"Su Qi'er": The martial arts drama is full of points and the literary drama is abrupt

After watching "Su Qi'er", my first impression is that this film is so similar to Yu Rentai's "Huo Yuanjia". And Yuan Heping, the director of "Su Qi'er", is the martial arts instructor of "Huo Yuanjia". It is hard not to believe that Yuan Heping is suspected of borrowing from "Huo Yuanjia".

The level of action scenes is good.

Yuan Heping's film is absolutely guaranteed, at least in action scenes. "Su Qi'er" is so intense that it is almost breathless. Every setback and growth of Su Qier is accompanied by hearty fights one after another, pushing the plot forward. What is different from other kung fu films is that Su Qier in the film has different kung fu skills as the plot develops. Yuan Heping concentrated various styles of martial arts on Su Qi'er, so that the action scenes of this film with such a dense fighting scene did not seem to make people feel aesthetically fatigued at all. In each action segment, you can find the action design that makes people's eyes bright, which makes people stunned. The hard bridge between Su Qier and Yuan Lie; the unrestrained confrontation between Su Qier and Wushen; and the agility of the final drunken fist were all properly integrated into one film by Yuan Heping. Therefore, regardless of the film itself of "Su Qi'er", the action design of this film is enough to become one of Yuan Heping's masterpieces. "Su Qi'er" tells the audience that Yuan Baye's title of "Number One Martial Artist in the World" was not obtained casually.

The plot is a little abrupt

. In the process of watching the movie, I have never understood the positioning of the film "Su Qi'er". I don't understand whether it is a biopic or a legendary film. Hong Kong has always had a tradition of shooting legendary films, such as the "Once Upon a Time" series is a typical legendary film. The characteristic of this film is that the protagonist in the film is only the same name as a certain character in history, and its storyline has completely jumped out of the character's life. I can't verify whether the story told in "Su Qi'er" is very similar to the real Su Can's life, just from the setting of the plot in the film (such as Yuan Lie's revenge, Su Can's self-imagination, etc.), It's a typical legendary setting.

Then there is such a legendary film, but Yuan Heping has adopted the shooting method of a serious biopic, which makes the overall style of the film and some details of the film inconsistent. This is like writing unofficial history with the writing of official history, and it always feels a little wrong. After a large number of martial arts have filled every corner of the film, and the details of the film are enriched by the way of a legendary film, this film, which has a tendency to biopic, looks abrupt due to the incongruity of the internal structure. This also leads to the second larger problem of the film.

The emotional foundation is obviously not enough

. As mentioned above, "Su Qi'er" is suspected of borrowing from "Huo Yuanjia", not only because the plot settings of the two are very close, but the last duel with foreigners is exactly the same. In particular, the particularity of the historical period in which the character Su Can lives makes it difficult for people to avoid his possible conflicts with foreigners. Patriotism is an essential reconciling agent when shooting late Qing Dynasty films. This is the case in both the mainland and Hong Kong. Even many previous Hong Kong legendary films often combined patriotism into the film, and the combination was quite perfect. "The Lion King" is such a successful example. In this typical legendary film, Huang Feihong's last words to Li Hongzhang that did not exist in history have become a classic in the Hong Kong film industry. Therefore, the element of patriotism is not that it cannot be integrated into the legendary film, but the method of integration must be considered. But no matter what the method is, there is one thing that cannot be ignored-that is, it requires a certain amount of emotional precipitation. This is true of "The Lion King", and the same is true of "Huo Yuanjia". I still have tears in my eyes when I see the scene when Huo Yuanjia finally collapsed on the ring. But when almost the same scene appeared in "Su Qi'er", I didn't find this moving. The main reason for this is that due to the abruptness of the plot, the final duel with foreigners seems rather abrupt, and it seems that such a plot setting was forced into it in order to express patriotism. In fact, the plot with such a blunt feeling is set in front of Su Can who encounters an expert in a tavern and learns drunken boxing (learning drunken boxing is to serve the later duel, but who is this expert, why teach him drunken boxing, but No explanation at all) is already obvious.

Since the tone of the film has changed from revenge to lofty patriotic feelings, it is difficult for the audience to have emotional precipitation in a short period of time, which is why "Su Qi'er" finally fell on the ring and finally stood up. No important reason for shocking me.

Zhao Wenzhuo is the most exciting

For Hong Kong movie fans, Zhao Wenzhuo is a name that cannot be ignored. Once upon a time, his status in the kung fu movie world was as famous as Jet Li. He once played Huang Feihong with Jet Li in Tsui Hark's movies, and he also played with Jet Li in "Fang Shiyu". The classic stick battle of "Zhen Jie Stick Battle" in "Men Be Self-improvement". However, slowly, this agile man is gradually disappearing from the big screen, and once "fucked" in the TV series. Regardless of the quality of the film "Su Qi'er", it is exciting to see Zhao Wenzhuo show his vigorous skills on the screen again. Zhao Wenzhuo's performance in "Su Qi'er" is a little more flamboyant and explosive than his previous roles. For fans of kung fu movies, if Zhao Wenzhuo can rely on "Su Qi'er" to return to the ranks of first-line actors, it will be the most gratifying thing.
