Early "motion capture"

From the plot point of view, this is just a simple magic cartoon. However, when I watched it, I was surprised that the movements of the people depicted in this film are so real. Even the details such as stumbling on the ice and the swinging of the necklace on the neck when running are almost the same. I guessed at the time whether this was painted after a real person.

After looking at the tidbits, I found out that this is really a picture of a real person. When filming this cartoon, we first performed it with a real person and shot it with a video camera. Then the film was developed into a photo, and the artist copied the photo on the paper.

Nowadays, 3D animation is very popular. A technique called "motion capture" is to put many small dots on the human body, and then do some actions. After the computer captures the movement trajectory of these dots, it can be used for the characters in the animation. Create a form that is closer to the action of a real person, and can solve difficult problems such as simulating the sense of gravity. For example, "Polar Express" is a typical representative of using this technology.

It now appears that "Dynamic Capture" is also used in "Ice Fire God and Demon", and it is one of the earliest "motion capture".

Fire and Ice quotes

  • Teegra: No, Larn! No, it's over, don't you see? We have to start over.

  • Tutor: All matter in our world is from the natural bases... which are earth, air, fire and water; the four elements from which all things are created.

Teegra: How can you talk about elements when the war draws nearer to us ever hour?

Tutor: Princess Teegra, we all have our duty. Your father's duty is to be king and lead. Your brother's duty is to soldier. Your duty is to learn.

Teegra: You mean my duty is to stay shut up... while all the men do the fighting and share all the glory. Well we think that stinks. Don't we, Shaitan?
