The following is just a brief report, but from the documentary we know that this is the result of the efforts of many people, and we also know why these two regions remain.
Thursday, October 24 is World Polio Day, when the World Health Organization announced the eradication of poliovirus type 3 worldwide.
Poliovirus is the cause of polio, and there are three types of this virus (types 1, 2, 3). Type 2 virus was already eradicated in 2015, the last case of type 3 virus appeared in northern Nigeria in 2012, and no new cases have been detected since then and it can be considered eradicated.
Currently, only the first virus remains in Afghanistan and Pakistan, with 94 cases reported this year. Once the virus is eliminated in these two countries, humanity will be completely free of polio. This will be the second infectious disease eliminated by humans after smallpox. --- Excerpt from Open Source Magazine
