Really reconciled.
The actors' performances are all quite good. The performances of Sanada Hiroyuki, Zhang Dongjian, and Nicholas Tse are all tense, and of course they are very exaggerated stage accents. I don't know why Chen Kaige is so good at this. Wang Yi in "Wuji" opened his mouth, and I thought it was the winning government in "Jing Ke Assassinate the King of Qin" again.
The problem lies in the script. The emotion of watching "Alive" and "Farewell My Concubine" in the past can only be found in "Blind Well". Chen Kaige and Zhang Yimou and others do not believe that Chinese people can understand the deep meaning of the plot. The plot is simplified and the character is symbolized, so that the protagonist can read the central idea of the movie at a half speed, what "I realized...", what "...run...speed", I'm here to see Movies, not for education. Kubrick, Hitchcock, and Akira Kurosawa didn't have to write the script like this. Who does Chen Kaige think he is? Shakespeare?
The weakness of the script is enough to ruin everything, and no amount of good actors or good sets can make up for it. Director Chen Da has suffered once in "Assassination Qin", and he still doesn't understand it.
Not to mention anything else, the stunts are quite poor, the authenticity of the CG is really uncomplimentable, and the Xiantao studio is still making up with the situation. Not far.
