You should write a book about what's going on with the kids here, what's going on with the girls here.
1980: Wayne and Emilia after the shootout
The opening scene follows from the previous episode after the shootout at the Woodard's house and after the "shootout" between Wayne and Emilia.
The dialogue after the "event" also reflects the different personalities of the two and the contradictions brought about by the two opposing personalities.
Emilia said that in the process of having sex just now, she should control her movements and let Wayne last longer, because she thinks Wayne is a person who cares about self-esteem.
But Wayne didn't like Emilia's thoughts and behaviors, and he didn't like others to speculate on his mind.
Emilia wanted to hear Wayne's past story, but Wayne declined. The war experience formed Wayne's concept of time at that time, that life is only in the present, only in the present. The past is the present, and the future is the present.
But the Purcell case will change his view of time. In the next ten, twenty, thirty years, the Purcell case will be like a shoe lost in the forest, like a part of his body, stayed in the past. The Purcell case was like a mystery that would haunt and haunt him day and night. Coupled with the aggravation of his amnesia, memory will gradually lose its tangible reality to him like quicksand. The past, present, and future will all be time-lacking, the boundaries will be blurred, and time will be like an illusion (43:55 in the third episode. Miria has quoted Einstein to express this view).
Wayne lit another cigarette and looked at the mirror in the scene (also outside the camera mirror), Emilia wandered in a psychedelic, two bedside lamps, separated from each other, Emilia's side was bright as Orange, Wayne's side light is off.
1990: The Interrogation Room, Tom's Humiliation
Jolie 's recording pointed the finger at Tom, and Gint took advantage of the situation and identified Tom as a suspect, implying that Tom would be forced to confess. For Gint, he just wanted to close the case quickly, and a little more twists and turns were not what he hoped to see, the truth was not his pursuit.
Wayne and Roland had to go into battle to prevent Tom from suffering more under others' hands.
The small hole in Julie and Will's wall is still considered a peephole by them. They pressed Tom if Julie was not his biological daughter and he had child molester tendencies, so he had voyeurized or even violated Julie.
Tom felt that he had been greatly humiliated and hurt. He turned his eyes to Roland for help, and hoped that Roland would clarify for him. He said, "You are clear! Do you think I would do such a thing?!"
This shows that Roland knows a secret of Tom, the secret is that Tom is gay, so he will not be suspected of peeping on Julie.
The reason why Roland learned about Tom's secret must have something to do with the time Roland took Tom back to his house for the night.
The fourth episode 36 minutes 10 seconds to 40 minutes 26 seconds talked about such a thing. At that time, Tom was in trouble in the owner's shop with Lucy, and was beaten up. Tom came and took him away.
It is estimated that everyone thought at the time that Tom had a conflict because his wife had an affair with her boss. Looking back now, I feel like I was fooled by the screenwriter again.
When Roland walked into the "sawhorse restaurant (sawhorse)", he found that except for the waiters, there were all men, and they were basically in pairs, chatting and drinking. This could be a gay bar. Tom came here, I am afraid it is not as simple as provocation and revenge.
In Roland's car, Tom was emotionally fragile, crying to Roland and expressing his strong dependence on Roland. Later, Tom slept on the sofa at Roland's house. After that, something must have happened to let Roland know Tom's secret.
I would like to say again here . The conversation between the two elderly people at the end of the fifth episode shows that Wayne may have done something after drinking, which led to Roland's later lonely situation. In the 1990 timeline, Wayne and his wife Emilia visited Roland. At that time, Roland and Rory were living together, but the two did not marry for some reason. In fact, Lori wanted to get married. The problem was that Roland didn't propose for some reason (Roland is less likely to be gay). Wayne may have made some unfavorable subjective comments on Roland (possibly related to homosexuality) after drinking, possibly at that dinner, or afterward, causing Rory to leave Roland.
Back to the topic, the forced Tom is about to go crazy.
Outside the interrogation room , the middle-aged Wayne looked at Tom through the window. The face of the old Wayne was reflected on the window, showing the connection and confusion of memories.
2015: Clue, Tom to Doom
Alyssa is still interviewing the elderly Wayne, and Alyssa mentions that something happened after Julie's call that made the police more suspicious of Tom.
1990: Tom's House, Debt and Therapy
Emilia will write the second book, which makes Wayne's previous suspicion of Emilia's impure motives surfaced again, and the contradiction between the two begins to accumulate slowly. Undoubtedly, after a while, there will be another violent conflict between the two.
After Julie 's phone call, Wayne and Roland returned to the place where Tom worked ten years ago, and learned that Tom was discovered by colleagues and bullied by others because of his involvement in a gay club. At that time, he was depressed and drinking heavily.
In fact, Tom had been drinking on the day the Purcells disappeared.
Wayne and Roland came to Tom's house and searched for the third time, this time focusing on Tom.
Roland found out that Tom had a lot of unpaid bills (fast due was written on the stack of paper), indicating that Tom owed a lot of debt.
There is a Serenity Prayer on the wall, explaining that Tom hopes to calm his heart and relieve his heart through religion.
There are several books on Tom's desk, all of which may be books that lead people out of a psychological predicament.
Wayne finds a picture of Julie in the drawer, which shows that Tom misses Julie all the time and treats her like a daughter.
Roland poured out a pile of lottery tickets and chips, which means that Tom may have been to Las Vegas (of course not necessarily), and Tom's unpaid bills may be gambling debts.
To recap:
Dan appeared in Vegas in 1987 Lucy died in a hotel outside Vegas in 1988
Roland found condoms, lubricants and other things in a drawer again, I don't understand that. But having condoms doesn't mean Tom has (or is) dating women, because condoms are not only for contraception, but also to prevent AIDS.
Putting those things aside, Roland saw a crumpled note with a cross on it, and two lines in extra bold black: "Homosexuality can be cured!" Correction and treatment. It can be seen that Tom believes that homosexuality is a sin, and he is deeply tortured, and he has also received "treatment" provided by the church.
Roland wanted to defend Tom, but Wayne's mind was that no matter what this time, he had to find out the matter, and the case could not be hastily settled by a few officials like ten years ago.
This time , the video directly shows the situation in 1980 when the case was unilaterally ended by Prosecutor Gint and Sheriff Warren, although the audience already knew the result.
1990: Harris, many doubts
In order to identify the relevance of Tom and Purcell's case, and the relevance of Woodard's case, what Wayne and Roland did next was to find the police officers at the scene of Woodard's case ten years ago.
The first police officer they found was the man who found Will's bag under the floor of Woodard's house, and the second was Harris James, a suspicious figure who immediately recognized Will's bag at the time.
Harris left the police early, and surprisingly, he came to work at Hoyt Foods, a suit and tie, and a generous salary.
Let's take a look at what Harris revealed when he was investigated by Wayne and Roland.
He said he had worked part-time as a security guard at the Hoyt Foods factory for five years when he was a patrolman. This shows a high probability that Harris and Lucy know each other.
Harris failed to explain why he was being paid a high salary as an executive at Hoyt Foods.
Harris jumped to Hoyt Foods in May 1981, a time that presumably coincided with the first forced closure of the Purcell case. It's hard not to suspect that there's a deal here. If the promotion was a reward for Harris, then Harris, Hoyt Foods and Gent are all suspects.
Will's school bag was intact in the explosion, and the instruction bag was put on the scene after the explosion. It was Harris who took over the Woodard case for evidence and investigation. He was the first to discover Julie's burned sweater, and he was the first to recognize Will's red schoolbag. With these two key "evidences", the dead Woodard was regarded as a dumb murderer who could no longer defend himself by Gint and Warren, and the case was concluded.
The front and back are too smooth and natural, like artificial arrangements.
Harris testified that when he was investigating the scene of the Woodard case in 1980, he saw Tom looking at it not far away.
Harris was almost overwhelmed by two questions from Wayne, one whether he knew Lucy and one why he left the patrol.
Harris slyly denied that he had seen Lucy, but his backed-up body language and deliberately diverting the topic showed that he must know Lucy, and it was precisely because there was a secret, so he wanted to hide this fact.
Harris also failed to perfectly explain why he resigned from the police force. His shaking body, ticklish fingers, and pretending to be relaxed tone all showed his guilty conscience.
Finally, a mention of the fixtures and details of Harris' office. The furnishing of this office is undoubtedly expensive, and at the same time shows the interests of its owner.
There is a photo of hunting on the wall. The two people in the photo are one old and one young. The young one should be Harris, and the old one may be the "Mr. Hoyt" who has never been able to show up. Because when he first investigated Hoyt Foods, Hoyt's assistant said that Hoyt likes to hunt.
Exquisite pistols are displayed on the desk, Western swords hang on the wall, as well as globes, nautical paintings and taxidermy, all of which show that the owner here loves weapons and travels. This is very similar to the Hoyt that the assistant described as going on a trip to Africa.
2015: Alyssa, the piercing stare
Alyssa said Harris "disappeared" in 1990.
Wayne knows the cause of Harris's death, and he guiltily tries to see if Alyssa has grasped the cause of Harris's death.
Alyssa stared at Wayne with wide eyes, relentlessly suggestive and offensive. With so many people involved in the case dead, she said, his body might one day be found in a quarry.
"All the dead at Woodard's" means "those who died at Woodard's", and there is a small blunder in the Chinese subtitles.
1990: Shelly, what the girls went through
Emilia , as Elder Wayne said, was an excellent investigator. She knew that the monastery would take in some homeless girls, so she came here to visit.
The nun took her to see Shelly, a girl who knew Julie.
Shelly confirmed that Julie had been at the convent five or six months ago. Shelley and the youth interrogated by Wayne and Roland in episode 5 gave similar messages, "Mary Julie", "The Princess of the Pink Room", "The Queen of the Pink Castle", "Prostitution", "Drugs" ", "Girls".
The pink room appeared at the end of this episode. Although it did not reveal what it was used for, Harris closely guarded it, and the location was hidden in the basement, so it could be seen that it was an activity that could not be seen.
We still use common sense to speculate. Where do you like to use to create a pink vibe? red light district. Combined with the mention of drugs and prostitution, the pink room should be a porn site. "Queen" and "Princess" are also used to refer to women engaged in pornography.
Here I must mention that, around 13 minutes and 45 seconds of the third episode, Wayne and Roland searched Purcell's house for the second time. Wayne found a notebook in Julie's room. Two things, one is very much like a bouquet in the hands of a grass tie doll, and the other is a crown. There may be a correspondence between the crown and the queen. What does this mean? Julie was in contact with the pink room before she disappeared (actually visited or heard about it).
At the end of Emilia's interview with Shelly, Shelley, who has obvious battered scars on her face, said with tears in her eyes, "You should write a book about what happened to the children here, what happened to the girls here. .
This shows that, as unfortunate as Julie, there are many girls. What happened to these homeless children on the street, these children ignored by the government and the law? Nobody cares.
In the middle of Emilia's interview, there was a sound of the car door closing downstairs. Emilia looked at a young man who looked like a worker came out of a tool cart with "Ardoin" written on it, and someone read it. The cast list on IMDB found that ardoin was the surname of little Mike, the little boy who recognized the photo of the grassy doll in Emilia's hand ten years ago. The cast also shows that this person is Mike. But little Mike is blond, how did his hair turn black as an adult? TV shows generally don't allow this kind of inconsistency. So please allow me to doubt for now.
1990: Background, Dan and Lucy
Dan took the initiative to call the police, which is very interesting, who would take the initiative to call the police? And he has always been a suspect. Because he was short of money to spend, and sure enough, he asked Wayne and Roland Lion for $7,000. At the beginning of the fifth episode, a policeman explained some information about Dan after 1980. The first one was that he was imprisoned in 1985 for cheating a check. It can be seen that this kid is not short of money for a year or two.
Judging by the appearance of his drug addiction, it may be a drug debt; and based on the information that he has been in Vegas before, it may also be a gambling debt. I think there are two points worth paying attention to. First, Dan and Lucy are both addicted to drugs. What is the reason for the two of them to become addicted to drugs? Second, Dan may also have a gambling addiction like Tom. Dan did go to Vegas in 1987, but why does Tom gamble?
Dan's remarks provide some further background information.
Cousin Lucy was two years older than Dan, and when Dan was two, four-year-old Lucy moved into his house because Lucy's mother had died. Dan began to suffer from family abuse before he was two years old. Lucy and Dan's lives, for the most part, overlapped.
Dan apparently has clues about Julie's whereabouts, and he hints that someone is interfering with the investigation of Wayne and Roland so they can't find Julie.
Dan implies that Lucy did not die by suicide, but rather that someone deliberately made Lucy's death look like suicide.
From Dan's words, the internal cause of Lucy's death was that Lucy "did not know when to stop putting pressure on it, so it was self-defeating".
These words are already very directional. Lucy and Dan should both know the reason for Julie's disappearance, and Lucy also blackmailed someone for money.
Dan 's subsequent murder may have been caused by contacting the police this time, and he was silenced like his sister.
2015: The need for family
Alyssa holds a photo of Dan's corpse, with a police station sign in the corner stating that the photo was given to her by Henry. And she showed the photo to Wayne, which caused Henry to turn his face with her.
Wayne exposes Henry's secret relationship with female reporter Alyssa. Alyssa and Emilia form a contrasting relationship.
The father-son dialogue revealed that Henry and his wife Heather's marriage were also cracked. The marriage of father and son forms a set of contrasting relationships.
Wayne taught Henry not to repeat his mistakes and to give more to his love and loved ones. This section shows the theme of "family" in the play. The old Wayne has lived for so many years, and I don't know how many broken families he has seen (there is no happy and complete family in this play), and he has made the same mistakes himself. When he grows old, he realizes the importance of family.
1990: Dan, a name
Tom overheard the news that Dan took the initiative to find the police, and found Dan himself. From Tom's words, it can be seen that the two met here before.
As soon as the two met, Tom's first words indicated that Dan had been addicted to drugs a long time ago and was always extracting money from the Purcells. From the dialogue, Dan knows Tom's gay identity. Tom would be blackmailed by him, that's probably why.
Tom pointed a gun at Dan and accused him of peeping at Julie, and Dan said he was innocent. In the latter part of this episode, Wayne's enlightenment also cleared Dan's suspicions. In fact, the hole was not used for peeping at all, but a passage for the brothers and sisters to exchange notes. Judging this point, I have written it out in the third episode. According to the color and handwriting of the note, it can be inferred that this is a dialogue between two children. The reason for passing the note is that the parents are quarreling, the younger sister Julie is afraid, and the older brother Will is comforting Julie. The white notes are the words of the elder brother comforting the younger sister, and the yellow notes are the words of the younger sister Julie in response to the elder brother. There are six pieces of paper, three white and three yellow.
Will's three sentences are:
"Don't listen to (they quarrel)." "I'll always be here (to protect you)." "I'll always protect you."
Julie's three sentences are:
"It's fine." "I'm fine." "Good night."
What Dan said to Tom also suggests that Lucy may have long thought of leaving Tom, so she needed money, so she exchanged Julie for a large sum of money (not necessarily that Lucy intended to send Julie in.) prostitution cave), and then really left Tom.
2015: car accident, sedan
Old Wayne's words, referring to Harris' widow, who used to be a servant at the Hoyts, Wayne and Roland may have also investigated her.
While Wayne was urinating, Roland glanced at Wayne's desk and found that Wayne was full of notes on his wife's book. Based on my level of learning scum, I can see that one of the paragraphs should be about a car accident between Emilia and the Wayne family. There is also a paragraph written about Emilia's interview with Lucy. Lucy is depressed by Will's death, but she is convinced that Julie is not dead. This further proves that Lucy knew about Julie's disappearance, but Will's death was not within her expectations.
Wayne came back after urinating, so now, he looked at Roland in amazement with big flashing eyes, indicating that he completely forgot that the two were still talking in his study just now, and that he had been eloquently expressing to the old man to continue. The heroic demeanor of the investigation. This is the reason why Roland was unmoved after Old Wayne found Roland and expressed his intention to continue investigating the case. He already knew Wayne's current virtue.
And at this time, Wayne had hallucinations again. He felt that a dark-colored car was watching him outside the window, but Roland glanced at it and there was no parking outside.
The multiple appearances of a sedan in Wayne's hallucinations must have occurred in reality, as those who appear in Wayne's hallucinations have been confirmed. Maybe the car was related to his crash, maybe the car was related to the brown sedan at Devil's Den Park.
When it was over, the old Wayne also asked: "It's 2015, right?" Yes, Mr. Detective, we still have to rely on you in 2015 to find out the truth.
1990: The one-eyed black man at the chicken factory
At Emilia's autograph, the one-eyed black man who bought ten straw dolls showed up. This black man was blind in his left eye. When Mrs. Faber described it, she also indicated it with her finger. The one-eyed black man Wayne and Roland found was accidentally injured.
And that black man also gave important information. There are several black people like me nearby, and one of them works in a chicken factory.
The black man who appeared in front of Emilia should be the black man in Hoyt's chicken factory. This black man and Lucy should know each other.
1990: Lots of guesswork, pink room
Tom is now an alcoholic again, and Tom, who had quit drinking before the case reopened in 1990, has fallen again. The investigation of the case did not bring the truth, but instead caused great harm to the parties, which is embarrassing.
Dan must have directed Tom to Hoyt Foods.
Outside the door of Hoyt Foods, two people appeared, and with the habit of screenwriters, this is definitely not idle writing. One of them was gray-haired, in a suit, white, and lit a cigar, probably old Hoyt himself. The other was a black man in a suit, like his bodyguard.
Let's hook up the previous clues. The old white man who lived next to Devil's Cave Park said that there was a precious brown sedan parked in Devil's Cave Park. There were two people in the car, a black man in a suit and a white woman. At the same time, he stressed that the car did not show up on the day of the Purcell incident.
There's no evidence, I'll just guess. The black man in the luxury car may be Hoyt's bodyguard, and the white woman in the luxury car may be Hoyt's daughter. And the reason they often come to Devil's Den Park is for Hoyt's daughter to play with Julie. During the period, Hoyt's daughter told Julie the story of the pink room and the princess and the queen, so Julie drew that kind of painting. But the pink room in the painting should not be the real pink room, it was painted by Julie by imagination. Or there is another possibility that Julie drew it based on what she saw in reality, plus the processing of her imagination. Because the furnishings in the pink room painted by Julie do resemble the scene of the old white man's house next to Devil's Den Park (it may be just an illusion), so Julie may have visited his house to play. The old man is unlikely to be related to the case, but he refused Wayne to search, probably because Julie had been to his house, and he was worried that the case would involve himself.
On the day Julie disappeared, the luxury car did not appear, indicating that it was no longer Hoyt's daughter who was looking for the brothers and sisters to "play" that day. It might be the bodyguard himself, or someone else, such as Ellie. The black man with scars on his face that Sha mentioned, and maybe the black man with scars on his face is the bodyguard. In short, on that day, it was very likely that the person who came to "play" with them was no longer Hoyt's daughter, which caused Will to protect his sister and conflicted with that person. He accidentally hit a stone and lost his life. The purpose of that person was to take Julie away.
The pastor said that Julie had said before she disappeared that she would see her aunt soon, and it was estimated that this aunt was Hoyt's daughter. Hoyt's daughter was able to get close to Julie, relying on Lucy's hookup, at the same time, Margaret also played a role, she and Lucy may have worked at the Hoyt Chicken Factory. The Purcells probably disliked or even feared Margaret, because they didn't look at her when they passed by her house, and Will deliberately wore a hat, even though Margaret was enthusiastic about her. They waved, and they just rode past quickly.
Tom sneaks into Hoyt's lair, into a room with zebras and antlers, and a sculpture on a table. This sculpture is very similar to the one on Roland's desk, which should be an intentional foreshadowing.
Tom did not know that his every move was clearly seen by Harris in the monitoring room. Now we know why Harris was paid so much, because he was Hoyt's sin keeper.
Tom goes underground and there is a religious sculpture, a door that says "No Entry, No Disturbing" in English and Spanish (another foreshadowing). Walking into the door, the narrow corridor is flanked by red bricks, which reminds me of those pink crayon drawings that Julie has drawn, one of which is a castle made of red bricks. Julie may not come before she disappears. I've been here, but the person who played with her may have described to her that the story of the "princess in the red castle" may have taken root in her mind like this.
Tom pushed open the door, turned on the light, the walls were all pink, and judging from his surprised expression, he saw a picture of Julie. Guess, Julie in the photo may be dressed as a princess wearing a crown.
Harris came quietly behind Tom, Tom must have been more ill-fated.
