Warm fairy tale

On the night of my birthday, after visiting Mong Kok with Mr. Ho, who had arrived far away, I watched Stardust at the UA Cinema in Langhaofang on a whim, which was translated into "Magic Stardust" in Hong Kong.
I was originally a person who didn't have much interest in movies about magic, science fiction, and the past and the future,
but this is a rare good movie of magic genre, a gorgeous fairy tale. I like.

The Wall is a small town surrounded by a long wall. The only gap in the wall is a passage connecting the outside world. An old man is stationed next to it, which has been close to a century.
This is actually a very subtle metaphor. None of us stays behind certain walls and has no way out. Did not even think of a way out. There are gaps in the wall, but the world outside the wall is unpredictable. Do we dare to take a step? It is not the magical old man with a cane who is guarding the gap, but we ourselves, our conservative and predicament, and our self-protection.

My two favorite characters in the movie are the little old man who guards the gate and the later Captain Shakespeare.
The little old man moved me when he saw the witch fighting on the edge of the wall and the princess and Vein were kidnapped. He turned and left the wall shivering with a cane and said, "I'm not doing it, I'm not doing it! Not to do it! Prevent people inside the wall from going out, but to prevent people outside the wall from coming in!"
Captain Shakespeare is a cute "comrade", he pretends to be cruel and hides his soft heart in front of the weird crew "Majesty", privately, is a person who likes singing, dancing, dressing, literature and art. He teaches the male lead to fencing and the female lead to dance. He is so handsome. He is an omnipotent little magical old man.

The special effects of the movie are very good, and the scenes are also very magnificent. It is a typical magical film, beautiful and magnificent.
The princes who killed each other in the magic kingdom and the witches who hunted down the stars in order to restore their youth are wonderful supporting roles.
In order to fight for the throne, the princes killed each other. After death, they reluctantly left as dead souls and waited for the final heir to appear. They followed the clues of the development of the story and watched the plot step by step with the identity of coaxers and ridicule. To their surprise, their existence is the flavoring agent of the movie!
The ugly old witches are the saddest characters. They rely on the hearts of the stars to maintain their youth and mana, otherwise they are just old and ugly witches living in the dusty and gloomy castle. It is sad irony to watch the common dream of mankind shatter in the selfish witch.
The most commendable thing is the handling of the details of the movie. The prince who turned into a ghost has an axe that taught him to kill. After the witch consumes mana, his chest collapses... These details make the whole movie. Full of comedy elements. Finally, at the prince's enthronement ceremony, the old captain and the stunned man who had competed with the hero for a lover gave a wink, which was simply too meaningful!

I think the director must be a person who is full of love and warmth at heart, and at the same time has a naughty and lovely temperament,
so he can make such a warm, beautiful and spiritual movie.
As a commercial magic movie, Stardust should be considered an excellent work-not for magic but for magic, it is a breakthrough.

At the end of the movie, the prince and princess live in the sky as stars. A secular ending promises a bright future:
only by getting the heart of the stars can you gain eternal life, but Vein loves him so much that he has completely given his heart to him.
Happy Ending

Stardust quotes

  • Tristan: Don't you ever sleep?

Yvaine: Not at night. May have escaped your notice, genius, but that's when the stars have rather better things to do. They're coming out, shining, that sort of thing.

Tristan: Yeah, well, it may have escaped yours, but you're not in the sky anymore. Coming out is off the agenda. Shining has been suspended until further notice. Oh, and sleeping during the day is O-U-T. Unless you have some magical ability to sleep while you're walking.

Yvaine: Have you not got it into your thick head yet? I'm not walking anywhere!

  • Tristan: I find the fastest way to travel is by candlelight.

    [showing the candle]

Yvaine: You've got a Babylon candle.

Tristan: Yeah, I have a bubbling candle.

    Yvaine: A *Babylon* candle.

    Tristan: That's what I said.

    Yvaine: You said "bubbling".
