The enemy of youth

The film tells a story of youthful growth with sensitive tones, beautiful photography and a particularly exciting soundtrack.

Youth is the process from pupa to butterfly, and its changes are intense enough to cause physical and mental pain, confusion, loneliness and indulgence. Many people have fallen because of this; many more people, deep in their hearts, have not gotten out of their innate shell, but have the appearance of a butterfly, ignorant of flying. Only a few people, brave, tenacious, and talented, can completely evolve and spread their wings beautifully and freely in a short period of time.

Hallam, the protagonist of the film, is undoubtedly one of the few people.

His youth is more painful than ordinary people. And the mother's suicide brought the hatred of being abandoned to Hallam. While suffering from these two feelings, he couldn't find the object to talk to and the shoulder to share. His father was tired of the war with his mother, and he had found comfort in his current stepmother before his mother died. Faced with these, my sister chose to escape. But Hallam didn't go to college. He was trapped in the tree house in pain and confusion. He climbed the roofs one by one, peering into the life of the family, looking for answers. The answer to the death of the mother and the answer to the cruel life.

The relationship between Hallam and his stepmother seems incomprehensible, but in fact it is just a surrender under the impulse of youth, and the other is a hatred of iron and steel who hopes that the other party will mature as soon as possible. Although this seems difficult to understand in our culture, it is really not that important.

The adult of the body does not bring about the maturity of the soul, so Hallam, who can't find the answer, will go wandering and continue to look for it. He met Kate who looked exactly like his mother. Kate herself is a person who is ignorant of flying with a shell. Even if she is much older than Hallam, she is still confused and lonely. With Kate, Hallam found a youthful playmate who comforted each other, and also found the release of love and hatred for her mother-crying in front of Kate wearing her mother's dress, snuggling next to her and falling asleep. Wake up sweetly. Kate gave him a chance to make a close with his mother.

The final test came, and the stepmother once again questioned his heart, and once again urged him to take on the responsibility of life and the responsibility to his father. His last waywardness as a child was to throw his stepmother into the water, completely stifling and burying what he thought was the cause of the tragedy.

Finally, his mature mind recovered his mistake.

Relying on his father to cry means that he has been able to face the cruelty and imperfections of life. Compromise with life and no longer have childish fantasies and obsessions.

A butterfly flew up quietly.

The whole movie gives the impression of talent. Whether it's photography, soundtrack, or the performance of the protagonist Jamie Bell. He portrayed the expressions of the youthful innocent soul: gloom, happiness, desire and pain. He made this difficult-to-express story full and three-dimensional, and became the soul of the film.

Except for "Caesar", the two women looked familiar, but I checked IMDB but couldn't find the answer. Is it possible that I am now in the eyes of half-baked eyes that look like everyone else? = =!

Borrowed name:

This movie reminds me of a book I read a few years ago—A Yi’s "Enemies of Youth". It was the first Chinese book I saw that looked directly at the issue of youth and shared personal responsibility. I thought at the time that this book must be kept for my next generation to read. Don't let them be as confused as I was back then.

Hallam Foe quotes

  • Raymond: I fucking hate this job, but it's my job. D'ya understand?

    Hallam Foe: [nods]

Raymond: I killed a man once. Smashed his skull on a pier. Just so ya know.

  • Kate Breck: I'm a real live human being Hallam. Sometimes I want sweet; sometimes I want sour. Sometimes I don't know what I want. My shit stinks. I'm going to die someday. If I look like your mother, it's just a coincidence. Am I telling you anything you don't already know?

Hallam Foe: Is there anything I can do to make it up to you?

Kate Breck: [pensively and with regret] Probably not.
