I still think it is a good film. Objectively speaking, it is: the atmosphere is depressing, rich and subtle, full of tension, Britain. There are private expressions of repressed emotions, and there are also grand scenes of war.
I wonder how Ian McEwan wanted to write such a story. . . Just as wondering after reading Notes on a Scandal last time.
Nonsense. Just a few short comments.
1. The story has nothing to say, a good story! Of course, the original author has done a lot.
2. However, the credit for the screenwriter is not yet obliterated. What happened that summer in 1935 was narrated from the perspective of Briony and the actual event. It was very clever and necessary.
3. The lens scheduling is very good. The long shot of the battlefield on the beach of Dunkirk in France is particularly impressive.
4. Performance:
(1) Keira Knightley is undoubtedly a vase. The character Cecilia has no special character. I feel that most of the time in this film she is suppressed and swollen.
(2) Among the three actors of Briony Tallis, Venessa Redgrave, is the best. Her final confession is very powerful. The 13-year-old Briony is also very outstanding. I think she is a gloomy, imaginative and thoughtful, scary little girl. The girl's psychological level is very complicated. She thought she understood what she saw, but she didn't. She doubted, spied, and figured out about things. . . She has an ignorant love for Robbie. . . All in all, I have a good grasp. It was 18-year-old Briony that was almost done. Failure failure.
(3) James McAvoy is very glorious. Robbie in 1935 was first a kind boy with the innocent feelings of a young man, as he said in his letter:
Dearest Cecilia, the story can resume. The one I had been planning on that evening walk. I can become again the man who once crossed the surrey park at dusk, in my best suit, swaggering on the promise of life. The man who, with the clarity of passion, made love to you in the library. The story can resume. I will return. Find you, love you, marry you and live without shame.
After seeing this passage, tears burst out .
They are all so full of hope and love, however, they only have time together. . . Ten minutes in the library, and half an hour in the streets of London.
Especially when you think about it, even if they lived together in a small house in Cecilia, London, they never had it.
When you hear the elderly Briony say all this, your heart will feel very, very uncomfortable, as if it is blocked.
Robbie's kindness is manifested in that he didn't hesitate to jump into the water to save Briony, and he walked back slowly with the twins who had run away. But then he faced the change, that group of people. . . The scene was very British: you can imagine how everyone's hearts are turned upside down, but no one says a word, no one moves. Mom said, Briony, you should go to bed and go to bed.
In the center of the light and shadow stood Cecilia in a green dress. The picture was very good.
After going through all that, Robbie's personality has undergone some changes, which are very demanding on actors.
The meeting between the two in a London restaurant was very moving. McAvoy is actually only 1.7 meters (just right). But his eyes, pure blue eyes, are still not easy to resist.
5. The music is very good. Very good. It could also be because of watching it in the cinema...? The sound of the typewriter clicked, accompanied by the rushing piano theme, brewing great anxiety.
The director of the film is Joe Wright, who directed the new version of Pride and Prejudice a while ago. I really don't have a good impression of that version of P&P. But Atonement is still good.
ps This film won the Golden Globe Best Picture. However, I didn't think it was as good as it was at the beginning-I saw Keira Knightly's performance and I had the urge to turn it off, even James McAvoy was there and couldn't stop it. -_-||
