"you made it"

The stepmother did a good job, which could have been the most beneficial move for her to distance herself from the child. It's the only thing the two have in common. Would have been able to bake cakes with him when he was little and teach him all kinds of delicious dishes. But it was only after the old man returned to the west that he thought of doing this. Too late.

What could have been used to draw in mutual relations was used as a bargaining chip for hostility. Although it was difficult for a child to accept a stepmother at first, the stepmother did not seem to have put in much effort and thought to understand the child and break through the barriers in his heart.

If she looks a little farther and sees that the old man and the child are the closest people to her, and that the old man will let go one day, where will the idleness and struggle come from? Live happily with the old man in the countryside, and teach his son who loves to cook all kinds of delicious food together, and the final outcome will not be like this.

So the child said to her when she ran away: "you made it" and I mostly agreed.
