The third season of the German drama "Dark" was updated as scheduled on June 27, 2020, which is the day of "End of the World" in the play.
The 33-year cycle time shuttle of the first two seasons may have confused some viewers. This season, a new parallel world setting has been added. Two worlds, two sets of time travellers, are even more complicated.
Fortunately, the German-style is as rigorous as it always has. The story has nine turns and a thousand times, but it can still form a perfect closed loop.
In fact, watch the complete episode and then look back. Many plots have already been mapped through "semiology" in the previous two seasons, which can be described as grass snakes and gray lines, which are thousands of miles away.
The most typical is undoubtedly the "Mobius Ring" that is ubiquitous in the play.
This graphic appeared in the physics book in season one, and on the "Any Door in Winden Cave" and "Floor" in the third season of World B.
The Mobius ring is a figure discovered by the German mathematician Mobius .
Its approximate shape is to twist a piece of paper 180° and glue the two ends together. Suppose a bug climbs along the strip of paper, so its walking path will not have to cross any edge.
This graphic is complete, which means that to break the existing loop, you need to find the intersection of glue. This is also the core contradiction that time travellers travel between the two worlds in the entire third season to resolve in different eras.
Here, there is a detail worth paying attention to.
Time travellers travel between World A and World B. They know their destination, but the viewer needs visual signals to distinguish between the two worlds.
If you look closely, the two worlds are mirror images in the image expression , the position of the sofa, the direction of the tree crooked, and the scars on the face.
Another important hint that is easy to overlook is the red line that appeared in the first season, which is the " Ariadnefaden " (Ariadnefaden). This allusion is derived from Greek mythology, and there are ways to solve problems and clues in common sayings.
Do you remember the drama played by Marta ? She plays the story of Ariadne's line.
According to legend, in the maze on Crete, there is a monster with a bull's head, which eats young boys and girls. The hero Theseus pre-enters the maze to slaughter the monsters. Ariadne, a girl who is obsessed with him, gave him a red line to help him identify the road in the maze and avoid losing.
This hint is obvious.
In both worlds, it is found that the source of the anomaly is the missing child. And the intricate timeline, the relationship between the characters is like a maze. In the first two seasons, Marta, who has always been relatively background-board, is actually the line of Ariadne that led the incident.
The painting that appeared in Adam's office is called The Fall of the Damned , and its author is Dutch painter Rubens . It is now in the collection of the Old Art Gallery in Munich.
The painting shows the story of the archangel Michael driving the angels who rebelled against God into hell.
At the bottom of the screen, black winged monsters are devouring sinners. The sinner here refers to a person who has committed the seven deadly sins (arrogance, jealousy, rage, laziness, greed, gluttony, and lust).
There is an interesting history about this painting.
It was attacked by sulfuric acid in 1959. The criminal is a weird man who claims to be a physicist.
Play watchmaker Tan Bauhaus set with reference to the criminals.
In fact, in the play, it was Tanhaus's time machine research project that caused this "ultimate German orthopedics" disorder. The "time travellers" Jonas and Martha (Adam and Eve) and their descendants are the products of confusion, and they are "beings" that need to be corrected and shouldn't exist.
In an official poster, Jonas and Martha are combined into the painting. Please pay attention to where they are.
The elderly Jonas (Adam) was disfigured, which is a hint of the "sulphuric acid" incident that occurred in 1959. Because his position was splashed, Martha (Eve) was not.
Correspondingly, famous paintings are also hung in Eve's office. German Renaissance painter Lucas Cranach the Elder (Lucasa Cranacha) works , "Adam and Eve" .
Post-production playfully placed the letter "V" in Eve's private parts. The letter "V" has a special meaning, as can be seen from the posters of the first season.
The poster clearly shows a combination of positive "V" and inverted "V". That is, "compasses" and "squares", which are the symbols of Freemasonry .
Freemasonry, also known as "Free Masons Association", is an organization established in the Middle Ages with the opportunity of building churches. Its logo "compass and square" represents the only technology that can exist legally in that ignorant era.
There are also scenes of building churches in the play.
At the same time, the graphic "genitalia" formed by these two measuring instruments has a strong hint of "interaction" and "pregnancy".
Compared with "Adam and Eve", Chinese audiences should be more familiar with "Fuxi and Nüwa" in the murals in the tomb of Mawangdui. What they hold in their hands are compasses (rules) and squares (rules), and they cannot form a square without rules. And this rule is "mating" and "coincidence", which is the reconciliation of yin and yang, and "creation of man" in the literal sense.
So, the story of Adam and Eve and their descendants. In fact, it was revealed to you in the first season!
An important token of love in the play, St. Christopher ’s carrying Jesus crossing the river silver coin pendant , this is a traditional amulet that is often used to protect travelers.
In the legendary story, Christopher crossed the river with the holy infant. After arriving on the opposite bank, the holy infant said to him, "What you have just carried, not only the entire universe, but also the master who created the universe is also on your shoulders."
Every time traveler is burdened with a heavy mission and is a vital part of the big cycle. Most of them think they can save the world, but in fact, most of the time, this is just an unattainable dream.
The setting in the play, whenever the end of the world comes, there will be a pause of a few seconds. At this time , a picture similar to Michelangelo ’s masterpiece "Genesis" will appear , suggesting that the end of the world is also the opening of a new world.
Key figure Noah tattoo pattern from the Emerald Tablet (Emerald tablet, also known as Thoth slate), is derived from the Atlantis and the mysterious book of ancient Egypt, is considered the source of Western alchemy.
Cuiyulu is divided into thirteen chapters, of which three chapters mention time and space, but very few people can decipher it.
If you carefully compare the tattoos of Cuiyulu and Noah, you will find that the tattoo has an extra triangle pattern at the bottom of the whole picture. This pattern is called a Celtic triangle .
This triangle has complicated meanings in Celtic culture, and may represent the three-phase goddess, life, death, and rebirth. It could also be Odin, the king of the gods. Of course, this is a coherent graph and has the meaning of repetition.
In Christianity, it is considered a symbol of the trinity of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
In the play, it is also carved on the stone gate of the cave, representing a 33-year cycle and the relationship between 2019, 1986, and 1953.
Of course you can understand it as other.
For example, in the play Claudia explained that "this world is not only black and white, it is three-dimensional." So there is the original world besides the A world and the B world.
The yellow raincoat that runs through the three seasons has always been worn by Jonas (Adam) in World A. In the B world, it is Martha (Eve) wearing it.
The color of this dress matches the color of the barrel containing nuclear waste. In the setting, it was the God factor stored in the barrel that caused the destruction of the two worlds.
Beginning in 2017, for three seasons, we followed this little yellow raincoat through countless end of the world, parting life and death.
In fact, the key to solving everything is always choice.
It's just not easy to make this choice.
As Eve in the play said: "The mistake of our thinking is that we all believe that we are an independent entity, a self. We are neighbors with countless other selves. In fact, we are all one of an infinite whole. Small part."
Any choice we make is not only about ourselves, but "moves the whole body", out of interest, out of selfish desire, or attachment to relatives. Few people can never regret after “choosing”.
It can be said that we followed "Dark" and experienced a brain-burning game that travels through time and space, and at the same time witnessed the struggle of human nature. It's Ye Fei Ye, they all fall into the dust with the correction of the disorder.
All of this fits well with Schopenhauer's famous saying in the play: people can do what they want, but they cannot decide what they want.
