A polite and imposing police officer killed his mistress because of jealousy and insult. He investigated the case casually, and later destroyed the evidence because of his guilty conscience. Since humanity has not been completely wiped out, he confessed the crime in front of strong witnesses. However, all colleagues and officials prevented him from confessing guilt for their own benefit and "perceived persuasively." Under the enlightenment and education of everyone, he finally admitted his "innocence" and proved that he is an "unsuspected citizen."
This is a famous Italian political film in the 1970s. It attacked the fascist style of politics and the crime and corruption inside the police station. The technique was pungent but calm, and the plot was ups and downs. The performance of the hero was even more unforgettable. The film won the Special Jury Prize at the Cannes International Film Festival in 1970 and the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film.
