Young people in metropolis

Metropolitan-1990 After

watching all kinds of people in Taiwan taken by Yang Dechang, you can see the metropolis of New York.
I originally thought this was a movie about New Yorkers, perhaps similar to the "Independence Age", but I didn't expect it to be closer to "Reality Bites".

A group of self-righteous young people keep talking about our generation and their generation.
A likes B, B likes C, D likes A, C likes E, F hates E, G also likes E...
The emotional way and life of young people can be said to be simple but also complicated.
The simple thing is that they are young, frank, and open; the complicated thing is that they think they are well-versed in the world and they are full of poetry and books.
They attend parties, dances, and play games, and ask embarrassing questions in the game to make people answer sincerely.

Everyone in the metropolis is "basically a good person." In the film, Celina and Rick, the two emotional philanderers, use almost the same expressions "basically a good person" and "basically a nice guy"-this evaluation is agreeable-in the metropolis, In the emotional world, there is really no right or wrong. They are not focused on emotions, but they did not kill or arson, corruption or fraud, they just hurt other people emotionally-such things are the most common things in metropolis or in emotional life.
Few people in metropolises can live the life they expect. What kind of life do we expect to live? Do you go to parties and dances every day? Living by the title of your parents? Talking young people, that virtue really teaches us hope for the future of society!
Most people in metropolises do not completely agree with anyone or anything.
Metropolitan people, in groups but insist on independence, but they have never really created social wealth.

Dialogue, dialogue, and a lot of dialogue, very well written.
Although they didn't know any actors, these young people also acted quite well.

Overall, this film is better than the "Reality Bites" that I like very much.

If Rohmer was not filming in the French countryside, but in Park Ave in Manhattan, it would probably be the same feeling, less chaotic love between children, and more cynical and even anxious Gu Ying self-pity. The script is really good, everyone in the small circle is very interesting and interesting, and the male characters are even more brilliant. PS, "The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie" appeared, hahaha.

I prefer the translation of "The Metropolis": A flock of chicks masters the laws of survival in a metropolis by rehearsing bourgeois socialization. The exaggeration and pretense full of words are the identity of the chicks to themselves.

Metropolitan quotes

  • Nick Smith: You're opposed to these parties on principle.

    Tom Townsend: Yes.

Nick Smith: Exactly what principle is that?

    Tom Townsend: Well...

Nick Smith: The principle that one shouldn't be out at night eating hors d'oeuvres when one could be home worrying about the less fortunate.

    Tom Townsend: Pretty much, yes.

Nick Smith: Has it ever occurred to you that you are the less fortunate?

  • Nick Smith: I'm not sure if you realize this, but these girls are at a very vulnerable point in their lives. All of this is much more emotional and difficult for them than it is for us. They're on display. They have to call the guys up and invite them as escorts. And preppy girls mature socially much later than others do.
