The death of a civil servant

"You don't understand civil servants. They never do things that are harmful to their superiors, no matter what happens."

Hetian, deputy head of the Land Development Bureau. A cautious and cowardly personality, he devoted most of his life to the officialdom. When he said these words, he might not have thought that he was not far from real death.

As a story of collusion between officials and businessmen, there are always all kinds of characters in every link. If the relationship between government and business or cooperation or struggle is explained by game theory, then the Land Bureau is the decision maker, Dalong Construction is the rebel, and our Hetian section chief is at best the player in the game, or one of them. He does not have any qualifications to change the balance between the two sides of the game. He can only be kicked between the director and the president like a ball. He sold the taxpayers' hard-earned money against his own conscience, only "so little money" and a moment of peace in exchange. But the trouble finally found him.

The corruption case was revealed, and the slip came to the door, what should I do? The only way to go is "shut up obediently". He was rescued by attempting to commit suicide for a more ambitious revenge plan. As a person who has already died, he has seen with his own eyes how his former boss participated in his funeral and how excited he was to get rid of his thorny eye. He was not angry, because everything he did was the duty of a civil servant. In his eyes, only his wife and daughter were extremely grief-stricken, as well as the torment of being unable to return home.

The video is here, and it is the culmination in my heart.

Death is not painful. What is painful is that others think that they are dead but can't justify it. At that moment, how much he wanted to jump out of the car and rush towards his family, but it was impossible because he was already "dead". He is a civil servant and always reminds himself that he can't do things that harm his superiors, even if they all want to die. His face was distorted, it was an expression of anger, sadness, and helplessness intertwined, but he couldn't do anything, and finally collapsed on the seat.

Like the English title, the bad sleep well. The wicked finally fell asleep at ease, and the directors and presidents suppressed the crisis. Hotan, died again, this time, he really died.

This is the best Kurosawa movie in my mind, not one of them.

    The best old black modern movie I've seen so far. The first two-thirds of the drama is still very obvious, and it is also possible to replace the president and general manager with a famous city lord;

Akira Kurosawa, both the text and the images, deeply shocked me. With the help of Shakespeare's "Hamlet", the text tells a story of anti-corruption. The film deeply shapes a group of characters, no matter good or bad, with the deepening of the film's plot, the audience gradually becomes the last real Koichi Nishi, feeling the film final despair. The image is even more powerful, the lighting highlights the psychology of the characters, the composition shows the relationship between the characters, and the scene scheduling is Kurosawa Akira's strength, not to mention, a very powerful movie.

The Bad Sleep Well quotes

  • Assistant-to-the-Chief Wada: I met the young lady twice while planning the wedding. She's a genuinely sweet person. When I think of her agony, I wish a peaceful resolution were possible.

Itakura: Unfortunately there just isn't any way. That man's evil! If we hesitate, we're finished.

  • Administrative Officer Moriyama: [imprisoned inside a locked room] Cut the crap! You've starved me for two whole days!

Koichi Nishi: Would you like to eat?

    Administrative Officer Moriyama: Of course!

Koichi Nishi: We haven't got much to offer. You like ham and eggs on toast?

    Administrative Officer Moriyama: Anything!

Koichi Nishi: [opening up the locked door and showing him the pan of food] Ham and eggs on toast will run you 15 million.

    Administrative Officer Moriyama: 15 million?

Koichi Nishi: Surely you're not shocked! 'Always get a kickback!' That's your policy, isn't it?
