Remaking a classic is a risky thing, and remaking a film that isn't a classic is even more risky.
After the 1977 version, the French film "Love Holiday" (2015) is once again on the screen. The biggest feature of this film is the small mood under the natural scenery, which is very fun to play. Of course, the most attractive is the fresh vitality of youth. This is a French filmmaker's forte.
This time starring François Cluse, who resembles Dustin Hoffman, and the powerful actor Vincent Cassel. A father and daughter travel from Paris to Corsica for a seaside holiday, but they cause emotional upheaval, triggering a war of love, friendship and humanity. In my impression, Vincent Cassel seems to have never been so carefree and romantic. In the past, he mostly played some chaotic and harsh roles.
Anthony, played by François Crucey, is neurotic, a mother-in-law, and emotionally unstable. He is always chatting with his wife Marion who is in the cold war on the phone, and wants to take advantage of the holiday to chat with the beautiful girl. And Lorenzo, an old friend played by Vincent Caso, is a tough guy, full of manliness. After his divorce from his wife, he has been living with his daughter Mary.
At the age of 45, the two of them are in a period of contradiction in their lives. While on vacation, Lorenzo has a chance to win the heart of Anthony's 17-year-old daughter, Luna. The playful and lovely Luna is always close to Lorenzo. When climbing together, Luna deliberately stripped her clothes in front of him and tried her best to seduce him. In the night dance on the seaside, she saw Lorenzo being hooked up by a strange girl, so she stepped forward to stop her in a fit of anger, dragged him to the secluded seaside, and begged to undress and swim together.
Originally, Anthony asked his friends to watch his daughter not fool around with men, and Lorenzo did resist, thinking it was too outrageous. Who can resist such a hot little fresh girl. This caught the attention of Lorenzo's daughter, Marie, who saw that Luna was actually wearing her dad's underwear, and she understood immediately. She was beating Dad and Luna secretly and secretly.
When Luna told Marie that she had a good relationship with her father, Marie got even more angry and asked her father in front of everyone when you and your girlfriend in Paris were getting married. Luna didn't know it, she ran upstairs and burst into tears. Anthony asked her daughter why she was crying, and she said she fell in love with an old man. What, a 45-year-old man, I shot him to death.
During this time, Anthony was very annoyed at the frequent visits of wild boars to his old house. He often saw wild boars jumping around, but could not hit him. Instead, he killed the old black dog next door. Anthony asked Lorenzo to find out who was playing with Luna. The embarrassed Lorenzo had to casually say that it might be the DJ on the dance floor. As a result, the DJ was beaten in vain, and people shouted in pain, "I I'm gay, and I don't like women." Then he gave up, and the two of them ran away in fright. This is Anthony's hometown, the blue sea, the magnificent mountains and rivers, where he grew up since he was a child, and his grandfather is also buried here. But the mess in front of him made him a big headache.
When it was time to go up the mountain to hunt and wait for the wild boar with bated breath, the conversation between the two old friends was very interesting. Anthony blamed himself and said that if this goes on, I will lose Luna. Lorenzo said sadly that we are all cowards, and it is the most difficult thing to communicate with the closest people. The irritable Anthony seemed to be enlightened. The friend in front of him was the old man his daughter had mentioned, and he was so angry that he messed with him. Lorenzo, who returned to the room, wiped the blood on his forehead, packed his luggage in frustration, and prepared to leave.
Anthony outside the house was stunned and thoughtful. It was as if the air had frozen. No one can be the first to break this icy deadlock. Anthony must be wondering if the daughter, because of her father's nagging, has diverted emotional space to Lorenzo. And Lorenzo would also think that if she persisted at that time, Luna might back off and make her daughter so dissatisfied.
In 8 months, the daughters will turn 18. Luna bravely said "I'm sorry" to Mary, and Mary readily said "I accept". "It's not his fault, I hope you understand," Mary said. "You know, he's an adult." The implication is that he has a right to love, and I understand you. Emotions are a confused account, good or bad, just the product of a special situation, there is no right or wrong.
For young people, a happy, healthy, safe and unforgettable relationship is beneficial to the growth of life. Fortunately, they are rational. They finally reconciled. In the early morning, they returned from the beach with bright smiles and deliberately asked the silent them "what's the matter?" Lorenzo shook his head and said "nothing", Anthony said "I'm waiting for you". Luna gave both Papa and Lorenzo a sweet smile.
What can't be let go. You can't change what you've experienced, not to mention everything has drifted by like a feather. As the beautiful opening title "The Sea" sings, "The sea, summer mixed with sheep-like white, like pure angels, the sea, the blue priest, as far as the eye can see, those white birds, and the rusted houses, the sea , along the clear bay, like a love song, touched my heart, because life, like the sea, watch that dance, along the clear bay..."
