The hero of yesterday

I have heard of Wu Yusen a long time ago, heard of his golden partner with Fa Ge, heard of his police films and violent aesthetics, but have not been interested in them, and even ignorantly think that police films are the fast food culture in movies. But I now know that I was wrong. The police film is just a carrier, and the violent aesthetics is just a way. At its core, Tao Wu's thought is much deeper. Especially about human nature, about love and money, about life’s helplessness, and about complicated right and wrong. He never liked the story of the police catching bad guys and the police must win. He liked the reckless heroes, both righteous and evil, insisting on the principles of his heart, and finally dying tragically.
The film is actually cruel and bloody, from the plot to the screen. Eyes are full of endless bullets, endless blood, endless people, explosions of fire and painful groans everywhere, there is a sense of despair that there is no way out.
In an abnormal age, an abnormal society, for a group of abnormal people, there seems to be no axiom. Even the illusion of tomorrow is extravagant and remote. The only thing that can save them is the spontaneous justice in their hearts. And kindness. Like a single spark in the wilderness, can it start a prairie fire?
For money, you can betray your brothers, you can kill innocent people indiscriminately, and even pay the price of your life. A Rong, A B, and A Hui each have their own shortcomings and weaknesses, and it seems that only A Le is the real man who stands up and down. They gave their most precious things for something that they couldn't grasp at all.
Perhaps it is necessary to use this bloody way, with this extremely distorted personality and destiny, to arouse people's adherence to justice, family affection, love and friendship. I started to like Wu Yusen, because of his almost extreme intentions and methods, I don't go to hell, whoever goes to hell. He is not just an action film director. Unfortunately, his time has passed. The audience now no longer likes such a river and lake, such a hero. Besides, Fa Ge is already old, can the boys born in the 1980s be able to act like that heroic character.

Bullet in the Head quotes

  • Ben: Mr Leong. I think think you're mistaken. When we were in Hong Kong we admired Miss Yen. We like listening to her sing. We were all staring at her just now, as we were wondering... wondering why she had changed so much. She's not pretty any more.

    Paul: Ah Bee!

Ben: She's lost her innocence. She's not happy any more. I wonder who was responsible for that?

Y.S. Leong: You're criticizing me? Not many people would speak to me like that. Young man, you've got balls. Bring me wine!

  • Ben: You're pointing a gun on a good friend you've known for more than a decade!
