Monty Python and the Holy Grail (Monty Python and the Holy Grail) 1975 A

Monty Python and the Holy Grail 1975 B

This movie has been stored on the computer for nearly three years. If it weren't for watching the IMDB250 series, I don't know how long it will be buried by me. I watched this film with a smile. I can't say that my stomach hurts when I laughed. It's almost the same. This film gave me quite a surprise, if I had watched it early, it would be great.

As usual, I still have to tell the plot, but the plot of this movie makes me wonder where to start. Say it has a plot, but the plot is incomplete: the King of England and his knights of the round table, according to God's instructions to find the Holy Grail. The film describes the story that happened in the process of searching for the Holy Grail, of course, I met a giant python in the process of searching. But this movie has no ending! Understand, do you know what no ending is? It's the movie being filmed, it's gone! What's missing? There is nothing, and the picture is completely dark! There are no subtitles, "none" in the true sense! If it is said that it has no plot, it is also incorrect. The film has been telling the story in a regular manner for nearly 90 minutes, except for the scenes of the British police.

Therefore, this movie is the originator of "Wu Li Tau" and the most "Wu Li Tau". I have never seen a movie that spoofs to such a degree. I omitted the ending of the movie and served it! Of course, the spoof of the film still appears in most of the pictures in the film. The scene at the beginning of the film is hilarious. The King of England who uses coconut shells as sound effects without horses meets a guard who is familiar with various scientific knowledge and has a dialogue about the physics of coconuts and swallows! The scene at the beginning of the story just spit out me, it was so funny. The following scenes also made people laugh, such as villagers talking about politics and democracy, black warriors with their limbs chopped off, and so on. In the first ten minutes of the movie, it subverted all the images of the "king" movie in our minds. The hilarious skill is extraordinary, and it is really beautiful.

I am not particularly familiar with British history and their various legends, but I can guess that this film is a ridicule and spoof of all the ancient parts of British culture. The recruitment of the round table warriors, the treasure hunts of the various jazz, the encounters outside the French castle, the legend of crossing the "bridge of death", and the attack of the giant python, etc., these aspects are probably in British history or their culture. Well documented. In addition, the film's director also adopted the method of "breaking the fourth wall". First, let the knight kill the old man who explained the story, and then at the end of the film, let the police arrest the entire crew, even the end is omitted, admiring death. Me. In short, to break the inherent image of these people or things in people's minds and to subvert the audience's thinking. There is nothing to do, but to do more. This is the main purpose of this film!

From the above aspect, the director of the film has achieved this theme to the extreme. The giant python was drawn by an animator; in order to save the cost of filming, the horse riding under the hip was replaced with coconut shells; according to the characters in the play, even the castle is fake, it is a model made for the film; of course, There are also chaotic subtitles at the beginning and pitch black at the end, and even the steps of subtitle production are omitted! The directors only used a few actors, a small amount of props, and spent very little money to shoot this movie that wanted nothing! I can even comment that I have never watched such a shoddy movie, and it is not as well-made as the domestic TV series of the 1990s. At this point, I am very confused. Is this setting intentional by the director, or is the producer really so poor? I have no way of knowing.

Regarding the performance of the actors, I really have nothing to say. First of all, their costumes cover most of the actors’ faces. I don’t know how the actors’ looks are. Secondly, every one of the actors in the movie is very dirty. It seems that they often don’t wash their faces. I can't distinguish them. Therefore, you can't even see the expressions of the actors, so what kind of acting are you talking about? Furthermore, such a spoofed "nonsensical" movie focuses on the plot, and the performance of the actors is not too outstanding.

In short, the film is spoof to the extreme, and it is also to the extreme. But it was such a "nonsensical" movie that made me laugh more than 40 years later. It was still able to be seen by me after more than 40 years. It also entered IMDB250 and ranked 73rd, which is really amazing. If you miss such a good movie, it will be a lifetime regret.

  • King Arthur: Old woman!

    Dennis: Man.

King Arthur: Man, sorry. What knight lives in that castle over there?

    Dennis: I'm 37.

    King Arthur: What?

    Dennis: I'm 37. I'm not old.

King Arthur: Well I can't just call you "man".

Dennis: Well you could say "Dennis".

King Arthur: I didn't know you were called Dennis.

Dennis: Well you didn't bother to find out, did you?

King Arthur: I did say sorry about the "old woman", but from behind you looked...

Dennis: What I object to is you automatically treat me like an inferior.

King Arthur: Well, I am king.

Dennis: Oh, king eh? Very nice. And how'd you get that, eh? By exploiting the workers. By hanging on to outdated imperialist dogma which perpetuates the economic and social differences in our society.
