Fargo Season 2 has long ended.
The small town lawyer Carl, who participated in the Vietnam War and opened a 4S shop, usually has no other hobbies. He likes to drag his clerk Sonny around in the tavern. From Ho Chi Minh to JFK, from Eisenhower's farewell speech to the White House Special Investigation Team, his topics are always inseparable from war, conspiracy and boasting.
In Carl's view, the case of the three corpses in the small muffin house is not as simple as "robbery and murder" as some policemen call it. He firmly believes that there is a big conspiracy behind it, and the male protagonist Lou can't laugh or cry. But the irony is that this time Carl got it right, the Three Corpse case is indeed the starting point of Fargo's story in a sense.
We don't know exactly what role Carl played in the Vietnam War, but when the Indian killer came to his car and threatened Sonny, he calmly flashed his gun and forced Hanzee away, proving that he was more than a liar.
Carl was quite critical of those in power, and of course he was dismissive of the presidential candidate who came to the town to speak. But after listening to the speech, tears of excitement filled his eyes again, "I admit that this guy is indeed charming." Still, he "won't" shake hands with someone who "has made a movie with monkeys."
He always slaps himself in the face. As soon as he finished speaking, he couldn't wait to shake hands while praising each other's movie, even though no one liked that movie at all.
If it hadn't been for Ed timidly imitating the TV series and saying "I want a lawyer", Carl might have ended up as a big talker in the whole play.
"Who do they turn to when the worst crisis in town? Of course I'm the mayor's best lawyer," Carl began to brag again while he was slightly drunk. And Sonny didn't forget to say, "Aren't you the only lawyer in town?" Even the policeman who came to invite him couldn't help laughing.
In ancient times, Yu Wenjiu killed Huaxiong, and now there is Carl cold beer to retreat from the enemy. As soon as he entered the police station, he started his best argument on righteous words, but he didn't care that he was too drunk, and he couldn't even tell the front and back doors. However, this spirit of drinking met the unkind Gerhardt family, and instantly turned into "a pool of spring water" and woke Carl up.
At this time, the small police station was isolated and helpless, and the few police officers were timid and reckless. Even though the state policeman Lou had three heads and six arms, he did not dare to fight recklessly with more than a dozen desperadoes with guns and live ammunition outside the door. As a last resort, he had to let Carl, who had been on the battlefield, go out to negotiate. Even if he couldn't retreat, he could delay for a while to wait for support, so that he could escort Ed to escape from the police station.
Negotiations are not too difficult for Carl, but facing the dark muzzle of the gun, he is inevitably afraid. "We are allies, don't shoot!" As soon as he went out, he first stabilized the other party in order to change with time.
The atmosphere was so tense that he had to light a cigarette and sit down. At this moment, Carl is different from the previous one. He clearly shows that Bear's son is underage, and even if the sentence is not long, the prison will turn him into a wanted criminal and run away for life. During the intense bargaining, Carl always had a clear mind and did not back down. In the end, he really persuaded Bear, "I advise you to retreat now, this is the best strategy for you at the moment."
As Bear returns to the car, Carl slumps down on the bench in the split, taking a deep breath. Through the screen, I can also feel his fear, but he did it, and he resolved a crisis in the small town police station by himself. The music started, and the highlight moment of 4 minutes and 20 seconds was over. Sonny, who was hiding in the car, also took a sip of wine with relief, with a hint of excitement and admiration in his eyes.
Carl is just a less important role in Fargo, ranked out of ten in the cast, and the departure time is less than ten minutes, but this does not hinder his wonderful performance and leave a deep impression. A small role is still like this, Fargo's charm can be imagined.
Season three,
see you soon.
