Spring is not a study day, but a good weather suitable for truancy. Time is like an arrow, the sun and the moon are like a shuttle. If you don't enjoy such a good youth time, wouldn't it be a pity!
When Philip woke up early in the morning, in order to live up to the good weather, he could only start by pretending to be sick. Watching Philip talk about all kinds of leave secrets while pretending to be sick, I couldn't help but at the same time reminded me of my own high school fashion illness playing truant from school to watch movies. Such a relaxed, cheerful, youthful beginning set the tone for the whole film.
John Hughes' films are very popular among teenagers. I think an important reason is that the film's position is entirely based on the position of teenagers. No adult is condescending and preaching to look at these "problem teenagers", but to look at the world from the perspective of these "problem teenagers".
Just like Philip was not severely punished by the dean for playing truant, but he expressed repentance for it, and eventually became the person the adult in society wanted him to be. Instead, he always used his eyes to explore this beautiful world passionately from beginning to end, completely getting rid of the old-fashioned and old rules, and squandering the fleeting youth to his heart's content. I also think this is precisely the very precious point of youth films.
What impressed me deeply was that when Karen’s grandmother "passed away", the teaching director once comforted: "Between sadness and nothingness, I choose sadness." For entering youth, he also brought some rebellious teenagers. It is said that between sadness and nothingness, one will inevitably choose nothingness. After all, either get everything or nothing. Youth is often restless and reckless.
The whole movie is also full of memories that belong to that era. Every once in a while, the whole movie will be full of cathartic rock music, especially remember Philip wriggling on the parade stage, holding the microphone and pretending to sing Twist and Shout of The Beatles. The people on the street were also affected and couldn't help but twist, and the cheerful, youthful mood continued to spread around. In John Hughes's "Breakfast Club," there is a line, "When a person grows up, the heart is dead." This play is a rejection of growth. Philip broke the indifference and death of adult society. Use the unique vitality of youth to infect these "dead hearts". That moment was the most sincere compliment to youth.
A good youth film will always resonate with a group of people. Philip represents the rebellion, vitality and impulse of youth. He despised the rules set by adults and simply enjoyed the beauty of life. He is a true portrayal of a group of American youths that emerged after the 1960s.
And Philip's friend Karen is also a representative figure. Born in a patriarchal family, his childhood was always shrouded in the harsh shadow of his father. This is indeed not a new role. But through the day spent with Philip, he gradually transformed from surrendering to patriarchy to resisting patriarchy, and eventually destroyed what his father believed was more important than his own life-a Ferrari sports car. This kind of resistance to parents during youth is undoubtedly a cliche plot that can completely change a person's character and views on things in just one day. I don't care if you agree with it or not, anyway, just watching the movie's presentation can't convince me at all! Therefore, I can't approve of this clichéd role from the bottom of my heart.
Philip's girlfriend-Silang can be said to be the weakest character among the three protagonists. Her existence seems to only show that youth is also inseparable from love. Basically, the whole film revolves around Philip, and there is no personality change. Philip, who just watched leaving at the end, said affectionately, I want to marry you. this. . . Please forgive me for feeling that this is a tool man! It's simply a character with no opinion and no sympathy.
But I fully recognize the role of dean. Under normal circumstances, in the world of every rebellious teenager, there will be an instructor who is hostile to them. And the film made the teaching director unlucky from start to finish, and did not express any sympathy for this character. I like this very much. After all, from the perspective of a rebellious teenager, the dean of education should be this fate. Such a plot setting completely guarantees that the perspective always stands on the standpoint of adolescents, without any trace of adult intervention. The role of the dean also contributed more than half of the jokes to the movie and became a complete harlequin. When such a movie came out, the hard-pressed high school students watched it so much that they took off.
There is one more interesting and worth mentioning: "The world is changing, and drugs are also changing." "Four Hundred Strikes" and "Spring Is Not Reading Day", the protagonists of these movies skip class to visit the city. And now high school students skip class, who else will go? Maybe the most is to go to the Internet cafe next door to play a few hours of games:)
In short, the whole movie is not an adult's summary and reflection on youth, but a chance for the audience to enter the relaxed and happy youth time again. It is a love letter to youth. The good time should not be let down, and we should fully enjoy this best time while we are young.
