strong sense that someone was watching their every move. They decided to go back to the origin of the crime, why should the child lie to the parent?

7. Switching to 1990, Roland accused the power interference agency represented by the opposite two because Wayne was suppressed because of the investigation of the case. It is conceivable that the more Wayne pursues the truth, the more he will offend the high-ranking officials.

8. Cut back to 80 years, and the two partners went to the school to visit the child with a dog and the Purcell couple. They found a new situation, that is, William and Julie are likely to often play with an adult after school. . That said, William often lied to his father and then took his sister to play somewhere, and the behavior on the afternoon they disappeared was the norm.

The two partners entered the room for a second search. At this time, the camera cryptically explained that next to Lucy, there was Margaret, a neighbor in the community.

As Wayne searches Julie's room, Lucy peeks by, as if to prevent him from finding something.

Roland found a topographic map in William's room, which was a clue to the book on William's desk.

Wayne finds a handbag in Julie's room full of princess dolls that girls love.

Wayne dug out another pile of notes from Julie's book, saying "It's okay", "Don't listen", "I'll protect you". The handwriting on the note looked very childish, like it was written by a child.

At the same time, the pattern on the book that turned out the note may also be a clue left by the screenwriter. It seems to be painted with a bunch of flowers (like the hands of a straw doll) and a crown. This may have been drawn by Julie following a toy.

And the handbag containing the doll had the "Hoyt Foods" logo on it, and Lucy admitted that she worked there as a worker. Are these dolls related to Lucy? Margaret and Lucy looked at each other frequently. Are they also colleagues at work? What are they hiding?

9. Cut to the 1990s, Roland's words show that the two were gradually alienated because of the Purcell case. In the 1990s, the two had not been in contact for a long time.

10. At the same time as Roland's testimony in 1990, Wayne took his two children to the mall for shopping. The conversations between Wayne and the kids reflect that he is old-school and even stubborn.

Contrasting with the state of the family man Wayne is Emilia, who is beautifully investigating the case. She checked Julie's fingerprints at the local Salisor police station at the pharmacy.

I think we need to pay attention to Emilia's line, to Wayne and to the police, she asks twice "did Julie's fingerprints be found after the drugstore" and determined "if only Julie's was found on the shelf? Fingerprints". When she was convinced that there were only Julie's fingerprints, a slight smile flashed on the corner of her mouth.

Emilia did have some unusual expressions or remarks on several occasions.

At about the 40th minute of the first episode, at the end of the young Wayne's questioning to her, she took the initiative to approach Wayne, exceeding the normal public distance, and asked, "Can you find those children?" The young Wayne said that he would contact him again if something happened. She, she said "Please do." was really too proactive.

At about the 35th minute of the second episode, Emilia found the young Wayne in the bar and looked a little nervous.

At about the 52nd minute of the second episode, the middle-aged Wayne went home after the forensic question and answer. Emilia secretly observed Wayne's expression on the side. She seemed to be eager to know what happened during the forensics.

Emilia was too proactive in intervening in the case, and although she said she wanted to be a writer, her behavior was hard to hide.

In the mall, Wayne suddenly found that his daughter was missing, and he immediately went crazy. This reaction should be related to Julie's disappearance.

11. Cut back to 80 years, and Wayne and Roland found the children's charity that issued the bounty announcement. In the first sentence, the man said:

"We're happy to help, especially when we hear she's a former employee of ours."

Who is "she" referring to? If it's Lucy, it means the charity was founded by Hoyt Foods. If Jolie's disappearance was linked to Hoyt Foods and Children's Charities, the case would be big.

Perhaps the reward notice was deliberately designed to induce intelligence to confuse the police.

Wayne blamed the charity for issuing a bounty notice without the police's consent. The other party said that he had already greeted the county attorney's office, which is to say hello to Gint, the official who made a fuss at the press conference and sent the investigation team to intervene in the case. .

Gent is not necessarily directly connected to the case, but his quest for re-election is likely to be exploited by bad actors.

The receptionist of the charity organization confirmed that the organization was established by Hoyt Foods, and the background of the establishment was that Mr. Hoyt's granddaughter died a few years ago. And this Mr. Hoyt is said to have gone hunting in Africa in mid-October. It's weird.

And this scene deliberately left a clue, which is a large photo on the wall, a woman holding a girl in her arms. Could this girl be Mr. Hoyt's granddaughter?

From Wayne's perspective and words, it can be seen that this fund and the Hoyt Food Processing Factory are closely together.

12. After returning to the police station, Wayne and Roland worked overtime all night to check the newly obtained information.

Wayne said that there are six pieces of paper in total. At this time, we found an obvious feature. There are two colors of paper, one white and one yellow, each with three pieces. The handwriting is as follows:

Don't listen - I'll be here forever - White paper I will always protect you - White paper is fine - Yellow paper I'm fine - Yellow paper good night - Yellow paper

Observe the handwriting on the note, as if it was written by a child, and not all at once.

I'm 80% sure it was a note passed between William and Julie. When they were in their own rooms at night, their parents must have often quarreled. My sister was very scared. My brother drilled a hole in the wall.

It is also because of the broken family and the poor parental relationship that the two children need to look for care and have the opportunity to be taken advantage of by strangers.

Roland said the siblings often go out to play, but not with other children. This is also a clue. Roland wrote on the wall "Secret Friends?" Who gave them toys to play in the woods?

13. This cuts into the scene of Roland's forensics in 1990. Through his narration, ten years ago, their focus turned to three questions, who gave Julie the straw doll, who played games with William, and they were after school. where did it go. Based on these questions, they searched Devil's Den Park again. Roland said they conducted a closed search this time, with only search and rescue personnel involved.

14. Cut back to the 1980s scene. Emilia and some volunteers participated in the search and rescue. Can this be called a closed search? In theory, each of these people nearby is a suspect.

Emilia asked Wayne suspiciously about his search skills, and also mentioned his track record in Vietnam, as if worried about what he might find.

Wayne mentioned the anti-war demonstrations that Emilia had participated in. He said with a sarcastic tone, "It's really interesting. The protests stopped as soon as the draft was over. He criticized the hypocrisy of anti-war people and contrasted with Wayne's toughness. When questioning Woodard, he said that he did not hesitate when he went to the battlefield, and he joined the most dangerous army.

Wayne talks about the poem about time again, and his understanding surprises Emilia (and I believe the audience), showing that he is seriously dyslexic.

After Wayne proposed, the two are finally going to officially date.

15. Wayne in the middle of 1590 was reading the first book written by Emilia in his study. After Emilia came back, the two had a fight. On the one hand, Wayne feels resentful because he is not reused and his wife is like a duck in water; on the other hand, he is very afraid of his daughter's loss in the mall during the day. But in the final analysis, the shadow of the Purcell case ten years ago lingered in his mind and lingered.

But Emilia was intoxicated, and the conflict between the husband and wife deepened because of this old case.

16. The timeline cuts back to 80 years, and Wayne finds important clues in Devil's Den Park.

The first is a few dice among the dead leaves. This discovery echoed Roland's previous words in the office. Roland said to Wayne that "he can't find the dice (clues, clues) in it".

Then he found a tote bag with the boy's toys on the top layer.

At the end is the sharp rock and nearby blood, which Wayne believes is the first scene of William's murder.

And here is the outer edge of the park, a few steps to a small road, there is a house next to it.

The two partners visited the owner of the house. This person actually said that the police station had already interviewed him the next day. Who is this person? The resident gave a damn simple message: white, suit, regular, badge. The white residents were arrogant towards Wayne and called him "niggers" to his face.

Residents said they had seen children playing in the woods in the afternoon a few times before, and they had also seen a brown luxury car parked nearby several times. There was a man and a woman in the car, and the man was a black man. There are countless brown cars in this play, but I think this is the only one that can be associated with luxury cars. But this is the car Wayne and Logan drive.

In fact, since it is a luxury car, we should think about the rich. The richest person in the show is currently the entrepreneur Mr. Hoyt.

17. Cut to 15 years, the female reporter asked the elderly Wayne a question about the serious dereliction of duty in the original investigation:

(1) Some residents in the community have never been interviewed (so far, there is indeed no positive demonstration of the police's comprehensive visit to the community);

(2) There is no record of the brown car in the investigation report (big doubt);

(3) The residents who were questioned said that the police never took notes (Wayne did never take notes, and a dyslexic person should have difficulty writing);

(4) Two weeks before the Purcell incident, a resident reported that a black man in a suit with a scar on his face appeared at the children's play area in Devil's Den Park, but the police ignored it (this may indicate that Wayne and Roland Insufficiently at work, Wayne may have dismissed him for being racially sensitive).

Old Wayne was recalled by the reporter, but what he remembered was the bicycle print, not the brown luxury car.

18. Back in the 1980s, the police had arrived at the scene where the toy was found, and the contents of the handbag were spread out. Inside, there are straw dolls with white hats and white skirts like nuns. Like the straw dolls that were originally discovered, they all have an evil pagan atmosphere.

It suddenly occurred to me that the owner of the food factory went to Africa and his granddaughter died. This may make him believe in some exotic "superpower" evil sect spells in an attempt to bring the dead back to life or bring back the dead.

19. Woodard's already depressed life was affected by the Purcell case. Now his living space is in question, and a group of white parents is besieging him with a bat.

"I have children too", "I have rights", "I fought for you" are useless, malicious prejudice is as ruthless as a club.

20. In 1990, after the forensic interview, Roland came to Tom's house, and the two were obviously friends.

The dialogue between the two is not to solve the problem, and the net production of new doubts.

Tom said that "that guy"'s kid hired Alan to revisit the case. Does "that guy" mean Woodard?

Tom's words also revealed that Lucy died in Las Vegas in 1988.

Tom also revealed in his words that Roland saved him five years ago. It is estimated that Roland rescued him from self-abandonment. But his original words were "pull me out of that hole", and "hole", if it was a real meaning, would be reminiscent of the hole where William's body was found. But listening to the context of the dialogue between the two, it should not be a real reference, but a false reference to some kind of predicament.

There is a cross hanging in Tom's house, and he claims to have believed in God.

The play also specially shows the plot of Tom asking Roland to pray with him. Tom's piety and new look are amazing.

In 21, 2015, the night after an interview with a TV station, Wayne turned on the recording device and recorded the "new" clues he "got" with his voice, so as not to forget it. I didn't hear it in the first article, but he actually recorded the recording at the beginning of the first episode to deal with his severe forgetfulness.

As at the beginning of the first episode, the camera made a close-up of Wayne's pistol again. The pistol was holstered and placed in the drawer. At this time, the holster has been pulled out and placed on the table. Maybe the old Wayne wants to go out and investigate the case next, and the night tour at the end of the last episode may be driven by this motivation.

Wayne hallucinates, and Emilia's ghost appears behind him. People think about things, and things show things. Emilia's words are all expressions of Wayne's inner guilt and pain.

In Emilia's words, Wayne "lost" something in the forest, which should be lost in the abstract sense, not something physical. But Wayne may have really concealed something in the original investigation, because it is unbelievable that so many loopholes were casually mentioned by reporters in its investigation.

22. Back in the 1990s, the middle-aged Wayne, who had entered a semi-retired state, walked into the cubicle office where everyone was mixed up, but received a note from Roland. The partners who had been separated for many years were going to hold hands again for the same purpose.

23. In 1980, Woodard, who was besieged by his parents, ran home and took out a long green cloth bag, which was very heavy and shaped like a gun.

In 24 and 1980, Wayne and Roland took pictures of the evidence found in the woods and handed them over to the Purcells for identification. They both said they had never seen the toys.

Roland gave an important piece of information, except for the William brothers and sisters, a set of unfamiliar fingerprints was found on those toys, which means that one person often played with the brothers and sisters in the afternoon.

Wayne opened the Purcell family photo album and found William's hand movements during the Eucharist ceremony, his palms folded and his fingers crossed, just as he had done when he died.

This should be an intentional misleading message, even that gesture in the hole is misleading. Perhaps the religious elements infiltrated in this play are distracting. But indeed, it succeeded in disturbing us.

In 25 and 90, the middle-aged Wayne and Roland finally saw each other again. The sun shines into the low box-like bar from the window, and the music is filled with the softness of memories, as if whispering about the old friendship. This bar should be the Veterans Affairs Overseas (VFW) that Wayne mentioned to Emilia, so it was so lonely and empty.

From Wayne's words, it is known that they have not seen each other for nine years, which means that in 1981, the Purcell case was closed and Wayne was exiled.

Roland's purpose here is simple and straightforward. He will lead the new investigation team to re-investigate Purcell's old case, and he invites the old friend to join his camp.

The past is a lot, the old days reappear, good friends meet, and we are together. Wayne and Roland fight again.

In the full mirror, the music is getting stronger and the figures are getting farther and farther. We know that when they walk out of that door, they will be greeted by a greater tragedy, but we are still moved by the short-lived warmth at this moment. This is the charm of multiple timelines, it brings multiple perspectives, multiple narratives, multiple viewings, and multiple emotions.

When I look at you, the warmth in your eyes is electrified
