East and West gay (heterosexual?) stories in a Chinese context

Advantages:
1. Adapted from a true story
2. The plot is special and unexpected (of course, everyone knows that Zunlong is a man at first glance, but the plot and ending are still surprising)
3. Zunlong's reverse performance is very good !
4. The Chinese pictures are more realistic.
Disadvantages :
1. I don't know how Zunlong deceived people. How could he lie about having children? ...I don't know how this plot was made up. Also, why do you still want to be a "player" when you speak French/English so well?
2. Slight procrastination. There are some lens bedding that is not really necessary

6/10. Cronenberg failed to create the kind of superficial warmth that actually requires a lot of deep dramatic tension. The oriental setting is as simple and textureless as the second-hand curtain. The foreshadowing is there, but it is more hidden, such as Zunlong's sentence "Men know how women should react". The ending may be the biggest highlight. In the passionate fantasy, pretending to commit suicide, it is strange that it is not reminiscent of "Farewell My Concubine".

Only sigh. Determining whether to love or not love will only lead to more heartbreak. Different from the shocking absurdity of the prototype, this is a deeply affectionate tragedy. In the end, isn't that the case with human love? It's a mirror image, deceiving oneself, and wanting to love the phantom in his heart, but he doesn't know anything about the real person. Some loves are destined not to end well since the day they met.

M. Butterfly quotes

  • Song Liling: Comrade! Why in Beijing opera are woman's roles traditionally played by men?

Comrade Chin: I don't know. Most probably a remnant of the reactionary and patriarchal social structure.

Song Liling: No. It's because only a man knows how a woman is supposed to act.

  • Song Liling: The days I spent with you were the only days I ever truly existed.
