Recently, I finally found another TV series that is almost worthy of five stars and very close to the narrative of the American Revolution. It is very unexpected - it turned out to be this show. I really like the support for abolitionists and the criticism of slavery in it. It doesn't cover much, but the sentences are spot on.
Season one
Episode 1
I've heard for a long time that this poetess is going to be made into a TV series, but because she's not the protagonist of the times (the protagonist is Washington, Garrison , Sr. Brown , Lincoln , Grant , etc., is a man, has it changed now? But at the same time, he is always the one who fights on the front line), I don't know much about her, and I don't pay much attention to the progress of the show. I didn't expect to watch it again. Not only the first season is out, but the third season is all scheduled.
There are too few good history and historical biography TV series, only "Adams" can be counted, so I didn't expect much from this drama, but I was surprised by the first episode.
This is probably the first time I feel that a historical drama with modern elements is good. There is always a misunderstanding of "serious historical drama". Seriousness is not about performance style or script, but about attitude towards historical truth. Therefore, this drama and "Django Unchained" are relatively serious, and the seemingly serious "Gods and Generals" is a pure nasty farce.
Some histories shouldn't be joked, and some are just right. Jokes that shouldn't be joking, and those who should be joking are serious, are disasters. The directors and writers of this show are very wise. In fact, this play has caused the audience (that is, myself) to think about death and other issues, which is serious in itself, and compared to " Bird of God ", it looks very pale and embarrassing.
The first episode's portrayal of same-sex bromance, its meditation on death, was great. The protagonist's thinking is well said by the mouth of death: "If you follow the rules, you will not live forever. After a hundred years, I will be the only one in the family who is talked about by the world."
Episode 2
Women disguised as men to listen to the professor's lecture on volcanoes.
Episode 3
Taking opium at a party.
Episode 4
Visit Thoreau (a bit too much for his fiction).
Episode 5
Shakespeare Theatre Society.
Episode 6
Fake sickness for writing.
Episode 7
In Kansas, the Republican Party is on the rise.
Episode 8
Miss Alcott (again, too much fictional Thoreau...)
Episode 9
For the first time, I saw a film and television drama showing a solar eclipse, and it was so beautiful and shocking. Take care of a sick boyfriend. Talk to the maid about religion. Boyfriend's death.
Originally, I couldn't help watching two episodes every day. After Ben, the kindest and most lovable character in the film, died, I stopped watching this show for several days. I mean, I used to laugh at readers not buying because Miss Alcott wrote Bass to death in Little Women, but this time I kind of understand the feeling (what's the point of seeing Ah...) But the difference is that Ben is probably a historical figure, and this episode has to die. Looking at the flattering appearance of George, who is morally unprincipled (supporting slavery), in contrast, Ben is even more valuable.
second season
Episode 1
Maybe after watching this episode one after another for a month, I remembered to write this comment. For the channel of station B ( Trian ), I have been too busy recently.
People read the newspapers from the very beginning, revealing that the country was on its way to the second revolutionary war of the American Revolution, and people knew that. (The blue-clothed ghost that appears frequently since then also illustrates this point)
The protagonist goes to see a doctor with dazzling eyes, his father asks if he will get better, and the doctor replies "no". This plot is very funny, but it also uses the doctor's words to imply the protagonist's determination to write at all costs.
Episode 2
The protagonist shows off her cooking skills and wins the competition, but a newspaper editor tells her that her writing talents shouldn't be wasted in the kitchen. This editor is probably the replacement for the dead Ben, but he is not as tall and handsome as Ben, so I don't remember his name.
Episode 3
After the seance, the protagonist was inspired to publish his work publicly, but the editor who had enthusiastically encouraged him before, just received her as a routine.
Episode 4
The protagonist gets into a writing quandary after submitting his own work to the editor, and the rescuer in this episode is the designer of Central Park: Designing a park is an art, and it also encounters difficulties, then stop, this artwork To serve and even save democracy for centuries to come, it cannot be rushed. Forget everything and immerse yourself in the creation. If you lose this feeling, let yourself "lost" again and get back that feeling.
Frederick Law Olmsted
Looking back after a few months, I realized that Olmsted, the protagonist of this episode, was an abolitionist.
James Abbott's howitzer, which played a huge role in the Kansas freedom struggle, was donated by Olmsted. The abolitionist identities of the true abolitionists are often overlooked in the same way that the identities of the evil forces of the true slave owners and their lackeys are ignored. A notable example is the Olmsted entry on the wiki, which so far does not state that Olmsted was an abolitionist, just as many slave owners are not mentioned as slave owners. On the contrary, in order to slander Grant, the hero who defeated the slave army, Grant's identity that could not be called a slave owner was repeatedly exaggerated, hyped, and even fabricated new "facts".
Yes, everything is too unfair, too unreasonable, and this is wrong and we should correct it. Olmsted will make his first appearance in my SRPG The Legend of American Heroes: Second Revolutionary War.
Oh, by the way, Olmsted was busy gathering weapons for the Kansas freedom fighters during that time, and probably didn't have time to travel around like in the show.
Episode 5
Sanford of the Hudson River School also joined the 7th New York Militia after the Second Revolutionary War!
7th New York Militia
Episode 6
What the audience thinks in their hearts can be seen by looking at the works.
Some people say that opera is rubbish. Actually, any art form is divided into works. Let's take a look at the opera "Truth" of the Second Revolutionary War.
Beneath the fame-craving nonsense, what do you really want? It's beauty, it's love...
Episode 7
Is the legendary spa really like that?
Episode 8
Her work is finally published, but the first episode of The Ghost in Blue reveals the truth about her fame. Black people commented that her poems during this period had no political stance and made people sleepy. I agree that all great art must be a cry for politics, for freedom and equality, and she has not yet reached this height. Although the powers of the spirit are invisible, it is by these invisible things that the world operates, an incomparably powerful force that can destroy evil slavery and bring light and hope.
The final whistle of the ghost in blue was the song of old John Brown, which really proved my initial guess that he was one of the freedom fighters from the future, an unknown martyr who fought for human freedom and equality.
Then there is the scene of the black party raising money to buy weapons for John Brown Sr. to fight for the revolution. Revolution, revolution! The word revolution is mentioned in the movie! Second Revolutionary War! Why is such a simple and meaningful truth so rare to see once in a movie? I'm going to add another star to give this show full marks. God, this is the first time in over a hundred years that the end of the great second revolution has been so vividly presented in film!
I don't know if it's time to make old brown a clown, don't, I don't want to see a moral downfall like "Bird of God" (very sad long and bad reviews) , but if it's unfortunate, I won't hesitate to stick to the principles, let's see later.
This drama is really good, look at this expression, as if history has come to life, it sincerely makes me feel happy for the situation at that time.
I also have to reflect, the current development of the game "Legend of American Heroes: Second Revolutionary War" has not yet appeared a black character, but after all, black people are like invisible in the whole story, white abolitionism The author is still the protagonist, this is a historical fact, there is no way.
The Man in the Box Brown, a famous real-life story of the Underground Railroad.
By contrast, Dickinson, who is still concerned with his reputation for writing "idyllic poetry," is hardly qualified to appear, and certainly not in my own "American Heroes: Second Revolutionary War."
This debate is very exciting, and this is my feeling. I said it a long time ago. It's just my channel, my media is still struggling to survive.
It seems unlikely to be disrespectful to old Brown's conscience, the present show has always been respectful and merciful to the great abolitionist and oppressed who fought for universal freedom and equality for mankind.
Black people dance enthusiastically, while conservative and decadent industrial and commercial interest groups are rigidly playing the violin. One is revolutionary and the other is dying. Watching this drama, you don’t look at the appearance, you look at the emotion it wants to convey.
Episode 9
The son of the Dickinson family is really good. The difference between the noble and the mean is presented in this way more than a hundred years later. It is very clear for people to see, and the spirits of those who speak for their conscience will also be relieved.
Old John Brown didn't show his face at all, and a word brought his uprising. Although the lines are insulting the martyr, but because it comes from the mouth of the villain, it is really another kind of praise for the martyr. And "Bird of God" directly let old Brown jump in front of the camera like a clown, which is the essential difference.
The truth of the ghost finally came out, it was a classmate of my son at West Point.
Episode 10
Another daughter's boyfriend is going to New Orleans, on the eve of the Second Revolutionary War! Fortunately, I didn't follow along, otherwise I would be in the evil camp!
