Recently, I saw Vigo's early work "The Indian Runner", or translated as "Indian Messenger" (the name is more in line with the original meaning). I admit that I went to Vigo to see this movie, and it turned out to be a windfall.
As soon as I saw the visual style of this film, I felt it was very flavorful. As soon as the director's name came out, I was shocked. It turned out to be Sean Penn! This guy is an actor I like very much. He is not beautiful, with a frown that can never be stretched, and has a stern masculinity. It turns out that this film is his directorial debut, which is really a surprise to watch this film.
The cast of the film can't be said to be first-line, but they are all characters. In addition to Vigo, the man who plays his brother is David Morse, a golden supporting actor in Hollywood, with an honest face, he is almost a head taller than Vigo, and he plays the role of a good brother in the film. Suitable. I can't name the actress who played his wife. She was Tom Cruise's girlfriend in "Rain Man." Patricia Arquette, who plays Vigo's girlfriend, is also well-known, but she is probably best known for her short-lived marriage to Nicolas Cage. Only after watching this film did I realize that she is so petite, and she is a bit short of Vigo's boss. And Danny Hopper also played a small supporting role in the film. The whole movie is actually quite dull, but the wonderful performances of these good actors hold up the movie.
As a debut, this movie can only be considered qualified, it is indeed a sincere work, but it is still a bit confusing. It was quite attractive at the beginning, but it became more and more depressing as it progressed, and why did Vigo's character self-destruct so vaguely, is it because of the trauma of the Vietnam War? It doesn't seem to be the case. There is also the meaning of the "Indian messenger" that looks like an eye, and I also see it in a fog. However, Sean Penn's personality is still vividly reflected in the movie. He doesn't know how to smooth things out, and he doesn't know how to smear powder. It is reflected in the movie that the ruined life will not be restored. Vigo's character has no way out and no light.
Viggo played the film's younger brother Frank, the figure of a libertine. At this time, Vigo was in his early 30s. He had a long hairstyle that I liked. He looked so young, especially when he just appeared on the stage, he was high-spirited and lively. It is a pity that the biggest tragedy of the whole story lies in this character. He is moody, and he will suddenly fall into a state of anger for no reason. His girlfriend, cellmate, passerby, and even a car... Anyone and everything may be affected by it. His sudden outburst of anger came to him. The darkness of the whole story is also reflected in him, and until the end of the play, he has not been able to change his destiny.
Some of Vigo's later roles can be seen in this character. He's suave, very attractive to women, and that kind of energy can also be seen in "Super Perfect Murder". And when he is violent, it is like a changed person, and the dark side is like the character in "The History of Violence". At that age, Vigo could already perform very well in a deep role.
Vigo really showed off his figure in this film, but this character has a lot of various tattoos, which can be called dense, which challenges my aesthetics. Of course, what's more important is that this is the most revealing movie he has ever made - it's really *frontal* full* naked... Comrade Sean Penn is not satisfied with taking a picture in the mirror, and he has to take a frontal One more shot. Why do you say telephoto? ! I don't think it's very far, I can see it quite clearly (covering my face)
