I really like this movie.
The war films made by Datuao are of its own kind. Although the performance and technology are not as mature as Mei's, they are not as streamlined as Mei's.
The narrative is very rare in adopting a flat perspective-it is really flat, which is not like many war movies at all. It doesn’t care about who is right and who is wrong in this war, and it never wastes time reflecting on the cruelty of war. If you fight, you will fight, and if you die, you will die. No surging, no heroism, no sadness, no regrets, and you will hear in the end. For those young people who no longer called out when they called their names, most of them were more handsome than the actors in the guitar music that was not sad, and the smiles of real people on the photos.
If there is a grudge in Datuao, it will be reported. Datuao rarely grieves. Datuao doesn’t mind stating “both sides claim victory”. Compared with victories everywhere, it has to condemn and reflect on the beauty. Datuao has a kind of beauty. A different kind of heroic style who doesn't cry pain after the scar is gone.
This film is dedicated to everyone who died in the Battle of Longtan-1966.8.18.
