At the height of the Cold War in 1979, Gaunt (David Kross) and Peter (Friedrich Mücke) who were in East Germany spent more than two years planning for freedom in pursuit of freedom. They had a "Great Escape": they used limited resources to build a huge hot air balloon, and planned to use it to carry their families to West Germany. Unexpectedly, just as it was about to cross the border, the hot air balloon crashed unexpectedly, attracting an overwhelming investigation by the East German secret police.
