The congressman's family of four lives in an exclusive apartment on the Left Bank of Paris. The congressman's youngest daughter, Baroma (Garance Le Guillermic), is eccentric and likes to see the world through a camera. She is a genius little philosopher under the age of 12. Unwilling to be the doomed goldfish in the fish tank, Baroma plots a suicide on her birthday.
The concierge of the apartment, Honey (Josiane Balasko), is a fat and ugly 54-year-old widow. She carefully maintained the vulgar image of the concierge, and built a rich spiritual world for herself in the secret room. But Paloma vaguely discovered this secret, and the newly moved Japanese gentleman Ozu Gelang (Ikawa Togo) also noticed the unknown side of Honey. Under Ozu's courteous guidance, not only does Honey gradually drop her humble disguise, but Paloma also begins to re-examine life and death.
The film is based on the novel of the same name by French writer Miuriet Barbery.

The Hedgehog quotes

  • Paloma Josse: Planning to die doesn't mean I let myself go like a rotten vegetable. What matters isn't the fact of dying or when you die. It's what you're doing at that precise moment.

  • Renée Michel: Happy families are all alike.

Kakuro Ozu: Every unhappy family is unhappy in its own way.

    [Quoting from Tolstoy's 'Anna Karenina']
