The short review has turned into a movie review...

I finished the book in the morning, and when I saw the end, I was thinking, did Hailian go to London at the end, to go to the appointment that spanned 20 years, and go to MARKS&CO to see her friends. Is the bookstore still there? After watching a movie in the afternoon, Hailian once asked her friend who happened to go to London to visit the bookstore. I thought eagerly and naively, could Hailian borrow the travel expenses of US$359 and go to London first? I wish they could get together while those lovely people in the bookstore were still around. When finally, Hailian finally set foot on the land of London and came to the bookstore, there were people and people, and there was no one here. I don't know if she has a chance to meet Frank's wife and daughter. There is not so much consummation, and regret not seen is also a beautiful thought.

When I opened the Internet and searched the current situation of this bookstore, I saw that it had changed from a bookstore to a record store, to a bar, and to a fast food restaurant. This story doesn't change. I haven't been to London yet, and when I go there in the future, I have one more thought to go to 84 Charing Street.

  • Frank P. Doel: [reading "He wishes for the Cloths of Heaven" by William Butler Yeats] "Had I the heavens' embroidered cloths, Enwrought with golden and silver light, The blue and the dim and the dark cloths, Of night and light and the half light, I would spread the cloths under your feet: But I, being poor, have only my dreams; I have spread my dreams under your feet; Tread softly because you tread on my dreams."

  • Helene Hanff: Somebody gave me this book for Christmas. It's "A Great Modern Library" book. Ever seen one of those? It's less attractively bound than the "Proceedings of the New York State Assembly" and it weighs more. It was a given to me by a gent who knows I'm fond of John Donne. The title of this book is: "The Complete Poetry and Selected Prose of John Donne *and* the Complete Poetry of William Blake"? The question mark is mine. Will you please tell me what those two boys have in common except - they were both English and they both wrote.
