Because of Zhou Xingchi, many people go there in the mood of comedy, funny and happy, but this is not a comedy movie - having comedy elements does not mean that it is a comedy movie. At least I don't categorize it that way.
The mermaid in our fantasy, or even more moving and beautiful, is not so realistic and cruel, and it is not also fat and ugly. But Zhou Xingchi thinks differently than you.
"The Mermaid" does have some flaws, some repetitive tropes - it reminds you that behind this movie is the person you are familiar with. Although I can't see Xingye in the movie, I can feel that Xingye is everywhere. It's just that Xingye in this movie makes me a little sad.
Before watching it, I was also so afraid of disappointment because the actors didn't seem to fit the feel.
Like Xing Ye, I have a mermaid fantasy from my heart, so I have been speculating about what kind of mermaid Xing Ye is going to shoot?
This is not a beautiful and beautiful movie, only the ending has a bright fairy tale color. It's not even a blockbuster, no big scenes, no flashy production. The picture is not the exquisite, beautiful and colorful visuals that everyone expects, nor is it a fairy tale in the traditional sense. I didn't expect Xing Ye to be so cruel, but I think Zhou Xingchi's original intention is this. The story he wants to tell is this one in the movie: Real, scarred, imperfect.
After reading it, I sincerely love the creation of Xing Ye. He tells an unexpected story, and that somewhat tattered, rough, even ugly picture is perhaps his pain and sincerity for the story. I didn't even expect him to have this sense of purpose, and through the film, you can take his point of view convincingly.
He still impresses me as always.
Just want to say: I love Star Lord, Forever. I thought Deng Chao would let me down, but in the hands of Xing Ye, he didn't let me down either.
Reminder: Not suitable for children to watch, some pictures are a bit bloody and cruel.
