Hans's criticism at the end

Hannah’s friend Hans criticized her for arrogant and self-righteous criticizing Jews from an elite perspective after the speech. Her condescending attitude is what makes many people feel unhappy. Hans’s criticism is my biggest challenge to Hannah, even though she herself didn’t realize it at the end.

"People don't think." This accusation is too elitist and self-righteous.

Until now, the person who made such remarks is probably classified as a well-known person who deserves to be scolded.

Although I also appreciate the high demands of elites on themselves, I am skeptical of the practice of delimiting elites and civilians.

The book is like its own. Her argument in "Human Condition" reveals the same elitist temperament.

Ironically, the opposite of the non-thinking common people—the philosopher Heidegger—is also inevitably involved in the Nazi conspiracy. Thinking or not thinking, victimization and victimization, both are powerless.

How would Arendt respond to this?

Hannah Arendt quotes

  • Heinrich Blücher: Dearest. Don't cry.

Hannah Arendt: I spoke to the doctor. He said you only have a fifty percent chance.

Heinrich Blücher: Don't forget the other fifty percent.

  • Hans Jonas: But Eichmann is a monster. And when I say monster, I don't mean Satan. You don't need to be smart or powerful to behave like a monster.

Hannah Arendt: You're being too simplistic. What's new about the Eichmann phenomenon is that there are so many just like him. He's a terrifyingly normal human being.
